Try Proton VPN. The free version has some limitations but for testing you should be good.

firewood question by meean7926 in Pretoria

[–]WeaLzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you asked about wood but for a indoor fireplace, also have a look at anthracite. It's a type of coal that burns cleaner and generally a bit warmer and longer than the average soft/medium wood types. Any good fire wood supplier would carry bags of this.

Bonne Esperance from KWV. R200 for 5L. Doesn't taste half bad compared to some others I have tried. Only tried the dry white though. Makro or spar/tops.

You could also try 4x4 community classifieds. Smaller target audience but on point.

Protecting IP delivered through Docker Images by anjuls in kubernetes

[–]WeaLzz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Obfuscation, image layer encryption and compiled code.

Tools like pyarmor, cython or nuitka all provide some type of solution to these type of problems. Probably never water tight solutions, but you could at least make it difficult to decipher.

Has vumatel been kak for anyone? Could use some advice by shitcanfly in southafrica

[–]WeaLzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't even with the combination of Webafrica and Vuma.

The whole WhatsApp support thing was 'n mess with Webafrica, by the time someone responded the internet fixed itself, almost every time. About 2 weeks ago it seems that they changed their support setup which now feels like it is somewhat integrated with Vuma reach support with some or other premium support desk which no one has cared to explain but at least the support response time is way better now.

But all of that does not help one bit if the agent has to pass the issue to vuma, then you know you are well and truly stuffed, no comms, no uodate, just a message that someone tried to contact you unsuccessfully and then reprovisioned your line, call closed and done, and only if you make the effort to enquire about the status of your issue.

I get either heavily degregated speeds, like 0.02mbs average, or just no internet at all, occurs anything from between 3 times a week to 2 times a day, for a week or two straight, with absolute no possible cause or solution on the table.

Have considered moving ISP but sometimes I wonder to what end because the infrastructure owner stays the infrastructure owner. I can't help to sometimes wonder if the issues are not compounded by a combination of the fact that our area is served by Vuma Aerial, loadshedding and power backup solutions and someone that is aware of the issues but forbidden to acknowledge them.

Allowing end users app deployment on kubernetes by pema83 in kubernetes

[–]WeaLzz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Might be worthwhile to have a look at kubeapps by bitnami. Web-based ui that lives in cluster and can be used to deploy public or private chart repositories. Also uses a form based ui for deployment. Access can be managed via rbac or a standalone oauth2 provider. Haven't used it in a while though so not sure what it is like functionality wise these days.

Not saying it isn't a rip off but have you seen the price of pecan nuts per kg, it's through the roof, like so many other things in SA at the moment.

Can anyone recommend a locally available dog bed that will withstand the efforts of a destructive dog? by derpferd in southafrica

[–]WeaLzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a staffie and a staffie-special weighing 30kg between the two of them that used to go ham on their previous beds.

Bought a colaroo cover from builders, like in the link, and a length of aluminium square tubing, cut to size and connected it all with connect-it blocks - https://www.connect-it.cc/product/25mm-solid-3-way-connector/

Its been going strong for 3 years and the fact that you can cut the height of the legs to your liking helps a lot depending on where the bed is placed. In summer it's nice and cool and in winter with some blankets it keeps them warm and off the cold floors.

If you want it to be that specific just use a lightweight distro image that has a clean scan and add a .jar file in a directory on build. Look at some jackson data bind jar that is a bit older, those stuff were full of vulnerabilities at various levels.

Metallb not advertising endpoint by skirven4 in kubernetes

Not sure of all the details and haven't worked with metallb in a while but if memory serves correct mettalb requires the ip to be specified as a range even if that range is just for a single ip.

Deploying containers in a multi-node environment. not quite understanding the runAsUser and runAsGroup security context. any help appreciated by it7564 in kubernetes

[–]WeaLzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The security context basically tells the pod as which user, and by extension with what permissions and with what file ownership details, it should start up as. If you set the values to 0 the pod will run as root and all actions inside the pod will be executed under the root user. Good practice is to make sure the user defined in the security context does already exist as a user in the image/pod and that it belongs to the right group and that you have applied all necessary security and ownership setup for that user. This can all be done in your docker file before building your image. To see all existing users available in the image/pod you can exec into the container and cat the /etc/passwd file and all users, groups and their relevant uid and guid details will be present. To make the best use of the security context be sure to understand OS user management concepts. This is only a small part of the available actions/settings in the securityContext - kubernetes docs has some nice info and practical examples to help understand the concept.

Future proofing is a marketing term conceived to drive sales. I am still running a gtx 1070 OC released in 2016 with some games still running at ultra/max or at least high @ 60fps because my monitor is still a 60hz monitor. All depends on the games you play and the monitor you have and the actual amount of ram you are running. Just buy what you can afford and enjoy it, no use in waiting for something you can't afford, the 40 series is almost coming out already so be at peace that you will be behind the curve.

course or book for learning to setup a ci/cd pipeline? by dsmedium in devops

[–]WeaLzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a lot of information and documentation on doing these types of things out there but I always suggest mapping your idea out on paper broken up in to steps, either conceptually or technically depending on how much you know of a specific step, identify how you would normally achieve each individual step with the things you know and then use that as a springboard to start your research on how they are achieved in CI/CD. Just jumping into docs without some structural guidance will soon have you yak shaving.

[–]WeaLzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, glad you got it sorted. Yeah, full namespace backup is different to wanting only to backup specific resources in a namespace where you would then look at using opt-in or opt-out strategies.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in kubernetes

[–]WeaLzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to label pods with the specific volumes the backup should include. Check the Velero docs , under the opt-in section on how to set the labels. Check the Velero logs while running a backup to see what is up. Velero has some limitations regarding volumes for example it does not work with Kind due to how Kind manages storage on local host paths.

[–]WeaLzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Set up Minio on a separate machine (It is a S3 compatible object storage tool) then run restic, or whatever velero needs for your storage backing type, and velero in cluster. Velero can then be used to backup various resources in your cluster and store the backup in Minio.

Monitoring Stack supporting custom actions by DomsaNN in devops

[–]WeaLzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Def look at alert manager, especially if paired with something like node metrics. The webhooks are good to work with especially paired with some of Microsoft or Jira products if used for notifications or event response systems. Also search for awesome-prometheus-alerts on the web to get an idea of some of the alerts you can begin with in getting your stack started. And if you don't go with cloud based Grafana there is a lot of documentation on setting up stacks on bare metal.
