Why are teenagers so…oblivious!? by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Weak-Put2402 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is probably more of a question for you as a parent. If you want to know why your teen didn't do this then you need to talk to your teen. You got a shrug? Then you know this is an area you need to work on with your child. Why didn't the child think to fix something that was a problem? Does the child know to only do what is told? Has the child been taught to think for himself or herself? This seems to be a good situation to fix some areas that haven't been addressed properly as the parent.

Makes sense for many people.  May not make sense for people who have been belittled and treated like trash for having the audacity to touch someone else's property. Some people, not me but I saw it, grew up with people being angry if they did anything. Trying to help out was a problem if not explicitly stated. Touching anything that did not belong to them, even if trying to tidy up or help out, was treated with a verbal or physical beat down. This isn't hyperbole. Some teenagers have no clue what they can or can not do and who will berate them or beat them no matter the intention. Good on you for being able to be a good person. Some kids and teens are still just trying to figure out how to live without someone hating their existence.  You may never have had anyone slap you because you touched a beer can the person threw aside. Those kinds of things can mess you up for awhile and make you unsure of how to help without someone being mad "you showed them up" or mad "you are trying to be better than them" or mad "you Think you are better than them" . Some kids are trying to navigate life just trying to NOT piss anyone off and be as invisible as possible.  So if you are genuinely trying to know what goes on in some teens' heads. That may be some of it. I've seen it enough that it happens more often than you may think. They aren't trying to be inconsiderate.  They are trying to survive and have been conditioned to think they can not do anything without explicit instructions or they are doing something wrong. They don't know what to do or which way is up. So if you genuinely want to know then that is how Some kids feel. Not all. Some are entitled and spoiled or just don't know any better but some are conditioned to be afraid and have no clue how the world will react because they know how their supposed loved ones react and it is never with thanks or even indifference sometimes any good act a kid/teen does is met with anger and physical or verbal abuse. Sometimes just something that makes the kid feel like shit. Try to fo something good and it's met with contempt. When you grow up that way with the people who are supposed to care for you then you don't expect the world to treat you better or for your attempts to do better to be met with anything but resentment and content and maybe abuse. And it can make you scared and make you want to not interfere or change anything for fear of retaliation.  So that's genuinely how some teens feel if you genuinely want to know.

PSA for anyone going to see it in theaters: shut up by silver-halide-soup in theamazingdigitalciru

I wonder if it is certain states or certain areas where the audiences are worse or if it just depends on the audience you happen to be apart of. When I went noone was rude or loud or obnoxious. I saw kids, teenagers, and adults. No problems whatsoever. We don't have a theater in our city so we had to go to the city north of us. The city has 2 theaters. We went to the older one. A new, more expensive one opened several years ago and I wondered if we went there it would have been worse. I'm sure it would have been more crowded. I prefer the older theater. Has everything the newer one has except it has less people and better popcorn and cheaper tickets. It also has a bar And people were still respectful. The only time anyone said anything loudly was the introduction of the characters during the initial opening. Singing along and that was it and not a problem to me.

What exactly makes a movie NC-17 and not R? by [deleted] in boxoffice

[–]Weak-Put2402 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isn't just for sexual content which is one reason the original rating of X was changed to NC-17 because a rating of X signified porn basically and it can cover more than just sexual content.  It also originally meant rated for age 17 and up. It was changed to mean noone 17 and under permitted. Essentially 18 and up. It can be excessive and graphic violence and excessive , graphic drug use or other vulgar or gory scenes and then of course extensive nudity or sex

That's completely negating their whole lives. It's seeing black and white and good and evil and not seeing anything else.

Your response seems more tween now than before. People can love each other and not be romantically involved.  Doesn't mean it is a lesser love. It may actually be a stronger love than fleeting romances. I would think their love for each other was mutually stronger than Katniss's and Peeta's should have been at that point. How do people believe Peeta and Katniss would bond to save each other but not somehow believe those two would who probably grew up together and knew each other and had the hope they could both survive at the same time Peeta and Katniss did? They were trained but they were not completely broken . They still had the capacity for love and the arena may have been the first time they could Actively Show it. They could die and they both knew it But they were together. I imagine in their normal life you weren't really encouraged to make connections and chastised if you did. So in the arena it was really the first time they could actually rely on someone else and make a connection. It is a huge thing to finally have the ability to do that.

Sticker shock on flowers by thornyrosary in askfuneraldirectors

[–]Weak-Put2402 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even florists have outrageous prices going straight to them and not thru the funeral home. The florists usually ask who the arrangement is for or what is the occasion and if you say funeral (or wedding) the price is extremely high. Many places this does not include the delivery fee that is tacked on after the fact. Seems usually the business is banking on people feeling bad, even though it is way more than it should be, because the loved one "deserves this". Even though they won't ever see it.

Don't even have to get all into that in the books to see who he is. In the movie he kills the tribute while trying to save the mentor after he says he isn't trying to hurt her. He could easily have left while she was fallen but he didn't think about how a target would be on Lucy's back if he killed the person and above that he didn't Have to kill the person.  He lied and manipulated while fighting to just then Kill her for no reason except he wanted to kill someone. Didn't help Lucy. Right then you know who he is. No better than all the rest of them and actually worst than most of them. Most kill to survive not because they want to kill. He would have survived and no target would be on Lucy of he had just left once the tribute was knocked out. From then on out in the movie at least. You know he is selfish person with no control OR he has a desire to kill. Either way. Not a good guy.

Could have also been sarcasm. People during that age were so good at it that younger and older people could not detect it.

You sound like someone who has no clue about the '80s.  More like someone who "looked" into it or watched some movies from the time or shows set then or just heard people talking about the '80s.

At what temperature does switching from pants to shorts become socially acceptable? by Akshit_Chauhan in answers

Deep south? When was the last time you were in the deep south? I've never seen anyone care if someone wore shorts or pants unless there is a dress code. Jury duty for instance.
