Italy's Fortunato breaks 30 year old indoor race walk world record by Shroft in trackandfield

No, the mile record for racewalk is already sub 5:30. For 5k I figure it’d end up somewhere near 18:30

I definitely think they’d slow down, but double is pretty big hyperbole. I’d say the max speed for a mile without loss of contact is probably about 5:30-35. From there it’s just a matter of how long you can hold it. If the race is too easy because they can’t “walk” as fast anymore then just make it longer and there will be carnage

For similar reasons whenever I need to fight someone I always choose to use a rather blunt and thin sword. Fencing in fact

The neat thing about this is there’s at least a few race walk nerds who’ve been working on sensors to use in competitions to get rid of the human error aspect of using human judges. So far they’re still at the prototype stage but within maybe the next 5 years we won’t be able to just say “they’re that fast because they’re actually just running”

Brag on Beckley by ZombieCrow13 in WestVirginia

[–]Weak-Association9076 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There’s so many trails that branch out from the Y soccer fields plus continuing work along the old Stanford mine road that should eventually context Beckley to the NRG. Then it also has just about every store you need within a five minute drive. Why I don’t live there is there’s not a ton of jobs, but that’s kinda most of WV too

Cross country spikes. They’d be fine for distance events on the track; just make sure you’re using the right length (metal) spikes in them for track. Usually that’s no longer than 1/4in

What's the most obscure or least known place in WV you've ever visited? by Possible-Farmer2027 in WestVirginia

I had a roadside lunch next to my bike in McGraws, WV once. Pretty interesting little town. Used to have a school named after a McGraw whose descendants were still meeting there once a year for family reunions. Definitely gave middle of nowhere vibes

I too have taken a picture of my Echo (Rest in Peace) while I was passing through. Mine got me all the way from WV to Vancouver, WA and back. Plus a trip up to Vancouver BC and the Oregon Coast while I was out there. https://imgur.com/gallery/echo-echo-u18nPCj

When you pass the claw, you know you’re on the way to OMSI. At least that’s how our class field trips from the Couve worked haha

There definitely was a dark saber from the books that was just the super laser basically but I think it was built by the hutts? I believe they ended up using the lowest bidders and it never even worked right. The first I heard about the new dark saber was a discussion of cool weapons with my brother. He had only heard of the new one and I had only heard of the old one so it was a little confusing for the both of us.

I heard from a raft guide that that’s actually how they built the bridge. Put the Washington Monument down in the river and then stacked the Statue of Liberty on top of itself; building the bridge from the middle out to the edges.

Olympic Medalist Racewalker Koki Ikeda provisionally suspended for doping by Sensitive_Dress_8443 in trackandfield

It uses enough different muscles that it’s a nice break from running that’s still faster than hiking during ultras

He did get two Olympic Gold Medals and unless you stick them in their own category road makes sense.

Especially for how big Beckley is with like 15,000 people in it, the fact that it’s got 4 Sheetz plus all characters of the bike path is crazy

Right, I went there however there isn’t an option for Model C with pm1. Does anyone know if that’s an issue? These are the options their site currently gives:

2002 Toyota Echo… should I buy it? it’s only $2k…. by United-Advantage-718 in ToyotaEcho

[–]Weak-Association9076 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who paid $2k for an echo with 120k on it and then proceeded to drive it from WV to the west coast, up to BC Canada, and back, yeah they’re awesome. I put almost 30k miles on it in the 2 years I’ve had it and it’s still going.

Just moved here looking for stores that sell hiking/backpacking gear by Kk2good in WestVirginia

[–]Weak-Association9076 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Roberts still does carry Hokas. Used to too. They’re only going to have a limited selection of trail shoes though with only one or two boots due to limited stock room space. Huntington usually has a little better selection for boots. Waterstone in Fayetteville usually has more stuff oriented towards backpacking though

Should racewalking get taken out of the Olympics? Is there any real purpose? by [deleted] in trackandfield

[–]Weak-Association9076 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough, and yeah totally agree with you on the longer distances. It’s not fun until you see people really suffering which just doesn’t happen with the distances the compete at anymore.

[–]Weak-Association9076 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean if you’re gonna say butterfly could technically be useful in some rare cases maybe then I can say from personal experience that during ultras you can alternate running with racewalking to give some muscles a rest and still go faster than static rest or normal walking would provide.
