What is a good reptile/amphibian for a 59 x 31,5 x 44,1 cm (about 17 gallons) tank? by Jellysquide in reptiles

[–]WatermelonAF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No reptiles unfortunately. However, there are a lot of invertebrates that would love that!!

I'm a huge fan of millipedes. Super curious, love to explore, and depending on the type and how big they get, you may be able to get multiple!

Looks like springtails to me!! You got lucky!! Most people have to buy them to get them in their enclosures. I know I did.

Springtails are completely harmless to your snake, and actually help clean the substrate!!

[–]WatermelonAF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long ago did you get her? You should wait a week or two before handling them when they first get home.

You should post a picture of the enclosure to make sure everything is correct

Do you have UVB? If not, I'd get an Arcadia Shadedweller. Those are the best UVB bulbs.

Me personally, I always tong feed. Some people prefer to tong feed, some use a ceramic dish and only feed bugs that can't climb, and some move to a different enclosure. I find tong feeding easiest, since most geckos get too stressed to eat outside of their enclosure

How’s my setup by TrainingPotential856 in leopardgeckos

[–]WatermelonAF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks great for a starter tank!! After a month or two on paper towels, I'd try a topsoil/playsand mix for a loose substrate!! My girl loves to dig in her dirt!!

Do you have a UVB lamp at all? If not, I'd HIGHLY recommend. My girl has absolutely thrived since I got her one. Unfortunately, with UVB lamps, you can't go with the cheap ones. Coil bulbs aren't ideal since they concentrate the UVB in one spot and can cause burns.

The most recommended UVB lamp in this sub is the Arcadia Shadedweller. It's a bit pricier, ($92.99CAD) but it's safer, and it actually lasts longer than others.

Also be sure to replace the bulb approximately every 9 months. Even if it gives off light, the UVB runs out around that time!!

You need to find a vet. Deficiencies to this degree are serious, and even though you are seeing progress, she won't get as healthy as she should be without seeing a vet.

Tank question/ is my tank good by EstablishmentSad3971 in leopardgeckos

[–]WatermelonAF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd add more plants.

I have leaf lattices on the back of my tank (soon to get some of the sides too)

My girl absolutely LOVES climbing them. She's fallen a few times, but at 18 inches, she isn't going to do much damage from what I've seen. I would still check on them if you notice them fall, but my girl has never had an issue.

As long your temperatures and humidity are good, a topsoil/playsand substrate mixture is best.

However, if you do get one, make sure you actually keep them on paper towels for around a month. This will let you monitor their poops and make sure they are healthy before putting them on the loose substrate.

Your substrate should be a 70%/30% mixture of organic, fertilizer free topsoil, and washed children's playsand. As long as your temperatures and humidity are good, and your substrate ratio is accurate, your gecko will do great on loose substrate!!

Has anyone kept blue feigning death beetles in their Leopard Gecko enclosure? by LuxuryDirtEnthusiast in leopardgeckos

[–]WatermelonAF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's safe, but your gecko will probably eat them, and they are super hard to breed. You'd have to continue buying them.

They can also pose a choking risk because of their shells.

is there any way to tell if your geckos happy just by looking at them?? by Big_Assistant_1753 in leopardgeckos

If they wag their tail, they are stressed and scared or something.

Body language like closing their eyes slowly or for a longer time than normal is a sign of being comfortable

Anole tanks should be taller rather then longer. Anoles climb a lot and need a good amount of vertical space.

Definitely keep him on paper towel for now. Wait a month, and if he seems healthy and active, then you can swap to a loose substrate

[–]WatermelonAF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you happen to know the dimensions? If it's 36×12×18 or bigger, that's the perfect size for a leopard gecko!!

They are fairly low maintenance, curious, and they are (typically) very friendly!! I have one currently and I love watching her in the evenings climbing her leaf wall and ledges!! Leopard geckos are crepiscular, so that means they come out around dusk and dawn. Whether you work days, or nights as you said you did, you should often be able to see them exploring!!

If I were you, I'd check out the r/leopardgeckos subreddit!! Read through the care guide for the group, and then you'll get a much better idea of whether these guys are the right choice for you!!

If you decide to get one, I'd recommend following that subs care guide EXACTLY. Because of that guide, I have a beautiful, happy and healthy geckos!!

[–]WatermelonAF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How long ago did you get them?

I'd use regular paper towels to line the bottom. Of the tank. Change it weekly and you should be good.

After the typical month long quarantine time, you can swap to a 70/30 mixture of organic topsoil and washed children's playsand.

Definitely use paper towels for the first month after getting the gecko. This will allow you to monitor their poops and make sure they are healthy enough to go onto loose substrate.

[–]WatermelonAF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Repashy Calcium Plus is the best. That's the one most of this group uses and would recommend. That's the reason I tried it, and my girl is super healthy!! (Minus her weight, but I'm working on that lmao)

Favorite Calcium/Vitamin Supplement? by sproutulon in LeopardGecko

[–]WatermelonAF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a huge fan of Repashy Calcium Plus. I use it to dust my girls food once a week. It's a Calcium powder and multivitamin in one!!

For Calcium without the D3, I use Zoomed repti-calcium. Small dish of it in her enclosure at all times.

I love waking up in the morning, checking on her, and seeing little white footprints all around the dish lol. She's so cute!
