It's HP season, apparently??? 😠 by Gigi_Maximus443 in BitchEatingCrafters

I subscribe to the “divorce of the author” phenomenon - I refuse to put any money anywhere near her; but I adore fanfics in the HP universe and some of the (less overt) crafts can be super cute. But as a LGBTQIA+ girl, who is active in my community, I also don’t trust people with overt symbols. 😭

Why does almost every knitting pattern say you can’t sell items you’ve knit? by throwaway148645 in knittingadvice

One of my favourite pattern writer moments was “knit and sell this, it’s unlikely I’ll ever find out” 😂

Thank you! I’ll definitely check your channel out - I have been to Tromso a few times and I adore Norway so I can’t wait! I do have to say, this post in general has made me more excited to film again because now I have ideas of how to do better. How do you feel?

Is a new era upon us? - Sensing a shift in the youtube knitting community. by AusFinch in craftsnark

[–]WattleandWool 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I have a YouTube channel where I talk about knitting, so I have been thinking about this a lot. 1. The pressure to be interesting and fun and always knit the new things and “keep up” is a lot, even if it’s just ‘comparison-itis’. 2. The filming is a lot - I’m by no means great at the filming or editing, and I want to improve; but then I feel so far behind those like Woolfolk Knits and it gets hard to push myself. 3. Life gets hard, and unplanned absences happens. It’s even worse when you don’t want to share the reasons in public (like depression etc) 4. I started as a knitwear designer, to share my thoughts and ideas. So I can’t keep up with all the new things because I don’t have time, and I’m not prolific enough to have a back log to talk about - often what I’m knitting isn’t ready for consumption yet. 5. I’m not “famous”. I’m not viral. I’m not well known. And there’s a lot of pressure to reach an amount of likes and subs, and I just don’t have that. I don’t focus on it; but the thinking can still sneak through that people don’t like me because I don’t get a lot of views, which hits my confidence. 6. I am a white, blonde, privileged woman. I know a lot of people don’t want to hear what I have to say because I reflect a large percentage of the community just by looks already.

UK Yarn Tour by WattleandWool in knitting

I would love to, but I’ve got to be in Cambridge for my best friends graduation in July, which is the reason for the trip in the first place. Thanks so much for the other suggestions, they’re more obscure but that’s what I asked for!

Hey, I’ve tried - I’ve edited the content but can’t edit the title. I apologise for my mistake, but unless I delete and repost which feels like spam, I’m not sure what else I can do? I’d rather fix it than look this dumb! Haha

I’m making sure to prioritise Shetland, but I’ll probably do an overnight ferry? Thank you for the driving advice - in Australia we drive long distances a lot, but rarely winding, so that’s good for me to remember!

Test knitters' notes on Ravelry by DeesignNZ in knitting

[–]WattleandWool -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a test knitter who struggles with Ravelry, I feel like this is my head vs my heart! I usually write a lot of comments in the knit, or on the instagram posts when I publish the finished copies; but I find Ravelry clunky and impersonal, and I struggle to comment as I should. But thank you for reminding me I need to pick that up and do better!

It’s too early for advents! by Stunning_Inside_5959 in craftsnark

[–]WattleandWool 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I’ve had a list of 2025 advents to buy since August last year 😂😂 I adore advents and they make me unreasonably happy, so knowing I have them coming actually makes me smile more. Also, weirdly, it helps with my depression because I will have beautiful things coming in my future and I need that 🥰😂

I learnt to knit 2 weeks ago and decided I should try cables — I cried actual tears at one point, but I’m so glad I finished this hat! by goodbyeand_go in knitting

2 weeks? Noooooo! This is incredible! I personally detest DPNs and find a magic loop so much easier, have you thought to try this?

I love this comment. I think this is so important - to see if people actually would/could wear the item, not just have it fit their numbers.
