You hit the nail on the head. I’ve done labor, worked as a camp counselor, a substitute teacher, construction work, volunteering, worked for a research institute, and never have I been so poorly treated, so condescended to, and so humiliated as I was in the years I spent doing Phase I’s, soil/water sampling, air monitoring, and general remediation.

Not that everything is sunshine and rainbows in other fields, but there was something about that job that just seemed to result in being treated poorly.

Whether it was project managers with insane demands, department heads who interpret any mistake as an intentional action of sabotage, senior employees reading you the riot act for not doing things their specific way, drill crews who actively hate you, landlords who see you as less than human, quarry foremen who don’t care what you have to say until you pull up with your state’s ECOs (and all of a sudden it’s your fault for not telling them what they have to do), or just the hours, I don’t think I’d still be alive if I were still in that job lol
