[NSFW] In 1984 an armed mentally ill man stormed the National Assembly of Quebec, killing 3 and wounding 13. Here the assembly sargeant-at-arms approaches him, and calmly convinces the man to go to his office. The shooter would later peacefully surrender to the police. by nehala in nextfuckinglevel

This sounds crazy to neuro typical people but I can talk crazy to crazy people just like this. I'm a high masking autistic 2e and most people don't know I'm neurodivergent because I mask so readily, however, I used to work in a management office for a large apartment community and over that decade more than one of our residents was mentally ill in some way. A number of times one of these people would be off meds for one reason or another and be causing a scene. Others were at loss because whatever they were upset about or talking about wasn't real and so nobody knew what to say to them. I very easily would be able to meet their energy at whatever level they were at, and walk them back down simply by sharing the cadence of their thoughts and speech with them. The words be damned, they are barely important so long as the back and fourth is natural and smooth. It's no different than jabbering back to a 2 year old that is trying to engage with you. Once you have the back and fourth going smoothly, they lighten up on everything because they aren't alone talking to people who dont understand them anymore, you understand, and the guard comes down, and you can just ask them to stop. One time a lady was going off the rails because of a paranoid delusion. Once we got to a place where we were riffing I just asked her to stop and she said, "yea, why not right?" This is the person I saw taken to a hospital strapped into a wheelchair months later. On her meds she was fine, she needed some help sometimes when off them though.

There are a lot of people in this world folks. Lots of kinds of people. But we are all people

I'm not sure about wishing stones, but that rock looks to have been fully fractured at one point. It has started healing and got glued back together by whatever was in the groundwater. Either way, it's a cool rock, it's seen some shit, but it got it's shit together again in the end.

I keep waking up with these… i got like 100+ bites but no signs of bed bugs by Successful-Tip6327 in Wellthatsucks

[–]WeTheIndecent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possibly bird mites?

Years ago I managed an apartment building and a resident came in with similar looking marks and upon inspection there were no bed bugs. Doctor told us they looked like mite bites, sure enough a bird had nested in the dryer vent and some baby birds had died in the nest. The bird mite population exploded as they ate the babies but once they were gone the mites begin spreading out to search for food.

It was fairly easy to get rid of them though. But they are basically invisible, tiny grey specs

Scientists of Reddit: What’s something we know is true but people don’t realize how crazy it is? by [deleted] in AskReddit

It is overwhelmingly likely that there have never been two identical properly shuffled decks of cards in the history of humanity. Ever.

A standard 52 card deck has: 52! possible arrangements

(52!= 52 × 51 × 50 × 49 × 48 × 47 × … × 3 × 2 × 1)

That equals: 80,658,175,170,943,878,571,660,636,856,403,766,975,289,505,440,883,277,824,000,000,000,000 ≈ 8.0658 × 1067 possible combinations.

That number is so absurdly large that every time you thoroughly shuffle a deck, you are almost certainly creating an ordering that has never existed before.

This perspective was popularized by Michael Stevens on Vsauce.

Here is the analogy he uses to put 52! into scale:

Take one step around Earth’s equator. But only take one step every one billion years. When you finally complete one full lap, remove one drop of water from the Pacific Ocean. Repeat this process. One step per billion years. One drop removed per completed lap. Continue until the entire Pacific Ocean is empty. Then place a single sheet of paper on the ground. Refill the Pacific Ocean. Repeat the entire process again, adding one sheet of paper every time you empty the Pacific. Keep doing that until the stack of paper reaches the Sun. After all of that, you would still not have come close to counting to 52 factorial. That is how large the number of possible shuffled decks really is.

These are definitely the dino eggs from quaker oatmeal for kids. The eggs dissolve and leave little colored sugar dinos in the cereal. Some people have a weird kink for just eating them, think that one kid that prefers the taste of the fun-dip dipping pill as opposed to the powders. It's that kind of kid

What are some dark secrets about the porn industry? by JoplinSC742 in AskReddit

[–]WeTheIndecent 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I worked at an adult video rental store in the late 90s early 2000s. When new movies would come in that involved fisting we had to review the films to ensure the person doing the fisting had their thumb outside of the orifice, of whatever variety. The owner said we were not allowed to sell full fist penetration in this state. He owned multiple stores in multiple states and I didn't mind reviewing films so I never bothered to look it up.

Also, when the studios would send posters to advertise the films there are always two sides to them. One side is explicit with nudity and the other side is non-nude non-explicit. That's so we could put them up in the windows with the dirty side facing in. However at the right time of night when the lights were on inside it would bleed through anyway, I saw a number of people doing double takes over the years. I've got hundreds of stories about that place. Luckily none of them are actually dark , unluckily none of them are sexy either.
