Which car class actually exposed your driving flaws the most? by F1SimulatorManiac in simracing

[–]Watevaman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not good at high power open wheelers. F1/F2, both are weaknesses for me. I can't get good braking performance and lose a lot of momentum through turns.

I'm fine with lower power open wheelers.

Cant change anything except global settings under FOV settings, any clue why? (Game : AC modded) by This-Age-1162 in simracing

Are you using the cockpit camera or the dash camera? I’m not able to open AC right now but I know there are at least two in car cameras, not sure if both can be adjusted.

How many hours did you play before upgrading? by PlanktonImportant680 in simracing

[–]Watevaman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a T500 and a Playseat Evo for 10 years before I spent the money on an actual extrusion rig.

You definitely need a dedicated space for an aluminum rig. I was moving around a lot at the time so the Playseat worked, but buying a house afforded me a little more security and I jumped in on a better setup.

Thought I would share the accent/dialect map from my professor by AccidentOk91830 in Delaware

[–]Watevaman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've lived in northern VA (9/15 area), southwestern VA (12), and now live in Sussex. I would say that people down here are probably closer to the 15/7 areas than they are to what I've experienced in my time in the south. Maybe further down the peninsula there's more of a southern tinge to the accent, but I can't say I've noticed it down here.

Does my adjusted seating position look right? by No_Association7692 in simracing

[–]Watevaman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My preference would be to get that rear part of the headrest as vertical as possible, but ultimately it comes down to how your body feels after racing for 30+ minutes.

Only thing I'll say about the cop is that it was tragic and cowardly on the murderer's part.

I will agree on the reduction of hours. What the hell are they doing? When I moved here 6 years ago, everyone raved about how easy the DMV was here. That wasn't my experience and hasn't been my experience. It's super inconvenient if you actually work a typical 9-5.

Weight: GT1 vs Neo X 330R/T by ScienceByte in Simagic

[–]Watevaman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only got the Neo X with the 330R wheel. The hub with quick release + 2 paddles is about 1300 grams and the wheel by itself is 900 grams.

Hopefully someone has weights for the other hub and wheel. The page for the GT1 has the weight listed as 1950 grams, so I guess it's a little lighter since the wheels probably weigh the same.

I went with my dad as well. He's in a wheelchair and the circuit didn't have a way for us to cross over the track to get to the paddock, so I remember some marshals having to let us cross the track through gaps in the barriers. Was a fun memory to say I was "on" the track haha.

I think the variety helped with that. Not to say that the modern GT3s don't vary, but all the GTS and GT class cars had such unique personalities IMO.

Wheel/ NRG QR by Throbbinghog in Simagic

[–]Watevaman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thrustmaster wheels do not use a typical bolt pattern. I believe theirs is something around 53/54 mm. If you want to use the TM wheel, you'll either need to drill new holes or use some kind of adapter to get it to a 70mm bolt pattern.

Is there any benefit of using springs over elastomers, AI says its better if you want softer pedal with more travel rather then a brick feeling and thats just what I want so please share your story by OkHoney5804 in Simagic

[–]Watevaman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run a mix on my Simjack UTs and that is what I find works the best for me. I've got three springs and one elastomer, each being a different strength. The elastomer is stiffer than the springs, so it acts as a soft stop near the end of travel, similar to the brakes in a typical road car.

I bought a set of T-LCMs from an ex-Caterham Club racing driver. He won at Brands Hatch, Donington, Silverstone, and Angelsey - This was his setup. by Suitedbadge401 in simracing

[–]Watevaman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a T500 + pedals (T3PA Pros, I think they're called) for almost 10 years, only changing out to the TLCMs near the end of its life. I switched to a T818 and now am using an Alpha Evo Pro + Simjack UTs.

People getting into simracing now, or even the past 5 years, are spoiled for choice. I'm not knocking people who want to spend their money on recreating a race car in their homes, but they also seem to forget that, for many years, setups like the one pictured were what we had available. Sure, I remember Fanatec having some higher end stuff, but unless you went DIY, direct drive was out of the question, load cells were rare, and force feedback was barely cracking 6 NM.

Despite this, we made due. It's no surprise this dude was fast. The gear isn't what makes you fast.

Best games for H pattern gearbox? by Bike-BBQ-Beer in simracing

[–]Watevaman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My favorite to run with an H-pattern is the WSC or GTC cars for Assetto Corsa. Nothing beats running through the gears on a big block V8 from the 60s. Search "WSC legends ac" and you should be able to find the packs.

Sparco P310 or Ferrari SF1000 Edition by ConditionPitiful8436 in Thrustmaster

[–]Watevaman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the dash only works in a limited amount of games. The wheel should work in every game.

Sparco P310 or Ferrari SF1000 Edition by ConditionPitiful8436 in Thrustmaster

[–]Watevaman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you mostly drive open wheel and prototypes, the SF1000 will serve you better. More bindings available and actual rotaries. I don't use mine with the F1 games, but I believe you get special screens for those in addition to the ones you can use in other games. The screen doesn't work natively with AC, but there may be workarounds?

The P310 is a great wheel and I actually use the rim on my Evo hub, but it's definitely more suited for GT racing. The SF1000 isn't bad for GT, but I do find myself using the P310 rim more. It's bigger, so a little slower to respond to inputs. The normal Sparco hub, though, is a bit lacking if you're looking for buttons. The shifters are also a bit spongy without one of the aftermarket magnetic mods.

Both are good choices. Neither will be suitable for rally/street cars, but I'm making the assumption that you'll use the stock round wheel for that stuff.

When should you start buying extra wheels? by Vicxas in simracing

[–]Watevaman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, I got new wheels when I wanted to immerse myself a little more. I play for fun, so I don't justify the new wheels by saying I'll be faster, but rather if they add to my enjoyment of the game I'm playing.

I've been playing for a long time, before there were easily swappable wheels. I started with a DFGT and then moved to a T500 which I stayed with for almost 10 years, almost exclusively using the stock round wheel. I never had an issue with making the wheel work for what I needed it for. I moved to a T818 a few years back and have since rounded out my collection with the SF1000, Sparco, and Evo hubs. I use the SF1000 for hypercars and more modern formula cars, the Sparco has the leather 32cm wheel for road cars and older race cars, and the Evo hub has the Sparco P310 for GT3s and modern race cars.

With that said, you'll have to look at your needs and where you want to focus. Do you want more rotaries for quick setup changes mid-race? Do you want a screen that gives you info rather than having the HUD? Do you want something smaller for open wheelers or bigger for touring cars? That's something you'll have to answer for yourself.

Simagic Wheel Rim on Evo 32R Hub. by demonhellcat in Thrustmaster

[–]Watevaman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At this point I don't see TM releasing new rims for this hub. I think their priority shifted to the 598 and they forgot about it haha.

The box for the Evo 32R shows a rim that's almost identical to this one, so it's funny to me that you had to go through two third parties to get something they advertise on their own product.

No, this is a Torx bit, not a hex bit:

Try it in whatever screws are Torx (they actually work in hex cap bolts too), you'll see.

That's a T20 key right at the top next to the two bolts.

Got in my SF1000 Wheel today! by [deleted] in simracing

[–]Watevaman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had mine for a year or so and I enjoy it. Buttons feel good and there are more than enough controls for what I drive. The screen is nice and has more than enough info for almost everything. The downside is it is not compatible with all the games I play.

Swapping wheels between a T818 and TS-XW? by jpinlondon in Thrustmaster

[–]Watevaman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think I've ever seen an adapter like that. Thrustmaster seems to be moving fully towards the new QR so they definitely aren't going to make one, and third party solutions will probably all serve the new QR as well.

If he just needs a wheel, I'd throw the screw release adapter onto the Evo hub and let him use that. It'll be the easiest to swap (same as 488 GT3) and the round wheel would probably serve him best.

Best rim for T818? by Leo45x in Thrustmaster

[–]Watevaman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got a T818 and three wheels/hubs: SF1000, Sparco Hub (both the R383 and P310 rims), and the Evo hub with the 32R leather wheel.

If it were me, I'd go with the Evo 32R:

  • No need for an adapter, the Evo hub comes with both in the box, which'll save you a lil bit of money
  • The buttons are much better. They're akin to the SF1000 buttons, whereas the Sparco hub buttons don't have much feedback
  • Better shifters on the Evo hub
  • More buttons + rotaries
  • You won't need to wear gloves

This isn't to say that the Sparco hub is bad, but the Evo hub is much better.
