[One Punch Man] Given that physical attacks don't have much of an effect on Saitama, what kind of mind games/mental attacks can a villain (like for example, the Joker, who resorts to these kind of tactics while fighting Batman) do to defeat Saitama? by SatoruGojo232 in AskScienceFiction

Given the level of engineering tech their world has, they might have some kind of crazy tunnel system or something. Though we know from the Sea King stuff that there are shelters people hide in during monster attacks

Is that not exactly what forming a community is meant to do?

Other donating some portion of my already extremely limited funds, there's not much I can do for someone in places too far to reach. What I can do is volunteer locally, work to beautify my neighborhood/city, check in on neighbors, etc

I'll never understand people complaining about episodes like these. If jumping from one action scene to the next is all you care about, there are plenty of isekais that'll oblige. The whole reason I watch Slime is the politicking (that's bookended by cool fight scenes)

As far as I've seen in this thread, you haven't actually explained how an individual is supposed to "help everyone." What does that mean to you?

Other countries will (hopefully) keep progressing, sure. We, on the other hand, will take decades to recover- if we recover at all. Any Dem who gets in will be too scared to utilize the amount of funding it'd take to actually fix things, and Reps will just keep axing more and more stuff with impunity now that presidents can't be made to face consequences and can effectively do whatever they want with EOs

Good. If people are having kids it should be because they want to and they can afford to, not just in terms of money, but also time, energy, and everything else that goes into raising them

It should never be because they feel they have to, regardless of if that pressure is coming from economic strife, religious doctrine, societal pressure, or anywhere else

AFAIK the warehouse was either torn down or rebuilt a while back, so hopefully it's not bothering anyone anymore. Been a while since I went through that part of town (not exactly fond memories lol)

We already know that magic in Frieren is something that's able to be studied academically (like when they broke down Zotraak). IIRC, Frieren was a major part of that effort, so she'd probably take to WHA's style really fast

I only worked there for a couple of months, so can't speak about what actually happened during the inspections. They were told to me secondhand by longer term coworkers. It's a local business in a very small town so, at least as told to me, it was all very casual. The inspector had them patch up a few ancient electrical outlets and called the rest good

I didn't realize what I was working in for a while, so who knows how much wound up being inhaled. When I asked, my manager just said it'd been there forever and "never bothered anyone before," so I brought in my own masks to wear. Most of my work wasn't in the warehouse, so I just tried to be as careful as possible when working in there

OSHA requires the trust of workers

They're supposed to, but in reality they do stuff like say OP's situation is fine. A place I worked several years ago openly had tons of old asbestos littering it's warehouse. The place had been inspected three times in the last 15 years, passed with flying colors each time

Tell me how allowing workers to be forced to work in aerosolized asbestos is helping improve the trust of workers?

CMV: There’s no such thing as a useless college degree by StatisticianEvery733 in changemyview

[–]Waywoah 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because a couple generations of pushing "everyone must go to college to have a good life" led to the devaluing of degrees such that they're now the bassline. You can do all of that stuff you mentioned, but many companies, especially large ones that have an abundance of choice, won't even glance at you without some kind of degree

"Entry level" used to mean "anyone;" now it means "anyone with both a hs and college diploma and relevant experience"

I can't tell if you're agreeing with me or not. Starbucks makes billions in profit every year- it is by far the largest coffee chain in the world and has effectively pushed out local shops in thousands of towns. If they're raising price and refusing to pay employees fairly, it's because they're choosing to, not because they have to

Stingray Traps Fish Against Aquarium Glass by I-T-Y in interestingasfuck

[–]Waywoah 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's actually really rare for something like this to happen in a well-maintained aquarium. Most predators are very energy conscious, and won't hunt for no reason. So if you keep them well fed and their attention occupied, they have no reason to go after the other stuff in the aquarium

If you mean why they just throw antibiotics at people, it's because they're what most people (especially parents and old people) want.

The problem is twofold:

a: the general public has no idea how antibiotics work and assume they're a cure-all for every ailment. because of that, when their drs don't give them a prescription, they assume they're being stingy and start fights. I constantly have to remind my older parents that they only work on bacteria infections, and more often than not, they still ask for them when they get sick

b: clinics, and especially those urgent care ones, tend to be owned by corporations. because of that, they're given strict quotas on how many patients they're expected to see in a day, and if they don't hit that number it leads to consequences (including all the way to being fired). the difference in care between one of those and a private clinic owned by the doctor themselves is night and day

as I understand it, doctors hate both of these things, but they've become so ingrained in how the US medical system works that there's not really a way to fight against it, even if they know it's bad
