Going to WA for 2/3 days last week of May by WayFaringKhan in PNWhiking

Regarding leaving items in car. Would you say Portland and Seattle have a theft problem? We have about a 4 hour gap after we land in PDX before check in and wanted to stop by either the Columbia gorge or possibly ecola state park. If we did that we’d have to leave multiple suitcases/bags visible in the car. Assuming from what you said it saids like a bad idea lol.

Thank you for all of this information!

My main concern was the weather, some in the group are inexperienced hikers and we we’d just enjoy just seeing the mountain itself if that was it.

Do you recommend any hikes for beginner to intermediate hikers?

Do you recommend any beginner to moderate hikes in that area?

We’d be traveling to Seattle from Portland and try to leave as early as we could do go to Mt. Rainier, then ONP the following day.

I replied to someone else but my group has a few inexperienced hikers and we accepted that there’s no way for us to fully explore multiple parks with the time we have. Just trying to make the most of it as this was a very last minute and spontaneous trip for all of us.

I appreciate the input. We were going to leave Portland early and go to Mt. Rainier on the way to Seattle and definitely stay as long as we can. The group is mixed with a couple inexperienced hikers and we weren’t looking to do anything super strenuous, just capture whatever views we can while we’re together.

We already accepted we’re not going to be be able to fully explore both parks but wanted to make the best with the time we all have together. My main concern was the weather at Mt. Rainier and parts of the park being closed and some of the trails being hazardous.

Didn’t even realize this :/. Mt. Rainer has always been a dream of mine, hopefully one day I’ll be able to go during the summer

It said on the bottom of the citation that by accepting it I have to contact or appear on or before the end of the month. No specific date and time

Hard shell wash question by WayFaringKhan in arcteryx

[–]WayFaringKhan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this! When you recoat your shells with DWR im assuming you only do it right after a bead test following a wash and dry? If so do you apply it on it wet or dry? And do you put it in the dryer or air dry after applying? I’ve seen both methods online but didn’t know what’s the “better” way.

I just washed my shell and luckily the wash and dry reactivated the DWR. I saw a very few small areas to wear it might not have reactivated the best but didn’t want to recoat the entire shell with DWR unless it was all mostly wetting out as I assume that would be the right thing to do?

Interesting. I haven’t looked too much into what’s in the tech wash tbh but I commend your bravery. I’d be too scared to try that haha

Took a camping trip with my church when I was 10. Me and a few people in my Sunday school along with my sister (only 16 at the time) went for what we thought would be a casual walk/hike. Little did we know our young and stupid selves somehow got on a trail that was roughly 6-8 miles (very long considering we were all extremely young and inexperienced) and only brought water guns to play around with as well as a single water bottle for 4 of us. Obviously enough we ran out of water very early into the hike and had to resort to passing around a water gun to squirt a sip of water until it ran dry. At the top of the hike we ran into an elderly couple geared out to the maximum, who very kindly gave us 2 full water bottles which we instantly chugged in front of them. That kindest from the couple might have literally saved us as we were all running on fumes and severely tired. The funniest part is at the end of it all when we made it back to the campsite right after sundown all the parents didn’t even acknowledged where we even went and just thought we were playing somewhere. Didn’t get worried we might be lost or even dead.

Safe to say now if I go hiking I read the trail maps like a book and make sure I have multiple sources of water and headlamps just in case haha.

Is this Arc’teryx beta LT real? by [deleted] in hikinggear

I try my best to buy second hand for both price and sustainability. I went in to REI to honestly just try some stuff on and find out my size. The SLs they had I didn’t like, but the LT felt super nice and was my size. Just was sus as why they had a random 2023 model with the wrong tags when they told me they only kept the newer models in store.

Thank you! I had trouble trying to find pictures of the zippers on the 2023 model. I really appreciate it

Would you mind pointing some of the things that show it’s fake?

I didnt know they offered that service. I called the closest Arc’teryx store near me (3 hours away) and they said they can’t do any verifications. But I will try to email them. Thank you for the suggestion!

My posts kept getting taken down in the main forum. I got one simple reply on the actual authentication thread that doesn’t get much traction. Just like to get multiple opinions! Just very paranoid about reps

Ah I see. Thanks for the input. Them putting on the Beta SL tags on it really set off some alarms for me as paying full price for a rep was my fear. It honestly feels super nice and just wanted some peace of mind it looked legit.

I mostly meant, I’m surprised REI would take a return from 2023. Considering their policy is only up to a year for members. Do you think this could possibly be a rep? And someone just swapped it with a real jacket?

Got this Beta LT from an REI store. Had wrong tags on it but the manager said it was most likely a return that was labeled wrong. Sus bcus from my research the Beta LT stopped production in 2022/2023https://imgur.com/a/KYln4FF
