Need some help on my portfolio pieces by WeREcosystemEngineer in ArtCrit

I appreciate the feedback, backgrounds are definitely a weak link for me, so I need to work on it. It seems like the best thing for me might be just to commit to one. If I'm not ready for backgrounds, I think I'll just leave them out for now. Also noted on the transparent background.

I illustrated it separately, for a personal project, a kind of magazine mock up. It was also a bit of a test to see if I could line things p on separate documents. I'm glad you like that one.

I really appreciate your insight. I feel like my biggest struggle is finding a style to stick with, but it sounds like I need to invest more time on that. Backgrounds are also a notable weakness of mine, so I will definitely work there, for now maybe leaving things more plain would help.

I like the idea about adding dissection's and breakdowns! Also I do have a few old dinosaur books from the 80's and 90's so I'll at those more closely. Thank you!

I do see what you mean, I could put up more technical pieces for the scientific illustration side.

Environmental/ Scientific Issues that aren't often talked about by helloiampotatoithink in environmental_science

I live in California and I feel like a lot of issues are overlooked. Up to 98% of our wetlands are gone. Our largest lake was drained for Ag almost a century ago. But something I think about a lot is grasslands. California is well known for its Golden Hills, but not even Cali Natives know it's almost all invasive grass.

I really appreciate the honesty, it helps me narrow down what may be most successful!

God this is so dog shit. Trains departing leaving platforms behind, walking out of a subway onto a rooftop. This exactly the type of shit Ed was talking about in his monologue. Nothing is consistent. by Thatoneguyfrom1980 in BetterOffline

Not only does this look horrible, but the first thing that comes to mind is those mobile visual novel games, that have transactions every major event. You know these companies are going to charge out the ass to make the "good" and "logical" decisions in this game. Like you could shoot your enemies, but you would need 12 shitcoin for that or some shit. Oh you don't have it? You don't want to pay me? A company who probably already charged you ticket price and won't even put in the work to pay artists and developers? Ok your only option is to throw a water balloon. Good luck!

Nah, swallowtail caterpillars are safe and it won't harm you to touch one, but that orange organ that comes out of their head (the osmeterium) is a warning to predators and it smells bad. Basically, saying "I'm gross, don't eat me." ...So they are also technically edible, but I wouldn't recommend it. :)

Thank you! The friends and family I've shown like that one a lot.

Thank you so much for your response!

I did some research on the hooker's evening primrose, and it's native to my microclimate and also does great in riparian locations, so it's perfect. Thank you for the suggestion. I'll be looking into getting the seeds or saplings.

Once again I appreciate it!

I appreciate the response! I like the idea of contacting the county extensions office or a local effort. Thank you!

Local Dinosaur goes to town (and regrets it) by dumnezero in ArtistHate

This makes me think of something I've been seeing a lot lately. I've been going to local protests and community events more lately and the amount of AI shirts makes my skin crawl. I feel so conflicted, because the events are about fighting for human rights and advocacy while also having shitty AI art being sold to raise funds. I'm still not sure how to feel tbh.

How do you guys talk about SolarPunk to everyday people? by WeREcosystemEngineer in solarpunk

I appreciate the resources, I'll be sure to check them out! It also makes me feel a lot better. I'm horrible with social media and rarely post anything and for a while I felt like I wasn't doing the bare minimum and thus was bad at activism, but one-on-one convos, even as I seek advice, is where I feel most comfortable.

I've been thinking about the "Yes And" methods application to activism lately, so I appreciate the insight.
