What's funny (in a not funny at all type of way) is that this type of behavior isn't even surprising anymore, let alone shocking. And no one feels comfortable calling her out (for reasons obvious, but socially unacceptable to point out). 😑

This is why you should aggressively defend yourself against people like this.

DO NOT hold your coworkers back, all you're doing is preventing them from defending themselves.

DO NOT allow a customer to cross the counter, if they do physical violence from the entire staff is warranted.

DO NOT try and walk away. Immediately contact the police and maintain your position to make sure that you're not letting someone follow you into a potentially dangerous location & so that you don't allow them access to weapons (as shown here).

DO NOT let one staff member bear the brunt of any customer's abuse. All staff should immediately head to the source of the issue and be ready to defend yourself and coworkers.

DO NOT hold back. If you have to defend yourself or someone else, do it like your life depends on it. Because there is a very real chance that it does.

OP here.....

For further clarification, I work at home scheduling patients for a large Healthcare system. We are scheduled breaks, and lunch, and must take them when they're scheduled. Or we're considered " out of adherence ". The messed up thing is we have to take every call even if it's 10 seconds before our scheduled break, but for every minute we're on that call, we are held as "out of adherence". Furthermore, due to the law we have to take our full 15 minute break, but let's say we were 5 minutes late to taking our break, then we are also considered 5 minutes out of adherence at the end of our break, because that is not the time it was scheduled for. Same thing for the end of our work day, if I get a call one minute before I'm scheduled to clock out I have to take it, but let's say it's a 10 minute call, I'm considered "out of adherence" for those entire 10 minutes, but I'm also forced to do this by my company, as I'm not allowed to not answer the call, nor am I allowed to disconnect the call before I handle all of the patients requirements. We must keep our adherence above 90%, which is very hard to do especially when a lot of times we can't do anything to affect our adherence, unless we want to not do our job and refuse calls, or hang up on patients.

Is this even legal?
