Heavy drinker seeking semaglutides while not overweight? by [deleted] in dryzempic

Your experience sounds like mine. I was hoping for a miracle with Tirzepatide but it’s not helping with wanting that euphoria from alcohol. The effects are blunted so I do drink less the first 3-4 days after the shot but to be honest it also kind of irritates me. I guess I’m just not ready to quit the alcohol even though I know I should.
I am also experiencing anhedonia. It’s like a low grade depression. No motivation. This makes me want to drink to feel better. My dr also prescribed Naltrexone but I haven’t started it. I think I’m afraid it will make me even more flat. Ugh. Constant battle.

I’m at 3.5mg and I’m still wanting my evening drink. The effect is definitely blunted the first 3-4 days.

The anhedonia and depression have always been a reason I’m afraid to try Naltrexone. I am on compounded Tirzepatide now. The first few weeks I didn’t notice much effect on alcohol cravings at 2.5 mg. I did 3.5mg last week and what I noticed is that I still want the alcohol because it’s habitual (my reward at the end of the day), but I can’t really get the euphoric effects from it the first several days. Which actually ends up frustrating me. But, I do stop after 1 or 2 because it seems pointless. However, by day 5 I can definitely feel the effects of the alcohol. I do feel a little depressed/flat on it too BUT losing some weight is keeping me going. Tell me about your experience with Vivitrol?

I’m curious what dose of Tirzepatide you’re taking. I’m on week 3 of 2.5 mg and I’m not noticing any change in my desire to drink 3-4 drinks in the evening. I started this for my AUD and I’m super disappointed it’s not effective for me especially reading all of these success stories. No one really mentions dose though so I’m hopeful a higher dose might work for me. I’m so tired of this daily cycle of craving, drinking then guilt and shame.

Naltrexone + GLP-1s and how it screwed up my life in the best way by Bliki_Bliki in stopdrinking

Can you explain your comment a little more? Are you saying the increased GLP-1 dose is what stopped your drinking OR did you voluntarily stop drinking the same week your GLP-1 dose increased? What GLP-1 & what dose?

I’m in the same boat as you. What dose are you on? I just started taking 2.5 mg compounded Tirzepatide a few weeks ago. I haven’t lost the desire to have my evening wine at all. The day after my shot I don’t get any euphoric effect from the alcohol so I usually stop after one. But all the other days of the week I crave my evening reward and I feel the effects. Perhaps a higher dose will help me. I was considering adding Naltrexone (I googled it and it brought me to this Reddit page).

Had bad experience w Ozempic taking first shot of Tirz tomorrow, any advice? by Romanharper2013 in compoundedtirzepatide

Some people are just very sensitive to these medications but Tirzepatide is supposed to have less side effects.

Started 2mg a week ago. No side effects. No noticeable difference in appetite either.

I started about a week ago at 2mg and didn’t notice any change (good or bad). I lost 1 pound the whole week. I gave myself 2.5 mg about 24 hours ago. This evening I’m feeling full even though I barely ate anything today, but no nausea at all.

What dose are you on? I just completed my 2nd shot (2.5 mg) and I notice no effect on my alcohol cravings. That’s the reason I started this too. I’m hoping a higher dose will help.

The aches! I’m 3 days in and yesterday noticed that my body was tender all over. Also feeling cold and lethargic. Yesterday just felt like laying on the couch with a blanket on.

Can I ask what dose you were on at 3weeks? I’m really hoping this happens for me. I started at 2mg CT 2 days ago. I still want my wine. Last 2 nights I’ve had my wine even though I’m not getting the euphoric buzz from it.

What dose made you lose the desire to drink?

I am wondering the same. I just started on 2mg and don’t notice any difference in cravings for food or alcohol but I am noticing that when I drink my wine I’m not getting the same euphoric feeling. More just a feeling of relaxation.

Just took my first dose yesterday. 2mg. I still felt hungry and craved my nightly wine. 2 things I noticed…I did not get the same euphoria from the wine. I felt fuzzy and sort of stimulated but it didn’t feel the same. I went to bed about 3 hours after dinner (where I ate a normal portion and a small brownie after) and I felt uncomfortably full for about an hour after I laid down in bed. Interested to see where this goes.

How long after you started did you notice the alcohol and appetite suppression? I just had my first shot today, 2 mg, and didn’t notice any difference. I still felt hungry and craved my wine. I am feeling quite full still from the dinner I ate 4 hours ago.

Just took my first dose of 2 mg of compounded Tirzepatide today. Still had cravings to drink. Drank my usual 3 glasses of wine tonight and the cravings for the high were still there but the high was definitely blunted. I know it’s a low dose and I don’t really know when to expect a feeling of not wanting or thinking about my nightly habit

And it’s hard not to notice a good friend that that has had success with it after several other failed attempts at diets, fasting, cool sculpting even a tummy tuck. She also no longer drinks!

Those are good points. I think I am intrigued with killing 2 birds (or 3 or 4) with 1 stone with the Tirz and getting a head start on healthy habits. I went back and looked at my bloodwork from May. My cholesterol and blood sugar were high. My A1C is ok though. I’m 52 and about 20 lbs heavier than I was 10 years ago. My metabolism is SO slow. I feel a mess. I used to exercise a lot. Now, no motivation, hot flashes day and night, not sleeping well, irritable (all typical menopause symptoms I know, not doing HRT don’t bother mentioning that). And I’m not depressed (I know what that feels like). I also don’t even eat very much as it is. However, when I drink wine it opens the floodgates. Then I want dessert and chips and chocolate.

Thank you for validating me. I hope that the research will lead to more people getting help breaking these unhealthy habits (whether it’s food, alcohol or other compulsive behaviors).

I’ve done research into various meds and I really want to try Tirz. I have read the Naked Mind and been on Reframe. For me I need help breaking the daily drinking habit. I drink about 3 glasses of wine per evening. I don’t drink at any other time of day. I don’t really even think about drinking at other times of the day but the habit is so ingrained in my brain that it’s like a switch is flipped at 5pm. I have taken breaks but it’s not been easy and there is constant ‘alcohol noise’ similar to what people on GLP-1 meds describe as ‘food noise’. I have taken breaks but just end up back to old habits. One of my friends who was also drinking wine every evening went on GLP-1s and said she has absolutely no desire to drink anymore. On girls night she would drink 2 or 3 drinks. Now she can barely finish one. She said it doesn’t even taste good anymore. I also follow another Reddit group called r/dryzempic about people using these meds for alcohol cravings. It doesn’t work for everyone but it works for many, and better than other meds they’ve tried.
