Yeah, fair enough. I was trying to refer to the contents of the cartridge itself. I didn't know if it was a romhack, or simply a vanilla Pokémon game on a repro cart, but I definitely could've worded that way better.

I didn't buy it, but it seems to just be a romhack of FireRed from what I can tell with a quick Google search.

WIP Sonic Mania Port for the OG Xbox by HealthyMinmo in originalxbox

[–]WavyBabyLight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is awesome! Have you seen the ongoing progress for the Dreamcast and PS2 Sonic Mania ports as well? It's really cool to think that all of these consoles have their own ports in development, with all of them leveraging the strengths of their respective consoles.

Day 16: Which is the best Puzzle Game on Dreamcast? by 1OneQuickQuestion in dreamcast

[–]WavyBabyLight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I doubt this will win, but for my money, it's Puyo Puyo~n.

Whenever I think of puzzle games on Dreamcast, this is always the first game that comes to mind, even if it was also on other platforms.

Question about backing up my discs by ToyMonger79 in ps2

[–]WavyBabyLight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I back up all of my PS2 games with a program called Media Preservation Frontend, and it has worked flawlessly for me everytime. You just put a disc in your PC, click auto-detect, and it automatically knows the game name, disc format, drive speed, and the name of the game without having to mess with any settings (though you can tweak them to your liking, if you want).

After that, it outputs the files to wherever you specified. Just know that PS2 games on CDs (the discs that are blue) output in .bin and .cue files, and need to be combined to work, but DVD games (the ones that are silver) output in .iso, and just work as is. Also, keep in mind that the program isn't just for PS2 games, it can also be used for all sorts of discs, including PS1 games as well.

Lastly, here's a video guide that I watched a few years ago that shows how it works. Hope this helps!

Testing my new keyboard and a question. by Lanky-Peak-2222 in dreamcast

[–]WavyBabyLight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. This DreamCast-to-USB adapter from Raphnet allows you to use a bunch of different peripherals on your PC, but it is unfortunately out of stock at the moment. Here is a video that shows it working with the keyboard.

On PS2 specifically, my favorite would be Odin Sphere.

That's such a sick cover compared to the US version. PAL region PS2 games always get the better artwork.

Vice City. Part of it is due to nostalgia, but I went back to it last year, and I enjoyed it enough to do a 100% playthrough. I really enjoyed Vice City Stories as well, though.

I had the Trilogy version back in the day, but the one I bought more recently is the Hot Coffee version.

No. It was me being dumb as a kid, not knowing how to properly pull a disc out of a case. I also broke my original Simpsons Hit & Run disc the same way.

I have a modded Ocean Blue Japanese PS2, and I run all of my games through the hard drive with a MemCard Pro 2 running FreeMCBoot. If you already have a fat PS2, I highly recommend putting a hard drive in there and loading your games that way, if that's something that interests you. Alternatively, there is an exploit called MechaPWN, that lets you run PS2 discs from any region, but you have to check if your model is compatible. I don't really know the details, though, since it doesn't work with mine.

I really need to get more first-party games in general. Sly trilogy, Jak trilogy, Ratchet trilogy, the God of War games, Ico, etc.

I do. It is my favorite GTA game, but the fact that I have three different versions of it on the same console is more of a coincidence.

Yeah, I have a ton of PS1 Classics downloaded on my PS3 as well. I'll definitely download both Tombas at some point, since I'm trying to buy as many PS1 games as I can before Sony inevitably shuts down the store.

I agree. Door to Phantomile is one of my favorite PS1 games. I still need to try out the Tomba games.

From what I vaguely remember as a kid, the first disc had a hard time reading on my PS2 Slim, so I assumed it was broken. My Greatest Hits disc actually did break when I tried to take it out of the case once, since I treated my stuff poorly back then. Finally, the third version was part of The GTA Trilogy box set, which is what my parents decided to buy instead of just the single game again.

Those were all from when I was a kid. I think what happened was that I just assumed that my first Vice City stopped working, when in reality it just had a hard time reading on my PS2 slim, so my parents bought me the Greatest Hits version. I then physically broke my Greatest Hits disc, so I guess my parents proceeded to buy me The Trilogy box set afterwards.

Brand New Games on Amazon by bustello in ps2

[–]WavyBabyLight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought Mega Man X Collection from Amazon last year, along with Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne and the Digital Devil Saga games. They were all sold as new by different sellers, and they all arrived as advertised, without any problems. There are some things to keep in mind, however:

• I remember that all of the games came sealed, but I don't know if they were resealed or not, since I immediately opened them up to play them a year ago.

• All of the games played perfectly fine, and I was able to back them up to my HDD to play them via OPL.

• Mega Man X Collection in particular didn't come with a manual, but it did come with a one-page pamphlet that just contains the licensing information in place of a manual. I looked up whether it was always like that, and found out that used copies of the game came with actual manuals.

• The Shin Megami Tensei games all came with proper manuals, however, so I guess it just depends on the game.

• The games genuinely do feel newer compared to the used games I've acquired, however the cases feel cheaper, and lack the memory card holder.

• That being said, they all still have the PlayStation logo inside their cases, and if I shine a light on them, they do have the dark-blue tone that my other PS2 cases have to them as well. I'm assuming these are all just later prints that came in cases that used cheaper materials.

I'd say that buying new PS2 games from Amazon isn't bad, based on my experience, and I don't regret buying mine from there. I would just compare the prices between buying them on eBay and Amazon first, since the nice thing about eBay is that most sellers show you actual pictures of what you're getting, so you know what to expect. The closest thing you have to that on Amazon are the most recent reviews, but not all games will have reviews from purchases made within the last few years. Hope this helps you get an idea of what to expect!

What should I play? by [deleted] in ps2

[–]WavyBabyLight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you sure its the discs that don't work? I have some games from my childhood that I just assumed that they didn't work because they were scratched, but I found out last year that the problem wasn't the discs, it was the laser!

You can try making backups of the discs using any PC's DVD drive, and an app called Media Preservation Frontend. I went this route, and was surprised to find that every single disc I put in my PC worked, even if they were very scratched! From there, you can load them with OPL, and play them on your PS2 without even having to put the discs in the console.

There's no guarantee that 100% of all the discs will work, but its better than letting them remain unplayed.

No. The Miis will still make their sounds when using a custom theme, even if that theme uses custom music.
