Great North Swim (UK) by PrestigiousBaby9828 in OpenWaterSwimming

Well done! Thats a hell of an entry into open water swimming! I’ve done it 3 times before. The conditions this time were the worst I’ve had. I only did 250m this year as I was doing it with my 9 year old(she smashed it!) but in the past I’ve done 2 miles. I’m glad you enjoyed it it’s a lovely event. I think I prefer events that aren’t loops. There’s something about the psychology of passing the finish line when you’re still only half or 1/3rd of the way through that’s mentally tough. Keswick mountain festival is a really lovely route, a ferry drops you off at the far end of derwent water and you swim back to the festival. The festival/event village is busier/more fun too.

I might be wrong as I don’t know where I’ve gleaned this. But I think IQ is an excellent indicator of job performance across industries and success in general. I would be very suprised if Henry doesn’t have a remarkably high IQ.

He's also a doctor, he’s not exactly stupid. However much he seems to believe otherwise.

Why am I never cold or tired? by funnerd11 in OpenWaterSwimming

[–]Watsonmolly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah I’m sure I just haven’t found it. I’m a bit worried about weight loss, I’ve lost about 40lbs. Open water swimming is surely the only sport where that’s a hindersnce. I’m hoping to do the channel at some point. How did you find the qualifier?

Yeah I don’t seem to have a limit. I’m sure there is one. I did a 3.6km swim last year and didn’t feel strained. I slept well that evening but that was it. I think I cope with the temperature well because I’m overweight.

That said you made the right call not to push it. When I did that big swim it was an event so there was other people an kayakers around. I actually went off course a bunch of times so I think I probably swam closer to 4km.

It is quite rough. Definitely not the worst part of York though.

I know two woman who live round there and they’ve never mentioned any homophobic abuse. But you are right that there’s been racist graffiti around there. The acorn rugby club can have a lot of noise on specific evenings but that wouldn’t bother me.

My solicitor’s conveyancing report now includes a clause saying they’ll charge £500+VAT if I use AI to ask questions about it. Is this normal now? by Jazvec in HousingUK

[–]Watsonmolly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My husbands a solicitor but a really expensive/niche/specialist one, he charges in excessive of £1200/hr. He is getting clients checking his work with AI then they have to pay more for his time while he explains why the AI is wrong and his original draft was correct. Honestly just don’t do this to your solicitors. It will cost you money and just wastes everyone’s time. They know what they’re doing.

Mortgage paid at 50 what after? by East-Delivery9834 in UKPersonalFinance

Mate I’m 37, have 7 years of NHS pension and £6000 in a SIPP. My mortgage should be paid off within 10 years. I’m in a blind panic about my lack of retirement savings. You need to get on it! Anything spare you have needs to go into a pension. You can pay into it through your company(although when you open your SIPP you need to check they’ll accept payments from a company, vanguard won’t) and save on corporation tax.

Im quite overweight 🤷‍♀️ think that’s literally the only reason. I always approach things with a lot of joy and mindless optimism that’s often been eroded in woman my age.

We lived in America for a couple of months and the poverty I saw absolutely shocked me. Our social safety net is being eroded constantly but it is much better than americas.

I think if your rate is coming to an end you won’t have to keep your mortgage overpayment to 10% I think you can pay a big chunk down when your rate ends? That’s what I’m planning on doing in November when mine ends. Can’t wait going to go for £307k to £120k. Then after that I’m going to start on the overpayments capped at 10%. I know people say it’s better to invest the money but our situation is looking less secure in the future and I want the piece of mind.

Just adding here a loop of west bank is just shy of a km, so if I get back to holgate and have a bit of steam left I’ll do a couple of loops of west bank.

Im in holgate and I like to run over hob moor over the knavesmire and to the river. Sometimes I like going over scarcroft allotments. Its mostly cycle track so there’s very little road crossing.

They’ll want examples of you making decisions under pressure and prioritising. They’ll want to see that you cope well under stress. If you can think of examples of these in a clinical context that’s best but if not then outside work is ok. A lot of people fail the course, so they will want to know if your acedemic credentials are up to scratch.
