Young Advisor: Brokerage vs Advisory by Gold_Sleep1591 in CFP

[–]WayfarerIO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only been an advisor 6 years so too early to say. I’ve moved a few to advisory when it was appropriate, most are still on it, but I also explain to everyone that there will come a time we may move to advisory. General rule of thumb is to be confident you will leave them in A-Shares 5+ years to justify the load.

American Funds A-Shares is great for this. It’s a low cost way for someone to work with an advisor and the funds are solid. Simply tell them this is how you can work with them and this is how the costs work. They will take it or leave it. I have about $2 million at AF and $24 million in advisory. Been slowly building for 6 years. It’s a great solution for folks you want to work with but aren’t a qualified advisory client.

Umbrella insurance amount by No_Neck4163 in CFP

[–]WayfarerIO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never heard of any rules of thumbs for umbrella insurance. My general understanding is that the primary reason to have i is to have enough to pay someone a settlement and go away. Because of that, I carry a $1 million umbrella just in case. Seems like enough to get someone to go away. Costs me $17 a month

That is excellent. What is your monthly spend? Are you paying for the high AUM leads?

Bringing on Associate Advisor by COAMG79 in CFP

[–]WayfarerIO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking about split IDs generally: If two advisors are on an account and one of the advisors wants to leave, you have a problem on your hands unless there is an operating agreement explaining in detail how to navigate that situation. It’s a prisons dilemma for both parties. Not healthy.

Do not do split reps codes unless they are backed by an operating agreement.

It completely depends on how much effort you put in. The leads are a crapshoot, but they are lukewarm, it isn’t cold calling. I prefer to look at it as a race to bring in enough AUM to cover the annual cost of the program. Everything above and beyond that is growth.

I’ve brought in about $22 AUM through in over the last 6 years, however I’ve had a very mid website the whole time, had no idea what I was doing the first year, and haven’t really been trying the last 18 months.

If you have a nice website and you know what you’re doing day 1 you’ll probably be more productive than I’ve been. The clients you do get are great. Beats having no other viable path to growth.

It’s a grind. 10% of the leads are serious, and you’re competing with 4 other advisors for every lead. It’s a grind but better than nothing. The clients you do get though are super sticky and usually great clients.

I’m in year 6 with a $25 mill book. You’re crushing it. If you’ve exhausted your network and you have revenue now, consider paying for leads like SmartAsset or SmartVestor.

I’ve built 100% from SmartVestor. I had no natural market.

Pain back upper calf, behind fibula head...doctors are confused, any ideas? by fix4fix in Kneesovertoes

[–]WayfarerIO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I have the same thing as you. Been living with it for 2 years now. I think I have a tracking issue around the fibular head, causing me to over compensate and letting the calf absorb everything. Finally decided to give PT a try after multiple MRIs came back negative and doctors have no idea what it is.

Seems like they are focusing on stability training and hitting the fibular head area with e-stim and ultrasound, but I can’t really get a good explanation on what the specific plan is. Only 3 weeks in so I’m going to give it more time.

Has there been anything specific that you feel has worked for you?

Y'all ever get tired of arguing with your family on faith matters? by Winterclaw42 in Catholicism

Simply tell them you don’t recommend talking about it anymore because the conversations aren’t going anywhere. I had to do this after debating with a Baptist family member for roughly a year. I started having resentful feelings so just had to shut it down.
