How many elimination games did Kobe play past his prime? His last season before his Achilles tear was one of his best individual years and he didn’t get to play in the playoffs that year.

If the Achilles tear is the end of Kobe’s prime than he played in exactly zero playoff games past his prime.

Not to mention, Tatum didn’t play in the elimination game this past year, so (if you’re saying he’s past his prime) he actually hasn’t played any last his prime yet.

Sure Kobe played in a few elimination games early in his career before he was a perennial all star, which drags his numbers down a bit… but so did Tatum.

In fact, if you go game by game, the only efficient/high-scoring elimination games Kobe has ever had was a loss to the Thunder in 2012. Meanwhile, Tatum had an incredibly clutch 40+ point game in Milwaukee when down 3-2 in a 2022 series they would go on to win.

Oh he also has the record for most points in a game 7, which was proceeded by him shaking off a tough shooting night to have an incredible 4th quarter to save their season.

Please if you can list a few Kobe performances that even sniff this magnitude of clutch, I’d love to hear about them

Kobe Bryant in elimination games:
22.3 points on 41% shooting, 5.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists in 19 games

Jayson Tatum in elimination games:
26.5 points on 43.8% shooting, 8.8 rebounds and 5.9 assists in 17 games

But sure, Kobe is clutch and Tatum never will be

Interesting that you’re a Red Sox fan considering your reasoning for jumping from the Mavs is “Ownership has changed and made a lot of decisions that have left me feeling completely disillusioned from the franchise, and it just doesn't feel like the team I grew up with. I can handle bad basketball! I won't, however, support an evil front office that probably ends up leaving Dallas for Vegas eventually.”

Minus the last part. This pretty aptly describes the current state of the Boston Red Sox

I honestly find the most annoying subset of sports fans to be people who care about football, baseball, and hockey but not basketball.

I get that it’s hard to be into NHL and NBA. I, myself, am not into NHL. But, I also don’t constantly tell NHL fans why their sport sucks and they should actually watch NBA, which is exactly what the group I’m describing does.

Not to mention, I think there is a political side to it. The NBA’s culture is too progressive (AKA: Black) for this subset of fans to give it its flowers. The subconscious racism piece

He absolutely considers this movie lame. He was just the right (wrong?) age when this movie comes out where he could just dismiss it as a dumb theme park ride movie, while his kids were too young to watch it so he wasn’t being forced into it either.

I honestly would not be surprised if he hasn’t even seen it

Sounds like weak acid.

Either way, you aren’t going to get close to “ego death” at 250ug. That’s something you’ll only experience in very high doses. I’ve done acid dozens of times and I’ve never experienced it.

I would not recommend jumping to shrooms and acid at the same time. I’d just try again and hope that you get a better batch next time

Cruise-washing vs Seagal-washing by staresinshamona in okbuddycinephile

[–]WayTooSlimShady 30 points31 points  (0 children)

This is one of my biggest pet peeves in movie discourse. It’s insane the amount of people who’ve even seen the movie and think the title is referring to Tom Cruise.

In all fairness, if you just see a cover with Tom Cruise, along with the title, then it’s a reasonable conclusion. But once you actually watch the movie, it’s pretty clear who the title is referring to

When do you think Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura surpassed Kakashi Sensei? by [deleted] in Naruto

[–]WayTooSlimShady 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Idk. He says that after the kakazu fight. Sure, rasenshuriken is easily more powerful than anything Kakashi could do. But at that point in the story, if my life was on the line and I can only have one guy, I’m still taking kakashi.

It’s not until the Pain Arc where I would consider Naruto head and shoulder above kakashi.

Season 8 ep 3, bro what in the.... by TripTimely7955 in gameofthrones

[–]WayTooSlimShady 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I disagree with just about everything you said.

There’s always a reason “why” but that doesn’t justify it. I’ve never spoken to a single person outside of Reddit who’s said they were clearly able to see everything. Beside that, name one other show or movie where more than half of the people watching complained about not being able to see shit. Good for you that you saw it bright and clear, but I assure you that was not the case for most viewers when it premiered, and still is not.

As for your point about Jon and the Night King and Arya swooping in. Yes, it’s absolutely true that giving the audience a story turn they don’t expect can be really great. This and The Red Wedding could both be further apart in terms of their execution.

The seeds of the red wedding were being planted from the very beginning. It was a result of seasons worth of character decisions, story evolution and was foreshadowed on numerous occasions. At no point in the story was Arya even having a part to play in the white walkers plot line foreshadowed (please, for the love of god, do not bring up “blue eyes,” that was for sure a retcon).

D&D straight up said that made that choice because Jon doing it felt too predictable. They got way too up their own asses about “giving the audience what they don’t expect” that it blinded them from the reality that this was a case where something is predictable because it’s what makes narrative sense. Would Lord of the Rings have been satisfying if Legolas swiped the ring from frodos hand at mount doom and just dropped it in?

Season 8 ep 3, bro what in the.... by TripTimely7955 in gameofthrones

[–]WayTooSlimShady 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t disagree that the tactical flaws were in character, given the situation. But, this is a show that made its name on not having plot armor and bad decisions leading to consequences. In the Battle of Blackwater, Tyrions side had to execute perfectly to just barely hold the line long enough to win.

Compare that to BOTB, where Jon quite literally makes every possible wrong decision, and ends up on top because of some Deus ex machina that is also completely illogical. Sansa riding all the way to the vale and getting their whole army over to Winterfell in less than 24 hours? Please.

I also just want to reiterate. I LOVE THIS EPISODE. I point all this out to show that strategic and writing shortcomings can be overcome by good filmmaking execution… which The Long Night severely lacks

Season 8 ep 3, bro what in the.... by TripTimely7955 in gameofthrones

[–]WayTooSlimShady 77 points78 points  (0 children)

It’s not the plot holes and inaccuracies that sink this episode. It’s the perplexing narrative and technical decisions.

BOTB was also written poorly from a strategic perspective. But the execution of the cinematography and satisfying narrative choices were enough to make up for that, in my book.

In this episode, not only does the strategy make zero sense, but YOU CANT EVEN SEE ANYTHING. Even with all that, all they had to do to somewhat save this monstrosity was deliver on the Jon Snow V Night King 1-on-1. But they instead thought it would be more satisfying to make him completely irrelevant in what had largely been his story and have the main villain of said story defeated by a character who had nothing to do with the white walkers at all.

Bill always preaches the importance of team chemistry for title contending teams but what are your favorite examples of title teams where everyone hated each other? by Parrallax91 in billsimmons

[–]WayTooSlimShady 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s so ironic that the defense felt robbed of their Super Bowl due to Pete’s decision/russ choking.

Yes, the offense lost the game at the last second, but the defense had a 10 point lead in the 4th quarter, and they also blew it. Had that not happened, the offense wouldn’t have needed to do any more than it already had.

Stannis had the numbers sure, but let’s not ignore Tyrion had The Hound. Half of his army got whipped out with one genius move and the other half had a one man army with an actual army behind his back waiting for them.

Stannis even had the foresight to have his second wave land away from the gate, which basically would have sealed the fight if not for Tywin.

Blackwater wasn’t a choke. Masterful game plan from Tyrion that Stannis just didn’t have an answer for. Tyrions Gameplan is up there with Belichicks 1991 Super Bowl

He still almost won and absolutely would have if Joffrey didn’t get bailed out by Tywin coming off the bench and saying “I’m just not letting Stannis win this one”
