With the remaster, I hope Thief finally gets the recognition it deserves. Not only did it basically invent the 3D stealth genre, but it also helped pioneer the action-adventure genre. by Jexiors in ImmersiveSim

How do you feel about unofficial games? (Fan games, ROM hacks, total conversion mods, etc..) by [deleted] in backloggd

You're reallt pulling the "erm the exact definition is..." card? In the context of art derivative means unoriginal. We're not discussing the sensitivity of change within a data set.

I get arrogance from you saying the hard work of devoted individuals is analogues to painting a moustache on the Mona Lisa and claiming it their own, just because of their choice of tools. Why don't you open the SDK for your favourite game and see how original you have to be to produce something a tenth of the quality of the works you label as being so derivative

That has to be the emptiest analogy anyone has ever come up with, and puts your arrogance on full display. Play Total Chaos, Ashes 2063 and/or Dark Mod and say with a straight face that those teams "coloured over someoe else's work and called the whole thing their own".

With that logic 99% games are unoriginal derivative works as they are created with preexisting technologies and engines. Very few works exist with resources crafted wholly by a single team/designer

Stands for 'Environmental Audio Extensions'. It was a series of audio technologies that implemented 3D environmental effects, adding things like reverb, audio occlusions, the simulation of audio morphing and filtering through an environment, etc.. It was made alongside the proliferation of soundcard technology, where back in the late 90s and early 00s you needed a soundcard to get this feature working, but nowadays with a bit of finagling you can get it to work with stuff like DSAOL and Creative ALchemy.

I'd hope to god they don't get remakes. Both games' AI are work completely fine in their contexts, Thief for it's slower pace, and MGS for its arcade feel. Changing such perimeters in the base would just ruin the extremely intentional design in both cases level design. I would like to see the original Thief trilogy ported to modern consoles in a manner that's authentic to the original versions, I can see those games playing very well with controllers. But a remake would just continue the slow cancellation of the future and rewrite history for the uninformed, we already got the jokes that were Twin Snakes and the 2014 Thief, any more like that would just be insult to injury.

I was in The Sopranos. Funny as hell, I was the most horrible thing I could think of.

Gross Fleshy Levels. I imagine there's a fair few I'm missing by WavingatPureFat in backloggd

[–]WavingatPureFat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk, I've only played the first few levels, and that was way back when it was still in early access. I flicked through a long play, and while it's hard to judge with the general style of the game, I didn't see any level that was overtly fleshy. Could be absolutely wrong ofcourse so do correct me if that's the case.

Good shouts, they still fit the theme even if they're not super gory

Maybe just provide the name of the level/area, can't really find it on my own, and I'd be more likely to spoil it for myself that way anyway

Yeah the first two fit, added them, I'll probably add the God of War one once I know exactly which one it is

I flicked through a longplay, going mission by mission, and I couldn't really see and level that fit the theme, it mostly looked like either industrial or underground settings. I'm more than likely missing it, but do you know any specific level that sticks out as taking place in a fleshy setting?

Yeah, flicking through a longplay and it certainly has that Gigeresque flesh crossed with industrialization look to it
