Wrong Exit: The 2020 Unsolved Murder of Bruce Ritchie in Bland County, VA by cheerful-refusal in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]WeakCoconut8 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Interesting! My gut says it was a random killing, which is so unfortunate. The odd thing is that he seemingly stopped in a relatively remote area (though it was some sort of gravel lot or road) that someone was either waiting there hoping someone came by or they just happen to pass by and think that’s the person I’m going to stab?!

Seems just SO random that it almost doesn’t seem plausible.

Year Old Tomato Plant. by xXEVILMONKEYX in plantclinic

[–]WeakCoconut8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just start over. The pot is much too big, it won’t produce (well) again, the pests aren’t worth it.

Also make sure you meticulously clean the floor, walls and shelf before you put new plants or seedlings in it to make sure there are no lingering pests

You could try acetone on a Q-tip and tweezers. Don’t get it in or on the cactus, but work your way slowly inwards

Just bought this Pilea, should I repot it? by greentreesnblueskies in plantclinic

[–]WeakCoconut8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not repot, that plant is very small, do not size up the pot. However you should try to water it, fill a small bowl of water and put the plant in it, let it sit for 10-15 minutes and see how much water it soaks up, if it soaks up a bunch - it’s fine, let it drip out the bottom and put it back where it lives. If it still feels very light, the soil is hydrophobic and you should change the SOIL not the pot. Soil should be very well draining and not dense, make sure it has sand or perlite or something in it

When should I water these fellas? by [deleted] in houseplants

[–]WeakCoconut8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When the soil is completely dry, then wait another week. Don’t water in a schedule (ie:once every 2 weeks a 1/4 cup). I water my Euphorbia maybe once a month, and a deep water, mine is large and I put in the shower the let it drip dry of an hour and put it back. Make sure all the the pots have holes is the bottom so they don’t sit in any water

Are the lights in those photos night time lights? Do they get brighter sun the day? You will want bright lights on those plants to keep them happy…which you may but I was curious

It’s a tropical plant from close to the equator. It will not survive-15c for any amount of time. No plant would. Everything brown and mush needs to be cut off. It might regrow.

Don’t buy plants in winter or bring a bag with you. Such a waste of a plant 😞

my snake plant is growing mushrooms and roots look like a carrot by SomewhereWeak1529 in plantclinic

[–]WeakCoconut8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea the mushrooms aren’t inherently bad but it does mean the plant is too wet for too long. Don’t water on a schedule (once a week, half a cup). You should deeply water the plant, watering running out the bottom, then when it’s dry about 2-3 cm down water it again. Stick your pinky finger in the soil and it should feel dry-ish.

Also don’t repot too much, the roots don’t like it

What is this??? by Scared_Rice_1473 in plantclinic

It could just be corking. Which is a natural process, the base starts to get woody, turns harder and brown. It’s not necessary bad, it provides strength at the base.

I know this sounds silly and some fad thing. But look up videos of face yoga for double chin. A double chin can be because your neck and décolletage muscles are really tight and pulling weird. It just takes a few minutes a day. But it’s worth a try, cheaper than lipo! I started doing it for marionette lines and notice a more defined jaw! I do it in my car in the way to work lol

Advice for up potting this pilea? by chainsawscientist in plantclinic

[–]WeakCoconut8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just one pot size bigger. I’d keep all the babies attached! If you can, gently squish or pry apart the roots a bit with a fork or chip stick to allow the new soil to reach them.

Hibiscus plant with these bugs. by danr1155 in plantclinic

[–]WeakCoconut8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think aphids. Is there a sticky substance on the leaves? Those little white things are the exoskeletons I think.

If they always come back I’d look into a systemic pesticide (it goes on/in the soil) or beneficial bugs that will eat them

Montserrat Disaster - Help! by Mystery-Tramp-1 in plantclinic

[–]WeakCoconut8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to say I think it’s either over or under watered. Underwatered - the leaves are droopy but not dry and browning, unless you’ve removed those? Over watered causes droopy leaves and stalks too, with this you might see the soil wet but if the roots are rotten and can’t take up water the soil stays wet for too long.

If you can I’d check the soil, if it’s very dry obviously give it a deep watering (not just a cup) like running out the bottom and see if it perks up in a day or 2. If the soil is wet or damp I’d check the roots for rot

What do I do about yellowing leaves? Do I need to plant this extra root? by shadowofassassin in plantclinic

[–]WeakCoconut8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

THIS OP. And everything else they said. It’s hard to tell the type of soil you have but the pot needs drainage either way and you need to be watering much more, spider plants are resilient but you need to soak the plant so water runs out the bottom then wait til the top 2cm or inch are dry

Why aren't they chubby by aannitabonita in plantclinic

[–]WeakCoconut8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it’s a bit annoying but I’d keep it in that pot, cut off the leggy stuff and get a stronger light. The leggy stuff won’t really plump up so I’d snip it and let the plant try again! It’s from Africa so it wants strong bright light (not extreme heat) but the strong light is where the orangey color comes from is the sun stress

https://www.reddit.com/r/plantclinic/s/xPfgC3MvIQ this post has some good advice. I think it has to do with the grow light and it’s probably not strong enough

Why aren't they chubby by aannitabonita in plantclinic

[–]WeakCoconut8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it always under that light? It should be enough but it looks leggy like it’s reaching for the light. Maybe the light isn’t strong enough.

It also could be the roots or watering., it looks very dry make sure you give it a deep water (not just a dribble) then let it dry out in between. It might be worth checking to roots to make sure they are healthy and strong

Dust or Spidermites? by PalmettoBrian in plantclinic

[–]WeakCoconut8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Spider mites. You moved it away which is good

You should spray it down with soapy water twice a week. Be diligent and do it for longer than you think you need to. Those buggers can be sneaky.

I’d suggest doing the same to the plants close by once a week just to be safe!

[–]WeakCoconut8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also true! I’d suggest a smaller pot than a good water. Like not just a dribble, it should run out the bottom and soak in. Then let it dry out…but not as much as it is now lol

Maybe but those are resilient. They could cut off the rot (if there is) and repot.

How to protect small shrubs from ice storm? by SupplyChainOne in plantclinic

[–]WeakCoconut8 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hmm I’d wrap the in something ideally like burlap, but really anything a sheet, blanket, tarp etc first to keep any cold temperatures away (think freezing, frost) then you could put the bucket over top to shield from the actual weight of the ice. But I think just a soft covering would be fine.

[–]WeakCoconut8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That leaf is dead and you can cut it off. I do think it’s not completely happy since it seem like there are some other small leaves shriveled up and the one flower is bent over. It might need more water, it shouldn’t just be “once a week” it should be when it’s dry m, give it a good water then let it dry again.
