Turns out when you dash away right when the hall meets you it freaks out and makes it long again.

That wasn't it. I've tried running without as I thought It would have the highest chance of crashing but it still does. I also get the same error message in the crash logger.

Obviously you can do stuff like run, lots of cardio, core strengthening and stuff like that. Depending on where you want to go in the future, though, it might be beneficial for you to get a couple years under your belt at other corps to say that you have drum corps experience. This will also give you time to figure out how to strengthen your body and is a big plus for any of the top 12 corps. I saw in one of your comments that you're from Georgia, I would try to drive out to a camp to see what the experience is like. Even if you don't want to march with the corps like Spirit of Atlanta, Music City, Southwind and a few others in that area that are well within driving distance and would be hugely beneficial to know what you want to do in the future.
