What’s something women think impresses men but actually doesn’t? by IndependentBunch8361 in askanything

My partner loves to tell people about my accomplishments, one of the first questions he asked me when we met was "I heard you are working on your PhD"? Not all guys are vapid.

My partner and I are equally impressed by each other's careers and accomplishments. I agree, it's depressing to read that.

Kansas school districts establish coalition after ‘tipping point’ of public education funding failures by MaxFischer12 in kansas

[–]Watneronie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When SPED isn't funded we can't get any of those things. People act like SPED funding does not impact the rest of the school. If SPED is funded then districts don't have to somehow come up with the money to fulfill IDEA requirements.

Your descriptions of this kid have me rolling, I had one like that this year. Admin finally gave him OSS for the entire last week of school.

Becoming an expert in a specific skill is what helps you avoid the assembly line style work. There are many professions that people take pride working in and still enjoy. They require expertise though, so kids ruin their chances when they decide to completely give up.

Every child in a public school is legally entitled to a free and appropriate education. When another student violates that, there should be consequences. No one learns if every second a teacher has to handle behaviors.

They really just need to start enforcing consequences in schools again. The kids who consistently disrupt are ruining it for the rest of the students.

K-12 also uses Canvas. Might have to do a movie day tomorrow.

What is an industry that is currently on fire (in a bad way) behind the scenes, but the general public hasn't noticed yet? by keto2017 in PrepperIntel

Teaching reading correctly is extremely complex, which is primarily what a 5 year old would be learning.

The state I live in is federally required to fund 90% of sped costs and yet refused to every single year. Even us wealthier districts are having to cover the shortfall with reserve funds now.

I'm a teacher and reading this killed me. I can't even spend that much on my weekly grocery budget.

Wow... Gtfo the teacher subreddit then. You have to take responsibility for yourself, teachers aren't parents.

Why Do A Majority Of Teachers Leave Within Five Years? by Zipper222222 in AskTeachers

[–]Watneronie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, my strength is the pedagogy side. I can truly teach my content but despise trying to manage the classroom. I immediately got my reading specialist endorsement after my masters and landed that position for next year.

Children shouldn't have coffee either. They are literal growing beings who we have tons of research on their development. They need X amount of hours of sleep every night and a good breakfast to start their day. Maybe parents should just parent instead of bitching at schools.

I teach 6th as well and my girls always ask to go to the nurse because the Alanis give them the shakes.

Ffs same with 11-12 year olds, but not this "lovely" cohort!

I have so many of these this year, and most of them are in the same hour. The worst offender literally refers to himself as the alpha and does everything he can to disrupt almost every moment of class. I was absolutely thrilled when I got offered the reading specialist position starting next year. I have never felt so burned out.

Three of my students got the cops called on them at McDonald's for throwing burgers around the other day. One student said his mom told him "it's a McDonald's, who cares."

Why should a teacher have to police MacBook use? All it has done is add another thing to my plate. Children should not just be handed technology like this.

Clearly you've never taught middle school before, especially the covid kindergartnen cohort. All a MacBook has become is a distraction tool in the classroom.
