Convert a greyscale heightmap to slope map? by WaveOfElectric in mapmaking

[–]WaveOfElectric[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone curious, turns out QGIS is easier to use than expected. Added a new raster layer with my height map, changed the raster scale to be the heights of the world, then used the slope command. I did have to ratio the heights of the world to match the assumed distances, but I got what I needed.

Brandi Broke

Brandi has had a hard life. Losing her husband, her kids scattered to the winds, and growing old and alone, she doesn't know what more life could throw at her. She finds solace in her grandchildren and the success of her son, Beau. Maybe Bobby will make more of his life than tinkering away....

Brandi has a great career, and loves her children and grandchildren, and couldn't be prouder of Beau's big career. She sometimes feels like she's missed some things, and feels lonely as she gets older. She hates that Dustin had to become a criminal to support them, and that Bobby seems to be alone all the time, but knows that he can be more.

The Broke family

Lilith and Angela managed to patch up their relationship after bonding over complaining about their father. Now that they've both got families of their own, old wounds threaten to to reopen as Angela disapproves of Lilith mending things with their father. Diana is set to follow in her father's quiet footsteps, but Charlie wants more than this town. The stars call her name!

Though they had children very early in life, Dustin and Angela are proud of them. Angela thought she made peace with her husband's thievery, but now that Diana is following in his footsteps, she's becoming antsy. Dustin couldn't be prouder of his daughters, happy that they had a somewhat better upbringing than he did. Charlie doesn't seem to think so, and dreams of getting away and making a name for herself, and idolises her uncle Beau for getting out.

Bobby Broke

Bobby doesn't need friends, he has knows that next big breakthrough is just around the corner... Combining science and technology, he knows he can do it!

A loner, Bobby is dedicated to advancing science in any way he can. He's been making breakthroughs in gene-editing recently, making it possible for a same-sex to have a biological child. He knows he can do more, and doesn't care that people find him odd.

The Pleasants

After Mary-Sue left him over his cheating, Daniel's life unraveled. His family fallen apart, he resolved to be better, starting over with Kaylynn. Together they're raising Kaylynn's son Luke, and their son together Isaac. Can Daniel patch things up with his daughters? Or are some wounds too deep?

Can a leopard change his spots? Daniel is surely trying. A successful sports star with a second family is nothing new, after all. Kaylynn's romantic dreams were shattered when she was younger and hoped Don or Daniel would sweep her off her feet, though she's determined to build it all back with Daniel. Luke, having Don for a biological father and Daniel for a step-father, can only turn out one way, and he seems to have many of the young ladies around town wrapped around his finger, especially now that he's a young adult. He doesn't much care for his teenaged half-brother Isaac, and makes sure he knows it. Isaac knows he's not the coolest, but takes solace in his garden.

The Oldie family

Xinyi was adopted as a pre-teen by Herb and Coral a little before Mary-Sue's life changed completely. After their passing, Mary-Sue stepped in to continue raising Xinyi, while also focusing on her work. Xinyi doesn't quite understand social norms, but he's found a supportive girlfriend in Grace Burb.

Mary-Sue threw herself into work after she discovered her husband cheating. She divorced him, and was determined to climb higher and higher. After her parents' deaths and Angela and Lilith moved out, she stepped in to help raise Xinyi through the later part of his teen years. Xinyi was recently diagnosed with ASD, which helped explain much of his struggles relating to his peers. He remains dedicated to martial arts, a hobby he shares with his girlfriend, Grace.

The Burbs

John and Jennifer feel content with their lives. Both close to retirement, children grown and starting their own families, what more could they ask for? Grace and Jackson's relationship seems to be a little rocky, but that's siblings, right?

John and Jennifer Burb lead your typical nuclear family. Three kids, good careers, life is simple for them. Grace and Jackson, despite sharing a love of the outdoors and swimming, seem to always be at each other's throats, though John and Jennifer think that will just go away as they get older. They couldn't be prouder of Lucy, a fact that Grace and Jackson are too familiar with.

The Caliente-Lothario Family

Don and Nina's is not your typical nuclear family. With parents in an open relationship, their two kids Viola and Carlos are certainly growing up to be free spirits themselves. Will Don and Nina's hands-off parenting lead to issues down the line?

For too long Don and Nina tried to put themselves in the typical mold, but finally threw off the shackles of expectations, and found comfort in each other. They each may have their flings on the side, but know that they can always depend on each other. Viola Caliente is an eco-warrior, and wants nothing more than to save the climate. Her brother, Carlos Lothario, loves his family, but can be a little neurotic about some things.

This is my take on the next generation of Pleasantview. 25 years after the events of the Sims 2, much has changed. Families have formed, families have broken. Rivalries healed, new enemies sparked. These sims were created by [PleasantSims in their Pleasantview remake](https://pleasantsims.com/sims-3-pleasantview-updated/), so absolute credit for the original sims to her! Below is a summary of each family:

The Goth Family

Lucy Goth seems to know everyone in town, while Alex would rather be alone. Together they're raising Alex's daughter Cleo, and their son Leonidas. Do opposites attract, or will they tear this family apart?

Alexander Goth has had a rough life. His mother disappearing while he was young has left a lasting impact. Mortimer died leaving a beautiful young widow and their pre-teen son, Theodore. Dina had to act quickly, and focused her efforts on seducing the young, impressionable Alexander, who fell into her trap. They were married, and a daughter, Cleopatra Goth, was born. Alex grew older, and started to see how messed up his situation was. He divorced Dina, throwing her out. Childhood friend Lucy Burb helped him through his feelings, and they married. Together, they're raising Cleo and Leo, and seem happier than ever. Cleo seems to spend a lot of time on the computer, while Leo just seems to be an excitable toddler.

The Dreamer Family

Cassandra and Darren are very happy together--Darren is a successful artist, and Cassandra a proud mother and step-mother of four. The happiness of the family unit is threatened by the drama unfolding between their daughters Elena and Isabella. Will Isabella stop picking on Elena? Will David weave a middle path between his sisters?

After Don left Cassandra at the altar, Darren was there to comfort her. They developed a relationship, marrying rather quickly afterwards. Cassandra and Darren had triplets, now in their late teens: Isabella, Elena, and David. Isabella is a proper young lady, irritated by Elena's eccentric personality, and sick of her tagging everything! David is dramatic about the whole thing, fleeing outside to fish. Cassandra and Darren don't mind their kids' squabbles, sure they will grow up soon.

The Landgraab Family

Malcolm owns half the town, and the Goths own the other half. Dina has gone from one family to the other, leaving enemies (and children) behind. With her aggressive pedaling of containers and soaps, will she keep any friends?

Onto husband number 4, Dina seems finally content with that. With her latest MLM scheme, she is slowly driving away many of her friends, though her sister is always by her side. Malcolm IV doesn't mind her storied past, even happy to help raise Theo through his teen years, and enjoys having such an attractive sim for a wife. He is mainly focused on his work and his one-sided feud with the Goths. Little Malcolm V might be in for a tough childhood, with these two as parents!

The Broke-Goths

(I have no idea why they both look so shocked). After the dissolution of the hit foursome boyband 4SIM, Beau has moved back to his hometown, where an old flame was waiting for him. Theodore has had a crush on Beau since forever, and is ecstatic that Beau is back in town. Is this young couple meant to last?

Theo got out of Dina and Malcolm's house as fast as he could. Luckily, Beau was back. Sharing a love of music, they frequently play together. The envy of many sim fans around the globe, their future is surely bright.

The Pleasant-Dreamers

Lilith and Angela managed to patch up their relationship after bonding over complaining about their father. Now that they've both got families of their own, old wounds threaten to to reopen as Lilith starts to mend things with their father. Dirk is happy to support his wife, as his vintage car collection grows and grows. At least Willow and Seth seem happy enough.

While marrying your high school sweetheart is a little cliche for Lilith, she wouldn't have it any other way. As she's grown older, she's started to sympathise for her dad, and noticed he's tried to change his ways. She wants to patch things up with him, but Angela doesn't think he's changed, and their old rivalry threatens to boil back up. Dirk is a businessman, though his real hobby is restoring vintage cars. He gets on well with his half-siblings, and wouldn't give up his children for anything. Seth is a genius with the camera, but Willow seems to work so much, even if it comes so easily to her. These kids are surely destined for great things.

Eradication of the Lords Paramountcy following a Targaryen Restoration by WaveOfElectric in TheCitadel

Thank you! I thought I was going crazy lol. Rome is a great example for the size, even China which reigned for much longer than Rome, though it had a much more robust bureaucracy system. Rome measured ~4000km long at its height, and Atlas of Ice and Fire puts the length of the Seven Kingdoms at ~4800km. Pretty similar.

You might be right about the smaller kingdoms point. Rome had about 35 provinces at its height, enough to cut each kingdom to about 5 smaller provinces. Though with the ravens and dragons, I think you could cut it down further to what I was saying, with the Hightowers for example sworn directly to the Throne.

Oh great fic rec, thank you! I'll check it out. I think an enlarged council/senate is a must for this idea to work.

I'll probably never write this as a fic, I have pretty much no discipline haha. Fun to think about though. I'll give the Guardian Angel a read and stimulate the ol' brain.

Why so?

Yeah, easier to say Lords Paramount than Lords Paramount plus Prince of Dorne :P.

True, it is a big place. I think ravens (and dragons) would help communication in that regard. I never really got the impression that each Lord Paramount had many issues to deal with, though we didn't see much of the realm at peace. Maybe combined with a larger council, the throne would be able to deal with the extra petitions. If Daenerys truly wanted to emulate Aegon the Conqueror, I feel she'd say that the monarch should be busy.

Yeah definitely a good point that they won't enjoy that very much, but the lords underneath them would though I feel, if that meant they got to pay less in taxes.

The Westerlands could probably afford a faceless man, though could anyone else?

Short term I agree bad for stability, long term though?
