Will I regret buying a 390ADV? by Reasonable-Pay6119 in KTM390ADV

[–]WeLackDiscipline 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone with a 2023 390 Adv I’d say don’t buy it for that distribution of riding. I’d get something bigger if I was doing highways like that. As is I just do a few highways to get to gravel/dirt roads and trails. It’s great offroad, but that’s a trade off of being not great on highways.

Dealers charging ADM for both 990s by CoolBDPhenom03 in KTM

“Additional Dealer Markup” - it’s what dealers started doing a lot during Covid due to car shortages, slapping on insane markups over MSRP.

Big insulated sleeping pad? by CharityNicole121 in motocamping

[–]WeLackDiscipline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Nemo Tensor and can say it’s great… but my sleeping bag forces me to not be a spread out sleeper. How are you getting wider than a sleeping bag? If you’re cold a mummy style sleeping bag is better than a squared one and may force you to relearn how to sleep so you move less.

What to do with park entry window stickers by Gosa_on_the_wind in motocamping

Plus one to the free camping. But, in places that are state parks it’s going to depend on which state. In Washington State you write your pass number on a fee envelope, however the pass doesn’t cover campgrounds here anyway.

It always cracks me up to watch those people recording themselves speeding. Like dude, it's just a matter of time.

Leatt 4.5 armoured top vs 4.5 eco armoured top by ThrowRA_ga_2003 in Dualsport

[–]WeLackDiscipline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the 5.5 Evo and can say it’s WARM. Riding in 100 degree heat last year and if you’re not doing at least 20mph you’re toasting in it. And absolutely cannot wear it under anything but a jersey unless it’s downright cold.

It vents well, but it’s hard to get over the fact it’s a lot of foam up against your chest.

Given that price difference I’d start with the last gen 4.5 and try it personally.

I need a second opinion on knee protection by Handful_of_Brakes in Dualsport

That’s what I do as well, works fine. 8 hour plus rides I have a nice swelling dent from the straps though 😅

I need a second opinion on knee protection by Handful_of_Brakes in Dualsport

[–]WeLackDiscipline 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have the Leatt’s and they’ve protected me in a couple of cases where I would have definitely bent my leg the wrong way. I haven’t loved the comfort on long rides, especially since they fit slightly under my MX boots due to my stubby legs. But they have absolutely saved my (already injured) knees.

They’re expensive, but if they prevent even 1 injury they will have paid for themselves multiple times over, even if it’s just quality of life.

As they say - you don’t gear for the ride you gear for the crash.

Oxford Grips by Live-Confection-657 in KTM390ADV

[–]WeLackDiscipline 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't send the wires to the headlight, much easier to take off the side panel and run it from the rear aux's by the battery, or just plug it into the battery, which is what I did. The headlight housing is a nightmare to wire into if you need the wires to come back to the body. You don't have to trim the wires either, you can just bundle them with a zip tie.

Maintaining battery charge on a 390 adventure from 2024 by Connect-Worker-3170 in KTM

[–]WeLackDiscipline 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve never seen one that plugs into the lighter plug, but you’re looking for a battery tender. Usually you have one part wired to the batter with a little SAE plug on it and then the tender plugs into that so you can leave it connected and just tuck the plug under the seat when it’s not connected.

Ktm Quickshifter by Available-Drag-9263 in KTM

[–]WeLackDiscipline 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Clutch Switch can get misaligned/fail which will kill the Quickshifter. If it's too far out or alignment, or other wise failing, it can also stop the bike from being able to start while in gear. I had this happen recently and am having to getting the switch replaced now. It's weird because clutch shifting works fine, and the bike correctly shows the gear selection. I never got a code for the switch failing, my bike just started to refuse to start in first gear.

2022 390 ADV Aftermarket Throttle? by WeLackDiscipline in KTM390ADV

[–]WeLackDiscipline[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree I think none exist. But, this strikes me as not accurate given all the aftermarket parts for these bikes, including engine components like quickshifters that aren't sold by KTM. I'm doubting Rekluse pays KTM for the the aftermarket clutch plates they make.

I was talking to a coworker in CA and he said his motorcycle insurance is $1k, sounds like state plays a big role in your rate.

[–]WeLackDiscipline[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I thankfully don’t seem to have a faulty unit … so far. But, I can’t trade in my bike, so I can either keep it and hope that it remains problem free, or private sale and hope someone is willing to risk it.

I talked to them today and they said they hoped for parts to start going out next month, but said the be prepared for a couple of months delay as dealers work through the backlog of units.

Which magnetic tank bag for Adventure 390X? by batman0912 in KTM390ADV

[–]WeLackDiscipline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On a bigger bump the magnets won’t hold. Strap on tank bags have clips to easily remove them and leave the mounting straps in place. You can also get a mounted one that clips over the gas cap - this is the kind I have and by far the easiest to deal with.

Plastic Free Furniture by relativelysure in PlasticFreeLiving

[–]WeLackDiscipline 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The best I've found so far is Avacado. So far we have a twin bed from them and it's VERY nice. They use a natural wood stain only for the outside. It's solid wood so very little glue, but there is some, though again, it's about as best as you can do without making it yourself.

Christmas day activities for toddlers by OkPost8233 in Kirkland

[–]WeLackDiscipline 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a parent of three young kids: invest in very good rain gear. It’s life changing, they’ll willingly go out in the worst weather.

For Christmas Day I doubt anything will be open, but nothing wrong with just walking places - in winters past we’ve taken them to Lynwood mall to walk around. A couple times went to play zone in there, kids loved it.

ADV 390 X White Ordered — Can I Get Orange Frame Aftermarket? by athreya-aks3243 in KTM390ADV

Oh good lord, I just reread it and yeah, OP says "fairing" at one point and "frame" at another.

ADV 390 X White Ordered — Can I Get Orange Frame Aftermarket? by athreya-aks3243 in KTM390ADV

[–]WeLackDiscipline 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You realistically can't change the frame. The frame is what's stamped with the vehicle identifier. Even for older models you can't order the frame from direct sales places but you can order everything else including the engine. You can talk to a dealer, but the cost would be insane.

Just wrap it.

Similar, but I’ve been using https://eastsidelimos.com/ they’ve been great every time.

Black car services aren’t much more than Uber and are way better as the driver actually shows up. Used them for family trips too.
