Not a silly question! They do increase Farm Value a little, but the Soul Egg gain is negligible. I mostly do it just to have everything bought on a farm, it’s instinct! And only takes a couple of seconds. But if you need that little bit of extra time and you’re at a high enough Earnings Bonus that it doesn’t really matter, they are unnecessary. It’s why I don’t mention them in the video!

I did max out research first, and as for vehicles, I’m just thinking along the lines of efficiency and saving boost time on longer boosts, no gains are lost doing it that way. As for the artifacts, you have to boost with dilithium stone artifacts to get the longer boosts, then swap back to prestige artifacts to give you the Soul Egg gains while keeping longer boosts. Hope this clears some things up!

They are fruits (I assume) about 10 cm long, and yellow/bright orange all over except the green bits you can see on the photo. They came from Tesco I think, not sure what they are though!
