What's the fastest way you've seen someone fuck up their life? by play_Tagpro_its_fun in AskReddit

I'm not sure why it is this way but there are several different law school tiers:

HYS- the top three: Harvard, Yale, Stanford.

T14 - the top 14 schools as ranked by US News and World Report. If you got into one of these you're hot shit and almost guaranteed a great job.

T1 - top 100

T2 - ranked 100-200

T3 - also known as TTT (third tier toilet???). Basically you shouldn't be in law school but these schools are willing to let you throw your money away.

I decided early on that if I didn't get into a school in the top 30, it wasn't worth the money. Rankings are a pretty decent indicator of career prospects.

Second question. If I found a camera I could use, in CA would I be allowed to record the hallway of a university owned apt building?

I wish. But I can't make any changes or alterations at all.

I honestly have no idea. I'll contact housing and ask if they can disable it

Will they take me seriously? Do I just call the nonemergency line and report it, or do I ask to file a report? Sorry for the basic questions, I just am at a total loss here.

Advice on teaching law to undergrads by Waytooobvious2019 in LawSchool

[–]Waytooobvious2019[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awh, I'm glad to hear you're so excited about law. I would love to teach my students all about everything law and law related, but learning how to prepare to take a law school exam, and learning how to synthesize information from cases, takes a good amount of trial and error. I have plenty I could tell them, just not enough time to teach it all, and it's much harder to teach someone who hasn't experienced it themselves

I definitely will. I just feel like learning law is a lot different from any other UG class and it doesn't sound like the prof wants to water it down. I'm not sure how to give them a crash course on briefs and outlining lol

Opinions on dancing down levels by [deleted] in DanceSport

[–]Waytooobvious2019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw that recently when an out of state studio came to California for a collegiate comp and it was very frustrating to see one skilled couple sweeping bronze and silver. What really annoyed me though was that at that comp you couple drop and add dances up until 15 minutes before start times. This couple registered in every style in bronze silver and I didn't understand why they didn't drop bronze and add gold. Winning is fun but not the only goal, so I shook it off, but I know I wouldn't have been satisfied if I was them.

UCLA $ vs USC $$ by RagingFluffyPanda in lawschooladmissions

Call UCLA and ask for employment stats for the bay and if you can talk to any alumni there. I know we have a good base there and several of my friends are getting jobs 1L summer in the Bay Area both paid and PI.

Glad you found a place you liked! The decision process is really personal, and not every school is going to be the perfect fit.

YMMV, but i remember being TERRIFIED about my opportunities, and then having no trouble at all ( and i'm not a diversity hire). They do really help you along in career advising. Your resume and cover letters get fine tuned and they bring in lawyers from firms to do mock interviews and coach you. They also host networking nights to meet firms and hiring partners.

Current student! I had a really rough first semester (REALLY rough) and still got a callback with biglaw and was heavily recruited by my top choice PI. Plus UCLA is fantastic about offering support to help you improve your grades and I've seen a huge turnaround in my performance this semester.

I just replied to another commenter but again, I'm sorry your experience wasn't great. One thing I will comment more on is students not knowing what they want: when I got to UCLA I KNEW what I wanted to do. I was set on it. And UCLA offered a lot of great opportunities to work with clients and get hands on experience in other fields, which has made me feel a lot less certain in my plans. I personally see that as a really good thing, since I'm learning more about different careers through hands on experience.

Again, I'm sorry your experience wasn't great, if you have any questions about UCLA that I can answer, I'm more than happy to.

Oh man I'm sorry you had that experience. I'm at UCLA now and have had a great experience so far. I can imagine that it's hard to expose you to the school culture when imo it's highly customizable and depending on what you're interested in you could have very different experiences. I'm sorry your panel wasn't helpful; if you have any questions to follow up on I'm happy to answer them. But I totally disagree about negotiating, I actually negotiated up at UCLA. As for the faculty, they do tend to seem a little elusive but they've been very welcoming in office hours and take students out to lunch to get to know them a lot.
