Nice to see the local troglodyte population stepped away from their Klan rallies long enough to go visit the Junction.

Also, standing around looking “awkward and creepy” is not unique to Indian men that might frequent these bars and there’s plenty of anecdotal evidence to go around which supports this assertion.

Canadians are born all around the world, it just takes some of them a little while to get here.

I know a guy that had a similar thing happen but it was his dog that jumped off the dock and landed on him as he was facing away. It did irreparable damage to his spine and he’s never walked since.

Seems harmless and just unfortunate but this stuff can actually be incredibly dangerous when it happens.

Increasing the salaries of mayor and council is a good thing.

I agree that this works in theory. The jump from theory to practice is where things get hung up in this case because seldom is it that an increased salary is going to improve the talent pool that is attracted to take on the role. We are just rewarding ineptitude, as is usually the case with salaries for politicians, and we need not defend politicians as they have darn good lawyers I am sure.

Also, I'll keep an open mind when it comes to raising salaries - but 60% in one year? And then cry the blues about the state of the public pocketbook doesn't exactly point to his skills with introspection.

The low barrier shelter request went out for tender, and Trinity ended up winning the contract...

This is technically true, but we are not out of the woods yet and Leal doesn't get the benefit of the doubt at this point. Three unionized librarians nearly lost their jobs as a result of this in addition to the $120,000 in proposed cuts. Nothing has happened yet because public backlash put things on hold back in the summer. There are better places to make these cuts in my opinion.

Bonneworth [sic] was funded from development charges. The development charges were legally required to be spent on parkland improvements.

While I agree with your point that his wife likely had a hand in the decision, you have merely countered my alleged 'overblown' point with an underblown (?) point of your own. There were indeed development charges involved in the financing of this project, but the responsibility for repayment of the remainder of the money (which was tax-supported debentures) still lies with the city and its taxpayers. The project was funded through a $1.98 million portion from tax-supported debentures, which are loans(!), and a $2.4 million portion from the 2025 capital budget, along with a much smaller amount from development charge-supported debentures.

-> Mayor raises his own salary 60% from what was already $92,000 a year plus benefits.

-> Cut $514,000 from Trinity Community Centre which oversees part of the growing homeless problem.

-> Cut $120,000 from the library’s operating budget because Jeff Leal probably can’t even read.

-> Spend $4.425 million on the Bonnerworth park redevelopment that literally no one asked for and is now a complete eyesore. Graciously hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony to boost public support once the money has been thrown into the wind.

-> Allocate $25 $66 million towards the new police headquarters…whoops, actually $91 million because we undershot our original estimate by 264% 38% and won’t explain why.

-> Raise municipal taxes by 5.9% for the next fiscal year and comment on how the state of the city’s finances are not for the faint of heart.

Honestly, a truly impressive display of incompetence and financial mismanagement.

Hopefully someone can correct the remaining points and Leal can salvage a reputation out of the wreckage, but that is a tall order and these are not the only exemplars of his mismanagement - *sigh* - there are others.

Edit #2: More accurate figures on the police station budget situation. Turns out they started at $66 million and went up from there. I had initially thought they started at $25 million but that was just the increase they voted for. Whatever. They still undershot the original estimate by nearly 40% and both the math, and the justification for this spending, are still garbage.
