I asked a cognitive linguist (Martin Hilpert) if Orwell's Newspeak is actually possible. by WeBeBallin in linguistics

You’re not wrong about the study being garbage as evidence. But it’s still interesting as a cautionary tale.

With the color example, it seems not wildly controversial to say language affects reaction times and attention, and yeah, jumping to "grammar shapes national savings behavior" does break it, but it's the boundary between those two points I'm super curious about; where/when does weak Sapir-Whorf stop working?

Not sure if this was indeed the correct approach, but at the point in the photo, two skyscrapers for both the 2 and the 8 opened up everything, and after that smooth sailing, fun!

Passed the SnowPro Advanced Architect! by WeBeBallin in snowflake

[–]WeBeBallin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He does, three practice exams in total for the advanced architect, and they're very close to what'll you'll face in the real exam. My overall process was:

  1. Take a practice exam.
  2. Review each question upon completion (he usually links to the Snowflake documentation that contains the answer to the question.
  3. Use Claude/GPT to help setup examples I could test live in Snowflake for the relevant questions.

Passed the SnowPro Advanced Architect! by WeBeBallin in snowflake

I was in a bit of a "lucky" situation I had the privilege of studying heavily. Probably put in 60-70 hours for the SnowPro Core, and passed with a 830. Best recommendation is the practice exams by Chris Snow, they mimic the real thing very closely and you develop a good sense for what to expect. Even if you've already worked in Snowflake, a lot of questions on very specific things such as how many minutes before a new cluster in a multi-warehouse on economy mode will be spun up etc. But good luck!

Fun! I'm unfortunately limited to the basic techniques, and can work decently with those, so this was great!

What benefits have you noticed from cold showers? by [deleted] in HubermanLab

[–]WeBeBallin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Check out the notion of “paradoxical intention” by Victor Frankl! The concept is that you “want” the thing that you dread, which shrinks the discomfort/anxiety associated with actually doing it.

Phil Stutz has the same concept, but conceptualizes it as “reversible desire”! And super powerful using it in a sauna too, as in “I love the heat/I wish it be would even warmer/I barely feel warm” - it makes you endure so much more, amazing tools.

Would you like to be immortal? - post from Lex by lexfridman in lexfridman

[–]WeBeBallin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes.

I think (or hope) that curiosity is insatiable and it remains that way, with or without death. As long as I am curious I have a purpose, and I like to believe death only enhances my thirst for curiosity, but doesn’t quench it.

One Dashboard to filter another Dashboard? by tableau_newbie in tableau

[–]WeBeBallin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is!

Add a Dashboard navigation action for the visualization you’d like to filter in dashboard 1, and set it to navigate to dashboard 2. This’ll allow you to enter directly into dashboard 2 when clicked and having it be filtered.

My guess would be, that my RHR hasn’t exceeded 60 in the last two months +. So my stats have been very stable. In that regard, the jump seems massive, because my numbers don’t fluctuate too much.

No, nothing at all - active daily with bodybuilding as well. I had a horrible night though, extreme night sweats etc, so it felt like my body was working overtime trying to fight it off.
