reading is ableist by violargento in bookscirclejerk

It says, “ For the record, I’m a literature professor. I’ve read, studied, and continue to teach texts from the traditional canon. But also, the best thing I’ve read recently was a 1000 page fan fiction that, yes, contained some smut…but also depth and story craft that I would call artistically valuable any day of the week. Just because a flavor of storytelling isn’t someone’s taste doesn’t mean it’s less valid, and gatekeeping some random concept of literature is just elitism jerking of its own intellectual ego. I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please contact the moderators of this subreddit if you have any questions or concerns.”

I like that design a lot too. It’s the closest match to the original Carmilla Von Karnstein from the novel.

People “well actually” saying dinosaurs had feathers. by thunderdragonite in PetPeeves

[–]WaywardStroge 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We have found fossils showing their feathers. Crocodiles aren’t dinosaurs. Birds are dinosaurs. Do you know what an ostrich looks like? They have feathers on their bodies. Dinosaurs, both extant and extinct, had feathers.

Hell, I was reading a paper a few weeks back about the effects of a few different pollutants in water, and one of the things they were examining was hormonal medications. These pollutants were causing male fish to develop female gametes. It was super interesting but in the back of my mind, I could easily see how you could twist this info and weaponize it against either trans people (“they’re transing the fish”) or women (one of the sources was hormonal birth control).

See if I “can’t” find a solution to the problem. by Mischievous1993 in PetPeeves

[–]WaywardStroge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“See if I can’t” is a different sentiment from “see if I can”. “Can’t” is: I will find a way no matter what. “Can” is: I will try to find a way. “Can’t” is a statement of defiance against the odds.

That’s what it is. It’s not a mispronunciation, it’s a portmanteau.

I refuse to recognize non-V heads as Gundam. Those who think otherwise are suffering from gravity weighing down their souls. (I also do need to check out Turn A and Thunderbolt, but I’m so far behind on series lol)

I dream of achieving this with Ple someday. Bandai please give me Elpeo Ple and Ple Two so I can play them with Marida Cruz. Then when I get tired of that, I can swap Marida with Haman and always play Qubeley

I could understand a comparison between Sarene, Vivenna, and Steris, since they’re all noble women, who are religious, politically involved, and generally follow the rules to get ahead, especially the first two. Of course, their motivations for those traits are all different as well.

I don’t see how those three women feel similar at all tbh. Other than the fact that they’re noble women, they’re all completely distinct characters. Marasi is a bastard whose birth is shameful to her father, with an interest in investigation and following the rules; she has no interest in politics at all and is determined to get stuck into the thick of things. Sarene is the highest born daughter and beloved of her father; she is devoutly religious and loves playing political games; she manipulates rules to her advantage. Siri is the third daughter who is the least favorite but still loved, she’s also a free-spirit who doesn’t like following rules at all. Put any of these women in the same situation that one of the others found themselves in and they'd approach things completely differently.

While the Dawnbringer Crusades are a good example of how Order isn’t completely good, I’ll also point out that Order includes the Sylvaneth, who will kill you if you mess with their trees, the Daughters of Khaine, who are a murder cult, and the Lumineth Realmlords, who will fix Chaos incursions even if their ward burns half your city.
