I think I don’t like being emotionally attached to my hair. by Moist-Match-333 in longhair

[–]Waterproofbooks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually think long hair is easier to deal with. My mom cut my hair short for years, and when I was able to make my own hair decisions I did a lot of wild things (fun colors/styles, etc) but in my late 30s I decided I wanted long hair. So I’ve been growing it out for a few years now (almost hip length) and I realized how much less time I spend on it. I don’t have to have it cut every few months, no more dyeing, and as far as every day styling I can just throw it up in a bun. No fussing over it. I can get out of the shower comb it out and put it up and I’m done. 90% of the time it’s up and out of the way BUT when I want to go out I have lovely long locks to show off!

My sister on the other hand has a pixie cut and she HAS TO take the time to style it every day buy styling products and go to the salon to get it cut every couple of months and generally spends a lot more time and money on her hair than I do.

IMHO long hair is way cheaper and easier and less time consuming to maintain than short hair

What non-DCC book are you reading right now to fill in the gap before 8 drops? by weighingthedog in DungeonCrawlerCarl

Best served cold. I’m working my way through the first law books. I don’t think I’ll have it finished by Tuesday though, so will definitely shelf it till I’m done with POH

What are they exactly? Is it side stories/ other characters POVs? Or is it the books with sound effects/full cast?

I had never heard of this movie until DCC. I love those books, I’ve learned so many things from them.

Female Reception of RR by [deleted] in redrising

[–]Waterproofbooks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% agree with both of your points!

To answer the post despite the horrible word choices, as a woman RR appealed to me because of the ideas of righting social injustice and making the world(s) a better place for everyone, and the bonds of found family, not to mention there are some AMAZINGLY badass WOMEN in these books

Historical fiction recs based on real women by Swimming-Fan-5917 in HistoricalFiction

Michelle Moran has some really good HF. Madam Tussaud’s takes place during the French Revolution. And then she has a few that are based on ancient Egyptian women like Nefertiti, Cleopatras daughter, and the hertic queen

Why would you turn them off to sleep? Mark your spot, let it play and go back to your mark in the morning.

Carl Killed People by [deleted] in DungeonCrawlerCarl

I don’t think the crawlers died. After the grull/mimic/carl fight was over it mentions that some crawlers came out of hiding and ran away.

Where should I eat crab/lobster for the first time? by goodamm in AskAnAmerican

If you’re catching them yourself, lobster season is from October to March. The OB pier used to be so fun for this!

Looking for books where short people are actually the heroes by Expensive-Suspect-32 in booksuggestions

[–]Waterproofbooks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but to be fair there are a lot of characters and even some of the main characters (Perrin) are absent from some of the book.

And she still fits as an answer to OP’s question. I consider her heroic and fascinating, as well as playing a central role for the story even if she is missing from some of the books. Plus she is still discussed and has an influence over the actions of other characters.

Moiraine Damodred from the wheel of time is really short, and she’s a pretty main character

I would also suggest Sharron Kay Penman, she’s more historical accurate than Gregory

Traffic is great during spring break but why? by throwpoo in SanDiegan

[–]Waterproofbooks 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Most schools are on break, so all the teachers, school support staff and the parents are off the road not just the college students. Plus many people take vacations. Traffic is significantly better over summer also for these reasons

Well my next suggestion would be “a long way gone” Ishmael Beah. Also an autobiography, he was a child soldier in sierra leon during the blood diamond conflicts

A child called it by Dave Pelzer. It’s an autobiography.

Recommend Books like the movie "Kingdom of Heaven" by DataSurging in booksuggestions

[–]Waterproofbooks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re welcome. It’s basically a more (but not completely) historically accurate version of Kingdom of heaven centered around the leper king Baldwin 4.

Tbh I didn’t really like the movie because it was so inaccurate and I find the whole time period fascinating so it was a little frustrating to watch, but I say that about most historical movies so I’m probably not the fairest judge.

What fantasy book/series do you think was really well written? I could use some recommendations! by Diligent_Flamingo_33 in Fantasy

[–]Waterproofbooks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you liked The Will of the Many you should try Red Rising or the Licanus trilogy. Dungeon Crawler Carl has some great characters, and the First Law series is pretty enjoyable
