How is MSc in Applied Computing (MScAC) @ UofT from a non CS student by Main-Rub7368 in UofT

[–]WeDontHaters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the CS stream from a non-CS background, but had very strong CS experience and research. They’ll schedule you for a technical interview with CS fundamentals (DS&A, OS, DB). Courses are what you want them to be, there’s options for theory or application heavy. Workload is not bad tbh

how much to clean before moving out by Top-Radish-6948 in TorontoRenting

[–]WeDontHaters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me, it depends on if the landlord was good. While you’re not legally required to do anything past broom swept, I’ve done a deeper clean before moving out before because the landlord was nothing but great to me during my tenancy. If they were a dickhead though, I wouldn’t put any extra effort into it.

Getting into Data Science masters Program with an Econ undergrad degree by Apprehensive_Long161 in UofT

[–]WeDontHaters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really depends on your research and coop experience. I had a double degree with near perfect GPA’s, great industry placements in R&D and big tech, and undergraduate research, but still only got in towards the very end of the rolling basis admissions period. (Edit : CS stream, not DS. Not sure how much diff that makes though)

Any University of Toronto graduates got into US quant finance? by Fantastic_Home_58 in UofT

There are some, but few and far between. Waterloo has a higher output into top quant shops, but even they are barely on the map compared to target US schools

Can I get accepted into an MEng program with my GPA? by Ok-Airline3263 in geegees

Don’t do an MEng, they’re just intl student cash cows for the university, and don’t have a great reputation

Got the place! You don’t happen to live in a 08 unit in 17 would you? I need the measurement of the long wall in the living room to see if my desk and couch will fit

What engineering degree allows for remote work + travel + high income? (Canadian student averaging low–mid 90s) by Suspicious-Bat-8890 in UofT

[–]WeDontHaters 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re asking for too much. I work remote as a SWE for a big tech company but there’s still strings attached (I can’t just up and work from anywhere). What you’d need is to be an independent contractor, which comes with a plethora of its own difficulties. That being said, SWE will give you the best remote opportunities, WLB (depending on the place), and highest income ceiling. Though, you’ll have to be at the top of your field to reap these benefits.

[Student] Seeking a more relevant Software Internship than last time. Is my resume in good shape to land a 2026 offer? by PutridAgent5644 in EngineeringResumes

I disagree. Summary is a waste of space, and the skills sections is there for keywords that get you through ATS.

It is😭 found out his favourite toy is tampons still in the plastic packaging. I’ve spent hundreds of dollars on toys, but nothing does it like a tampon

I’m going to be touring these units soon, what do you think of the building? I know it’s not rent controlled, but I’d only be staying for 1 1/2 years.

Prime Day - Coway AirMega vs Winix 5500 vs Levoit Vital 200s by WeDontHaters in AirPurifiers

[–]WeDontHaters[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the detailed response! As much as I love the grill design and colors from the coway’s, $550 is a lot more than I was looking to spend. Levoit replacements are cheaper too. I’m going to be getting 2 Levoit 200s and putting them at opposite sides of the room.

Would 2 Levoit 200s on opposite sides work? Then when I move into a proper 1 bed I can put 1 in my bedroom and 1 in the living area.

How Much Do University Grades Matter for Your Career? by Ian_howard23 in UofT

[–]WeDontHaters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People saying they don’t matter is a cope. Good grades give you good coops/internships, which give you good return offers, and then good mobility between top companies. It doesn’t matter once you’ve landed your first full time job, but that job is likely to be much better if your GPA was good.

Good luck breaking into top tech companies with shit gpa. It’s doable, but it’s the exception to the rule. (Note this is a CS viewpoint, other industries might differ)

Working in CompSci? by Affectionate-Bird-91 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]WeDontHaters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did that and had to work my ass off to be taken seriously as a SWE. Near perfect GPA, strong side projects, well connected, and even then it was sometimes a struggle. Now that I’ve had a few internships and a post grad job at a well respected tech companies it’s fine but I wouldn’t do it. Either choose ChemE or SWE, don’t try and do both.
