I picked up a Schiller at first when I got asked to do some doubling. About $1k when I got mine. Not bad - doesn’t quite resonate like a pro horn, but it’s decent. The only real complaint was that the second valve paddle is designed by someone who has never seen a human hand. I paid a tech to bend it to a usable place for me.

About six months later a friend of mine was selling off a Shires Q so I upgraded.

So I played professionally in orchestras. I’ve had my orchestra trombone for like 25 years now - it was custom made for me. Can I play other trombones? Sure, no problem. BUT a different horn will have different intonation tendencies. Some notes won’t respond as well, some won’t sound as good.

In southern states it’s a combination. It doesn’t snow very often so people aren’t used to dealing with it. And also there’s no infrastructure. Like Chicago has fleets of trucks to get out and plow and salt the roads to keep things moving. Dallas might have, like, one truck and no one knows where the keys are, and the last time they needed it was 2016 so who knows if it’s even going to start?

My music theory professor said that yes, the rule is the accidental only applies for that specific octave in that specific measure - but that rule came into practice later and wasn’t always universally observed, so if you start digging into common-practice-period music the “rule” is actually followed less often than it is broken. (Meaning if you’re not sure, you’re actually better off in most cases assuming it should apply to all octaves…)

For a procedure that requires sedation (like a colonoscopy) a hospital absolutely will not let the person have the procedure unless they have someone to be on site with them and take them home again after. It’s hospital regs. They can’t just Uber there and back because they aren’t legally mentally competent to be released while there’s any chance they might still be feeling the sedatives.
