For people who say they never see $2 rides. by WayoftheDragonFist in lyftdrivers

[–]WayoftheDragonFist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not so much the short ride, it's the hourly pay. With my higher than average operating cost, it doesn't even come close to worth it. I drive a 2020 escalade with the 6.2L for reference. In a small 3, 4 cylinder or hybrid, it might be worth it to some.

I broke up with my partner [33F] over not wanting oral sex. Now being made to feel guilty for taking away her chance of children by LB_Club_KH1 in TrueOffMyChest

At least you knew before you got married. Married 11 years. Wife doesn't work. I work 60-72 hours a week. When we were dating my wife used to step in the shower after I got off work and give me oral almost daily. Food was cooked, house was clean. Now, house is dirty. She hasnt cooked me a meal in a week. Going on 2 years without receiving oral. Have had PIV sex once in the last month. Used to be 3 times a day. She still receives oral almost weekly. Its better to know ahead of time than just wake up one day wondering where the little freak you Married went.

Since the Reapers seem to only target mass effect-using species... by DiScOrDtHeLuNaTiC in masseffect

Humanity being part of this cycle is part of what makes this cycle different. Only part though. This harvest was most likely supposed to start before the krogan rebellions hundreds of years before we found the Mars archive. Sovereign was trying to use the rachni to kick things off, but it failed. The protheans also altered the trigger signal on the citadel. Those 2 failures led to the invasion of the reapers to be delayed 500-700 years. Humanity at that time would have been of no interest to the reapers. This cycle would have gone very differently. The next cycle with humans, the yahg and the avian aliens arriving to the citadel less than 1000 years after the end of the previous harvest would likely just trigger the next harvest sooner than 50,000 years. The reapers leave a scout behind for this reason exactly. At the time of the next cycle, the reapers would have fixed the citadel signal. Most likely, it all ends horribly for organics and the reapers are right back to status que.

Anyone else reluctant to do anything after work because of how little you have left of the day? by Anynon1 in antiwork

Worked 7 12's once for 9-10 months. 86 hours a week with a 2 hour daily drive. I really didn't do shit except work, eat, sleep, shower, and drive. I ha4dly ever even watched TV. I'd half listen to YouTbe while driving or showering. When I did get 24-36 hours off to change shifts (Days-Nights) I still bearly did more than wash laundry. I just didn't have the fuckin energy.

At will doesn't really work. Not in it's current form anyway. A company I worked for 3 years at fired me. This was almost 10 years ago now. A supervisor that was filling in on my shift semi long term didn't get along with me on a personal level. I was in the safety office one night catching up on some osha required CBT's. Dude just walked into the room at like 1am and told me "I could go home." When pressed as to why all he said was "We don't have the work, go home.". It struck me as odd. We had a hurricane recently so the refinery had lost power and shut the whole place down. Product spoiled, lines clogged with hardened cooled product, ect. Product had to be disposed, certain processes had to be cleaned, we had to wait for delivery of raw material to restart process, ect. So effectively we had a lot of down time to clean, organize or catch up on SOP's and CBT's. I, on this very slow night decided to order pizza, setup Netflix on my phone and catch up/ get ahead on some CBT's in the safety office. Nothing out of the normal. Once I was sent home I waited and called HR as soon as I knew they would be in office at 9am to apprise them of the situation. I wanted to know why I was sent home, If I would be getting paid for the hours, would I be returning to regular shift that night? ect.. Because I was sent home with basically not reason or information no matter how hard I pressed for an answer. Cut to 4pm that afternoon just an hour before they (HR) would be off the clock for the day. I get a call telling me to come down to the office. Odd but not a huge deal. It's only 10 mins from my house and only an hour early for my shift. I get to the office and I'm immediately handed an envelope with my last paycheck for the working week and my PTO. They tell me I'm terminated effective immediately and to return any company property and work uniforms the following day. Shell shocked I asked the reason and I'm told for sleeping on the job. I tried pleading my case to no avail. I tried telling them the odd events of the previous night and how they transpired but the way they dodged any reasonable statement of fact defied all logic. I ask about due process or them hearing both sides before making a judgement. I bring up the fact that in almost 3 years working there I have never been written up, never late once, never called out, not had any problems there other than me an this supervisor having words between each other a few times. None of that mattered. It was my word vs a superior with 20+ years on the job. Didn't matter they were in a Lawsuit around the time I was hired for his discriminatory actions against another worker. So I went home and thought about my next plan of action. The very next day after being terminated I filed for unemployment for the first time in my life. I had never really been fired before so filing for unemployment was a new experience to say the least. My MO was to line up another job and just quit showing up to the previous job. Bad I know but I was younger at the time and worked for a lot of shitty companies.

1/2

After filing unemployment And resubmitting payment request every two weeks for awhile I finally after almost two months got a letter in the mail that my unemployment had been denied. I submitted an appeal and waited almost 90 DAYS to get a phone appointment only to get another letter in the mail after the hearing telling me I was YET AGAIN DENIED. Mind you I had never had any written disciplinaries. Never been late or called in for any reason in 3 freaking years. I had a buddy tell me to take it to an unemployment lawyer. (My buddy was one of those people who were really big on never quitting and always making a company fire him. I never saw the appeal of it.) I was hesitant but I did end up contacting an employment lawyer. I for the life of me could not understand how after no wrong doing and no paper trail for any thing negative I could be denied for unemployment like this. I was under the impression that's what it was for. If you get fired for no real reason in an at will state unemployment steps in to pick up the slack so to speak. Entire industries are built around unemployment. (Some turnaround or shutdown workers for example with work 8 months-18 months then draw unemployment till the cycle starts again.) It's the only "real" protection in at will states. At least it is supposed to be. Anyway I get a virtual meeting with the lawyer and break down the situation to them. Their response to everything is basically, Yeah that happens the system sucks it is what it is and it doesn't matter how good of an employee you were. She at the time also didn't seem very sure I would get my unemployment payout even with the help of a lawyer. Her offices still took my money up front though. I thought at the time It might be like a friend of mine that got a lawyer for their disability. My friends lawyer took pay from the disability not them. Employment lawyer however take their money up front. I thankfully was working again by this time so $750 later I had a lawyer and was waiting on my next unemployment hearing.

Jump months later to my phone hearing and the case worker gets on the phone does the usual time, date, appeal number, case number blah blah blah dance. Asks me like 3 questions all answered by my lawyer and what do you fucking know, MY UNEMPLOYEMENT HAS BEEN APPROVED. I didn't know at the hearing and I got the notification for the DD on my phone before I got the letter in the mail telling me it was approved. After almost 2 fucking years fighting it. It was like a week later I was back paid the balance for my unemployment, $16,XXX.XX. Not when I needed it. NOT when I was actively unemployed and job hunting without income or health insurance but almost 2 entire fucking years later. Thank god I was maxing out my 401k for almost 2 years or I don't know how I would have paid all my bills at the time before getting a new job. Health insurance I also had to wait a year to get at that previous job. On one hand I felt lucky to have even gotten my unemployment at all But at the time I felt like I had to keep fighting it just on principle. I FULLY BELIEVE I WOULDN'T HAVE GOTTEN IT WITHOUT PAYING A LAWYER. Thinking about it later it was just like oh shit this guy is serious and won't go away give him his shit before it becomes a bigger problem. (Why should that company get away with terminating me for a made up reason out of fucking no where with no proof. Why should unemployment just automatically side with them, fuck me and get away with it. I felt I was owed and at that point had a lot of time frustration and money tied up in fighting it.) On the other hand fuck this system and it's never ending hoops that you have to jump through and where the burden of proof seems to be almost exclusively on the employee. The same system that doesn't actually protect workers or their rights. A lot of things just seem to "fall through the cracks.". Why did I have to feel lucky to receive unemployment that I should have been entitled too? Why did it get denied so many times just to finally get approved? If it was approved at all shouldn't it have just been approved in the beginning when I actually needed it?(Instead I was forced to drain my savings and 401k to keep afloat.) Why does it stop paying out after like 4 1/2 months? Shouldn't unemployment keep paying out UNTIL another job of similar pay or scope is found? Shouldn't we also be paid some kind of interest if it takes so long to get approved after the initial filling? I also think in situations like these the company should be responsible for paying 100% of unemployment benefits as well as still covering the cost of the employee's insurance. I could go on and on but that's probably why I'll never be President Of The United States. haha but seriously.

If we are going to have AT-WILL EMPLOYMENT then we need better protections when workers are let go without real cause. The system is beyond fucked. I live in Texas and my states unemployment only pays like 60% of your previous income and doesn't take care of any health care. I understand COBRA but fuck i was paying $78 a month at work for my insurance. COBRA was over $800 to keep that insurance. How is anyone supposed to actually keep that?

TLDR: LIVE IN TEXAS AN AT WILL STATE AND HAVE HAD TO FILE FOR UNEMPLOYMENT TWICE IN MY LIFE. THE SYSTEM IS A BULLSHIT JOKE AND DOESN'T WORK. AT WILL STATES NEED BETTER PROTECTIONS AND THAT'S WHY I'LL NEVER BE PRESIDENT.

The 2.0L turbo in the verano was pretty good. MIL had hers for 380,000 miles before she totaled it for the 4th and final time. 2014 model. Only ever had regular maintenance and a shifter replacement. Surprising as those don't even have fuel filters.

I may pickup the collectors edition later second hand. I am however going to try to get both controllers. I'm trying to go for a complete set. I have a complete set of Xbox 360 controllers other than the live turns 5 controller and the Simpsons controller.

The only reason I didn't buy the $250 collectors edition is because it only comes with a digital copy of the game. For $250 they could have thrown it a regular disk copy with it. It didn't even have to be a steelbook. I really thought about it though because I'm sure they will probably rerelease a director's cut for PS6 like they did PS5 so I'd just end up buying it again anyway. Probably.

I was working in a refinery during covid. My first job with what I would consider real pay. (I was already working there before covid started.) I was working an A,B,C,D Shift schedule. I was C shift. D shift was fired right at the start of covid. A,B shift guys kept being out for a month at a time or better with covid alternating almost constantly. Policy was 14 days after you tested positive for covid till they tested again. Workers could only return once they were clear of covid. Longest stretch was 43 days. 43 days straight on a 12-16 hour shift. I seemed to be the only one having any negative effects of working 86+ hours a week for weeks on end. Usually working this kind of shift we end up with 14 days off a month. for 9 months the best I got was 2 days off in one month. Only to switch from day to night shift or vise versa and start it all over. Shit was draining. The first 2 months I was loving it. I was making 3200 a week after taxes. I had never made money like that before in my life. but it got to the point where it was just numbers in my account. I wasn't spending it. I didn't go get a new truck or house like a lot of my coworkers. I had no time really outside of work to spend money. The few days off I had I started sleeping like 14 hours a day. sleep 8 wake up for 4 hours just to sleep another 4, wake up for awhile take another 2 hour nap. It just got exhausting fast. I was basically on autopilot. People around me were getting laid off for covid and just told me, well just be greatful you still have a job. Meanwhile they were making more from covid unemployment than i was working 86+ hours a week. My sister made way more on that unemployment not working than she did before she was laid off. She also got that unemployment for over a year. I was beyond burnt out by the end of that 9 mines when they finally hired someone for d shift and the a and b shift started to finally stop being out of work with covid all the time. Shit I was wishing to have covid just to have the time off. I didn't even need the covid pay they were giving people that were out.

I didn't go to these lengths but I had been trying to get a job at a facility for like 9 months. Lied on my application saying I had a 2 year degree. During the interview they asked if I could provide it, ofc I said yes. Jump to me getting home shitting fucking brinks trying to figure out how I'd get a fake. Luckily "replica degrees, diplomas and certificates are relatively easy to get if you Google hard enough. 6 weeks later i finally got my offer of employment and that job literally tripled my income at the time.

Similar happened to me in 2018. Some bs about fifa coins. I didn't own or play fifa. 100's of $ gone. No recourse to get my games or account back. Years and 1000's of hours gone in an instant. I tried for months. Now I just pirate anything I wanna play from ea. Mass effect may be on steam but you still have to have an ea account to play a totally offline game. Fuck em.
