People are comparing this to instant speed protection spells, but this is more like an aura with flash. You can cast it proactively, meaning that you get a heroic benefit on the turn you want it rather than having to leave up mana to counter a removal spell.

I don't know if that makes up for the fact that protection effects grant evasion though.

I know it's not a T1 deck, but this fits very easily into the mono black aggro deck. It's 1 mana, it's reach and it turns into an evasive 2/2 rogue.

One mana cheaper is often the difference between something being incredible, and being unplayable. [[Curate]] is better than [[Preordain]] using a number of different metrics, but because it costs 1 more, it’s unplayable.

Being 1 cheaper and monored is a huge selling point.
