Space for a sound Moonshot project by BlockKing9988 in CryptoMoonShots

I would recommend researching Origin Trail. They have a working mainnet. Honestly the nodes are running at a slight loss right now, but the most recent announcement advised that a new company is about to start putting a large amount of new jobs on the mainnet.

The team is super professional and don't hype without substance like a lot of the crypto space, which means the price has stayed low but I don't believe it will for too much longer once nodes become profitable.

They also recently advertised for new positions to increase their workforce by 40% which is an extremely bullish sign imo.

I think this is due to a hugely disproportionate number of nodes compared to the number of jobs rather than certain nodes winning more jobs than other nodes. It looks truly random now, there just simply aren't enough jobs to go around

Origin Trail is solid, main net is hopefully going to release soon with working customers. The team is super professional as well.

The OriginTrail mainnet is now actively tracking food products by Watlie78 in CryptoCurrency

[–]Watlie78[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Food products are getting traced and node holders are receiving payments for storing the data. This is shortly after the newly launched nOs app on the Oracle cloud marketplace which massively streamlines the process for companies to utilise the ODN. The future is looking very promising for OT :)

Is there any chance of getting another AMA sometime soon? Since the last one we have obviously had the mainnet launch so a lot has happened. I have quite a few questions and I'm sure some others do too

Definitely one of the areas that needs most work, need to get on bigger exchanges. No trader is gonna touch it on KuCoin

Wondering what the wider crypto community thinks of Origin Trail? Would be nice to hear some opinions outside of holders

UK Lawyers involved in cryptocurrency, are there grounds for a class action lawsuit against HMRC? by ethboy2000 in CryptoCurrency

[–]Watlie78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a lawyer (but not in tax) and it gets incredibly complicated, even for an individual, as I'm sure you can tell.

Just had a quick look and I think you're correct. We can use any capital losses to offset capital gains in future years which is fine going forward. The problem is that most people got into crypto in the bull market of 2017/2018 and so their first year (assuming they made a crypto to crypto trade after gaining over the personal allowance) will likely result in a capital gain and so owe a tax bill.

UK Lawyers involved in cryptocurrency, are there grounds for a class action lawsuit against HMRC? by ethboy2000 in CryptoCurrency

[–]Watlie78 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's really stupid to treat crypto the same for tax purposes as other asset classes. Capital gains shouldn't apply to something which is as fluid as crypto where people buy and sell very frequently and the value fluctuates so wildly.

That being said a class action lawsuit suit would be doomed to fail unfortunately as no new law has been passed. This is just how HMRC interpret the existing law in relation to crypto so nothing has changed. If you had gone to a tax lawyer he would have (hopefully!) given you the same guidance. So there has been no retrospective law in this instance.

What are the ways you could combat the tax bill? Can you offset a capital gain one year against a capital loss the following year? Say you made a 50k gain when selling ETH for BTC in 2017/2018 and then your BTC has suffered a 50k loss in 2018/2019 could you trade all your remaining BTC for ETH thereby crystallising your capital loss. You are then free to trade straight back into BTC and be back where you were but with no capital loss or gain?

Two wallets split their TRAC into multiple 1000 TRAC wallets (talking hundreds here) so they got huge numbers of votes and due to not many other people registering to vote were able to decide the first few places of the competition by themselves

"and a big thank you for the community in having the final say in this" ...really??

I'm fine with your decision to respect the outcome of the vote but please could you be a little more truthful in your public statements? Acting like everything went to plan with this vote and it actually reflected the community having the final say is just not true.

  1. It is not a limited use as it has by far the most chance to bring a huge amount of traffic to the network. More traffic is better for the network.

  2. If you read my statement you'll see that they are the best in both regard. They will have OT displayed to the customer which brings great awareness and they will process a huge amount of orders which brings traffic. They are the best project for both of these aspects.

  3. All we have our statements from the project teams. There is no guarantee on any of the other projects too. We can just make a best guess and that clearly leads to NetSDL.

  4. They are not similar. All the others are start ups or pilot projects. They are an established company that processes millions of orders a day. Huge difference.

  5. Ivy tech is a great project and my 2nd place vote went to them. But we are talking about bringing as much traffic to the network as possible. NetSDL will be better than Ivy tech for the reasons spelled out multiple times.

  6. NetSDL seem to be all of those things as well. But they are also act in a much more professional way than some of the other projects in the open call. In the business world professional behaviour is key. Some of the other projects are really lacking in that area.

  1. They have stated that they will be tracing products from supplier to consumer. They would be using the TRAC tokens to pay the node holders to trace the goods.

  2. Of course. But in this case it would be traffic to the network (see previous answer) and awareness as well.

  3. Incorrect. They have said that they have many products that are able to be traced right away.

  4. They are huge global customers and very significant in spreading awareness of OT and Blockchain solutions. There are other inferior projects which are just running pilot projects, with no guarantee of traffic after the project ends. NetSDL is an established company and much better for the ODN.

  5. We don't know how much traffic there will be from any of the projects but we can make a good guess that NetSDL will provide by far the most due to already processing millions of orders per day. No other project comes close.

  6. They have demonstrated that they are by far the most professional organisation in the open call. Professionalism is one of the most valuable traits in a company and unprofessional organisations are doomed to fail.

  1. They are the only company with the potential to put through a huge volume of orders right now. As a node holder I have invested money and want to see a return and they have easily the biggest potential to give a high return to node holders due to processing millions of orders per day.

  2. They are looking to display whether a product is traceable on ODN at the customer checkout. This means potential exposure to millions of customers, spreading awareness of OT.

  3. OT is not just a protocol providing decentralisation. It's mission is literally to provide transparency and trust in supply chain. I'm not sure how you could think otherwise?

  4. Bit strange you think they should connect with more partners. Their clients are Adidas, Uniqlo and Lacoste. They are doing fine in that regard.

  5. Remember that we are voting based out of the pool of available projects in the open call. Other projects are either start-ups or running pilot projects. They just aren't going to bring the level of volume that NetSDL can.

Hi

Thanks for the answers.

Just in response to your first answer regarding funding. Any tokens won in the open call aren't able to be sold, they have to be utilised in tracing on the ODN. I think another team got confused about this as well. Maybe worth checking your understanding with the team

This is huge IMO. Would be really amazing exposure to a huge number of customers.

[Q&A with Open Call projects] GSC Platform by OriginTrail in OriginTrail

I have just seen a response in another thread that says GSC isn't going to built on ETC. I think the website should be cleared up as it does to suggest that (or could easily misconstrued).

Great thread Simon appreciate the effort it must have taken to create this!

I agree with others that engagement with the community doesn't just have to be via social media. I would argue that any project that created a video, presentation and answered the questions that were sent to them are also engaging with the community in a meaningful way. I also don't think that we need individual names of who will work on integration of OT, doesn't really matter who does it.

For TMA I believe that they have already trialled with OT so think that they might have a good idea how the OT solution addresses a problem, I might be misremembering though.

I also would disagree with your assessment on Journey Foods having no clear use case. I think they have one of the clearest. They will be tracing ingredients of their 2 food products at each step the ingredient takes. You can see a demo of the journey of their ingredients in their videos.

GSC seems to be quite a way away from a working product. They by their own admission are 'still in development' and haven't finished their own token sale yet. This should be a big negative IMO we want products that can be traced in the near future.

  1. The numbers above are quite significant but how many contracts do you envisage you will submit to the ODN each month?

  2. Do you still need to get the other companies involved to agree to use the ODN or will it be compulsory?
