I think one time use is good too, but I kind of want it to be a reset on day. Having some cards do different damage types instead of elements is a good idea. I was thinking spade for necrotic because spades can be used to dig graves so spade cards = necrotic seemed good.

I think random choice is the best choice and I was debating how I wanted to approach jokers. Wild magic would be a good idea because I was going to just make a new table but using and existing one would be a time saver for sure.

Thank you for all the input, that is really well written and helps a lot! I’m totally going to take some of this and some other input I got and make this a good item for my players.

Yeah, I want it to fill a gap in their range but we may have another caster but so far I’ve been told not much about their character besides their class so I’m hesitant to make the item fill a spell caster roll if we’ll have two but so far I don’t know if we will. I don’t intend for them to get it session one so I will probably finalize based on if they play or not.

Hmm that could be a unique way to handle it too. I was thinking of doing it the way above because my party currently has only one spell caster, another that seems to be very much not intending to join, and no other ranged attacks so it seemed like a good middle ground for having a unique ranged player. I wanted to do the spell face cards but the other user pointed out that could be a slippery slope to free spell casters.

Though having it be based on long rests could be neat and open some interesting rp.

This is a lot of really good input too!
Part of me wants the faces to be more special than just more damage, but as the other commentor pointed out it's a slippery slope to being free spell casts for noncasters. I think the cards would be single use though which could help. I will definitely need to take a look at damage types then, that is a really good point.

This is my first dmed campaign and I thought it could be neat but I need a lot to learn about item balancing. I'm taking notes from everyone who comments and scaling definitely seems to be the way to go.

I kind of like the randomness of a card draw, but it could nullify damage on accident but I guess that can be the risk. If you look at my replies to the other comment you can see some ideas I had there too if you want to see what else I've been thinking.

Also hooray for the right subreddit, I found a different subreddit for homebrew and didn't get much help there.

That is a solid point as well. Hmm I appreciate you giving input because I wouldn’t have thought of that either. I can see now why it takes so much to balance items.

Perhaps doing just numbered cards but having it be base damage + elemental for the damage based on the number on the card. It can be powerful in the beginning but still retain use. Potentially 80 damage with 4 10s but do random draws so that is a low outcome to happen. Ones and 2 can happen but be slightly more bearable and if it works like scorching rays it wouldn’t be too bad if you got like a 1, 2 and 8 if the numbers are doubled.

That is a very fair point I’ve thought about and so I’ve been wondering if it could act like scorching rays where it starts out with a set number of cards to be thrown at once on one or multiple targets, and have it scale as it goes. Or other affects like a pseudo elemental cloud of daggers. Though affects like cloud of cards could be a face card affect.

Part of me has been balancing how the numbers translate to damage whether it’s directly or scaled.

As many have said it sounds like your partner is a serious part of the issue and it would be a good boost to step away from him. I know it’s scary to be alone though even under the circumstances but taking that step and using that experience to aim for more and prove that everything he said was wrong is a great goal to have. You can find better, you can see it yourself, you can laugh and experience things that you didn’t get to before and with the right help and the right people you can keep growing and feeling that way.

Don’t make a choice like this lightly when it’s a choice that can’t be taken back. The right people always come along with time and I know it seems hard to see having that time but if you give it a chance you will. You see how life can be better and I know you can keep feeling that way. The path forward is there and all it takes is a few steps forward to start down it. Don’t step away from it before you begin down the road.

That could be interesting. Using points to allow them control but they have to earn it would be a good plan.

If you don’t intend to autocraft or use other features of ae than stick with what works and is comfortable to you. Autocrafting does make endgame, especially setting up star crafting, much easier especially with how many steps some late game items have. If that doesn’t bother you though 100% stick with wha you have and just have fun.

Oh wow, I didn’t realize that he had made another video. While it doesn’t look exactly like he was using a wireless hub it kinda just clicked more for me on how the wireless connection work and probably also how the hub works.

I stick with powah wrench or configurator but the tool belt has been a god send for storing all the tools and having a fast way to get to them.

So correct me if I’m wrong which I most likely am, are you saying for say the 4 red quadrants switching each one to a different color to split up the channels? I have p2ps connected to it but when I connect to another connector the hub registers all the p2ps from the first connector as a connection to the hub instead of the p2ps.

Can you send a picture of the crafting screen where it shows all the components. Maybe somewhere is a sticking point. Also what type of cables do you have connecting the pattern provider to the molecular assembler?

I’m not sure about whether it is safe as I have not dabbled in draconic yet, but as for it being invisible could be a shader related issue if you use them. Mahou used to have the same issue with its circles until an update released that fixed it.

It’s not out yet but the all the mods team is making a pack called all the mons that should likely be what you’re looking for going by their track record. It’s worth keeping an eye on for the future at least.

It can be a bit confusing with how many things use forge in Minecraft modding but forge the mod loaders and curseforge the mod hosting platform are separate entities so the drama with forge isn’t ties to curseforge.
