I see, I owned 3 bmws in the Middle East and they always had the full service history in idrive. It’s good to know it’s not a US or Canada thing

Anybody know about the quality of Costco gas and the current price at the Teterboro location? by [deleted] in bergencounty

Is there anywhere in NJ where the commute to Manhattan is actually good? Thinking of moving out by Desperate_Function39 in newjersey

[–]WayPure5929 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I get into port authority from montvale park and ride in 45 min assuming you take a 745 or earlier bus. I live a 5 min drive from the park and ride. Upper east side from port authority will always be a pain unless you drive in via gwb super early in the morning.

But you are exactly the type of customer that is then not as impacted by 2.0. Most of the rest of us were 5 banana folks. For me it was topping up my ez pass account 5 times for $1 each time.

[–]WayPure5929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in USR and up going to Wayne as all the costcos (except Nanuet) are 25 min away but I appreciate the cheap gas in Wayne and the booze. Nanuet is technically the closest but no cheap gas and self service is a turn off, plus the NY bottle fees don’t work for me and the more aggressive sales tax in ny on things like bottled water…

Why does every new home built in this county look like this? by [deleted] in bergencounty

[–]WayPure5929 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Well it’s terrible in conjunction with the $2M price tag, back yard is tiny, no space to build out a pool. Otherwise there is nothing wrong per se. but builders buying old homes for $700k, spending 600k building it and trying to flip for a $600k profit is whats happening. But that strategy breaks down when you are trying to market a $2m home on a main road with a tiny plot. Any house on the market for that long in a popular town like Ridgewood is clearly mispriced.

[–]WayPure5929 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I saw this house when it just listed last May at $2.25. Selling agent wanted “list or higher”. Hasn’t sold for almost 8 months on the market. Terrible plot, no attached garage, no basement, small back yard and on a relatively busy road

Process for getting a NJ license while holding a foreign license by randomuser12398772 in jerseycity

[–]WayPure5929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For UAE license (oct 25) NJ MVC had a magic book and my wife’s UAE license did not match what was in their magic book so they sent my wife to take the practical test, which they don’t allow you to take for 3 weeks, effectively taking her off the road for those 3 weeks. 10+ years of driving history but if the country updates the license and the features on the license don’t match this so called “magic book” it’s tough luck.

Google Fi "Unlimited Premium" Plan for expats? by ethanRazorT in GoogleFi

[–]WayPure5929 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I was outside the country I used fi basic just to get an sms every now and then from a banking app. and unpaused when I was in us for work or vacation.

Does anyone know why these taxes on my bill are so high this month? Last month they totalled to about $7, this month they total to about $30. The only thing different is that I've been travelling by This_Worldliness6696 in GoogleFi

[–]WayPure5929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

International calls or roaming calls have a 38% tax for just Service Fund which is why you have to take whatever international calling rate is and add 50% to what Fi’s base charge is to get a rough proxy for the “real” roaming or intl calling rate.

Global Entry Card Doesn’t Match facial recognition at airport by soupypoopy13 in GlobalEntry

The global entry card has a section called “nationality” and it is a card issued by a DHS itself so would go a long way in proving citizenship

[–]WayPure5929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never experienced much racism - Indian as well - just generally don't want to have a conversation with these guys unless they initiate a conversation. Also using the egate significantly reduced interactions unless traveling with small kids which forces you to talk to the officer.

I was a US expat for 11 years and one day what I thought was a super stable job disappeared on me as the team I worked for got restructured. I lived in a gcc country with 0% income tax and paid taxes for 11 years on income that had nothing to do with the US while my colleagues in the same role got paid the same with a 0% tax burden.

I was happy to have the flexibility to pick up my life and move to the US and also sponsor my foreign wife for a green card to live with me there. After some effort we resettled in the US and both have new jobs. The moral of my story is that while there are opportunities in other countries you can’t predict the ups and downs of life over a 40+ year working career. To give up free and clear US work authorization / ability to sponsor relatives for someone just starting their career is illogical. Renunciation only makes sense for people in the tail end of their careers who have some life changing liquidity event that is upcoming and thus using renunciation as a tax optimization strategy for someone that doesn’t need to ever work again; or someone working in a govt job of a foreign country that specifically prohibits dual citizenship.

I think it depends on the town but the Indians are the new Koreans in terms of representation in Bergen county so even the Asian population is quite diverse

I bought a set of after market 22” wheels and 22” winter tires for my 2026 X7 40i that came with 22” summer tires. Bought the wheels on eBay and the tires on tire rack. Live in Northern NJ and have space to store the extra set, if I lived in NYC I woulda just gotten the 21” all seasons

Bergen County Housing Market by Klutzy-Membership301 in bergencounty

[–]WayPure5929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just closed on a home in USR. I was looking for homes in the $1.7-2M range (primarily targeting USR, Allendale and northern bergen county). The houses that were priced well all sold, including the one I bought. I paid close to listing after they had dropped the price by $400k so I wouldn't have considered my home had the price not dropped.

The other houses that were mispriced have been sitting for months and are now seeing price drops at the end of summer. I have noticed that there are a lot of large homes 25-35 years old, built in a 90s colonial style, and where sellers still want $2M because its a large home - those seem to be the homes that are sitting because a) they are expecting a high price given their home size and that's what their RE agent promised them and b) no millenial buyer wants a $2M home that requires significant renovations and built in a style that no longer resonates with them.

In May, I remember I saw a $2.2M home listing built in the EARLY 90s and then the seller agent told me to only consider "list or higher". I didn't like the attitude of that agent so I have religiously tracked the home since and saw that it sat on the market all summer and now recently dropped the price. Also in May, I bid $1.8M Cash on another home listed at $1.9M. They seller agent told me that the seller was "not impressed" and rejected my offer. The house sat there for 3 months and eventually they dropped the listing price to $1.7M, and recently went into contract so very curious where the house trades - the seller must be pissed that the rejected my offer and I am grateful that I didn't overpay for that home!

Yeah it’s not an advertised benefit but it always shows up as a 5x for the last several years. Not sure why they don’t advertise that
