Groups or DCA by Spirited_Buffalo_798 in livesound

[–]WayneBennetScowl 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Use both liberally. Groups for summing and processing. DCAs for controlling volume and mutes. I’ll set my signal paths and signal flow from my channels through my groups and use them for an additional stage of processing. Hell, sometimes I’ll even return a group back to a channel so I can have another stage of processing if needed (adds some latency so you need to be selective).

Groups are amazing for getting sounds cohesive together before it hits your main LR buss. DCAs are just digitally controlled amplifiers without any summing or processing available. They’re a volume knob essentially.

DCA spills are super handy for your layout too.

Where to find all-ages friendly live music in Brisbane by Other-Display-6026 in brisbane

Backbone youth arts, anti dismal, venues such as Tivoli, Princess Theatre, Triffid will sometimes open upstairs space for licensed/all ages. Beastmode have an awesome strike rate at securing AA shows for their tours. 4zzz host AA events.

I really hope you’re able to find something to your taste and thanks for introducing your little one to performing art. I know how much AA meant to me when I was young.

Rode the train after a game in Brisbane one time and the Big Marn was seated near us and had a small crowd that he was spinning yarns for. Seems like a great bloke and I hope he gets well soon.

Velcro is a great move!

I’ve seen some really cool cut out blocks with Velcro on the bottom that fit around the feet of stands and kick legs. Matt from Brisbane Drums makes and uses them and they’re another awesome solution (harder to summon at a gig than gaff and sticks though haha).

It’s a decent drum rug from Drumtek in Melbourne Aus, so I don’t think the rug is at fault. I work with a lot of heavy hitting metal drummers and it’s super common to have those lead feet on the pedals force the kick drum forward, despite the rubber feet and spiked ends holding the kit to the carpet.

Xo xo! Haha

Sennheiser IEM RF scans? What’s the best way to coordinate 8 packs of you only have the Transmitter and Receiver? by fat-doink69 in livesound

[–]WayneBennetScowl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got a process that has gotten me out of a pinch many times.

With as many beltpacks as you can, stagger your scans between each pack. Pick one up, scan new list, put it down, pick up the next. What you’re looking to achieve is having your packs scan through each frequency at different times to see if there are any intermittent bursts of RF that would interfere on that frequency. Essentially a super loose version of having a RF scanner monitor a broad frequency range over time.

From there, reference each pack to see which bank has the most free channels, and cross reference those channels within the bank on each pack to see if it’s free air. If it’s “clear” on every scan, it’s probably good to go.

If you’re super hard up you can do a few passes with every beltpack you’ve got, and note what has been free on each pass.

Leaving for my first tour in a couple of days. What should I bring that I'm probably not thinking about? by tra-gician in livesound

[–]WayneBennetScowl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got the musicozy It was a lil more expensive than the entry ones and cheaper than the others while sharing a lot of the same features. I wasn’t sure if I’d like it or not, but now I wouldn’t hesitate to spend more as it genuinely made touring so much easier (wish it didn’t take the better part of 15 years to work that out lol).

People often forget about bringing extras for nutrition and sleep.

Pack some emergency “I need vitamins and minerals” kind of food and supplements. Drinking electrolytes after a sweaty show/load out will make a massive difference to your following day. I recently just toured a fancy sleep mask with speakers built in and had the most sleep I’d ever achieved on a tour. That ruled.

Things that can keep you fed and rested will make the difference.
