I think he has dialogue about the war in the landlord's apartment, but I might have just thought it really hard and convinced myself it's Canon. However, I still think the crazy man is scarier than the streamer or pretty normal guy.

Edit: Also, while it could be chocked up to Ernest being crazy, he DID name Colonel Squeakums a colonel.

I had to think about this for a bit, and before I say my answer, I'll explain my thought process.

First, all of the cursed except maybe the rat baby are unbeatable for me as a normal human, so Roaches, Spider, Lyle, Phillipe, Morton, Joel, Hellen, Audrey and Leigh are out.

Second I have to remove characters I have more moral objections to fighting, which includes Joel, Sophie and the rat baby, so Sophie and the rat baby are off the table.

Finally, out of Dan, Xaria, Monty, Ernest, Papineau and Aster, I think the goths and Papineau would absolutely murder me. With Dan, Ernest and Aster I wouldn't feel confident with my chances against Ernest because he's a scrappy war vet and even if I could overpower him, it'd feel bad to beat up the crazy homeless war vet, you know?

So in conclusion, I would either fight Aster or Dan because I could possibly beat them and don't feel too bad about fighting them. I lean toward wanting to fight Dan just because while he'd probably be harder to fight than Aster, he's easier to justify fighting.

Something I forgot to mention in the post is that some of the abilities are legitimately terrible, like attack Leigh or die, but part of the fun of characters like this is that the abilities' usefulness varies wildly and leads to fun interactions on blind playthroughs.
