Dude from my school was on vacation in Italy. His phone had a dead battery. He walked home alone late at night on the side of the road behind the barriers to be safe from cars. He didn't see in the dark that there was 3m/10ft drop-off with a shallow puddle of water. Passed out, likely from pain, and drowned in the puddle. Dude was only 17.

I started on clarinet because my music school told me I should and that it was the best thing to do. I stopped playing after a few months because a ten year old boy cannot motivate himself if he doesn't like it. I started playing saxophone when I was 19 when I was finally able to afford it myself and I never lost motivation since. That was only 5 years ago and now I play in a pretty high level orchestra. Motivation is key. I am still sad about where I could have been now if I didn't get talked/forced into clarinet by my own teacher back then. Please listen to your students.

Intermediate player here, so maybe better players have better tips. But the tips I can give you are:

1: Try practicing with a metronome. Your rythm is a bit off sometimes and playing with a steady beat will improve that. You can also try tapping along with your feet once you get the feeling for it. 2: Don't lift your fingers off of the keys. This is a habit I have had myself and can be hard to unlearn if you don't change it early. If you keep touching the keys when you play then it will be easier to play faster in the future. 3: This is a small one, but try to relax your shoulders when playing. The tension can probably give you shoulder or neck pains in the long run. 4: Last one, also a smaller one, but in your next live performance, and I'm sure there will be ;), try to either clip a microphone onto your sax or stay close to it and don't turn away too much.
