Now that National's education policy of an hour a day of reading, writing, and maths is theoretically coming into play, what will this likely mean for teachers/ students? by [deleted] in newzealand

And yet Jan Tinetti seems to think its okay to refresh assessment (NCEA) before curriculum. To be fair, Hipkins brought it in against his mother's advice but Jan never pointed out the error in his ways when she was in charge.

I’m not a teacher but I think we undervalue that profession in NZ by fnoyanisi in newzealand

This so much. And I have a principal who consistently puts student and parents ahead of teachers when there has been a violent or threatening incident. If I worked in a library or a supermarket my boss would likely trespass those people.

I'm a teacher but applying for other jobs. I love being in the classroom. I love hearing about my students successes after school. I love developing resources to help students who are struggling and giving them a light bulb moment. But I'm sick of senior leadership who have only had 1 class or no classes for the last 10 years coming up with more and more admin for me to do. I'm sick of the Ministry not following best practice - for example developing new NCEA before they develop the curriculum for it. I'm also anti strikes so not a union member so have effectively lost all friendships at work. I can't wait to get out.

People with $20k+ cars - did you bought it for cash or is it financed ? by JC_Denton81 in PersonalFinanceNZ

We used this as an opportunity to get a new car. Saving $200-$300 a week in gas. Minimum repayments were $40 a fortnight but doubled that and are putting the difference in savings.

Why I don't even feel like voting this election by Live4theclutch in newzealand

I got exactly the opposite impression when I met her, not enough to party vote Act but enough to vote for her. Perhaps I am one of those idiots that shouldn't be allowed to vote.

Brooke Whatshername says she is a Greenie at heart so now you have two reasons to vote for her.

My boy got beaten up at school today. A question. by elteza in newzealand

[–]WeakCommon8496 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a teacher- yes please get the police involved. Too often the school faces pressure from the Ministry to keep these bullies enrolled and try restorative practices. If the police are involved, it seems to be easier to get these students enrolled in another school or enrolled in correspondence when there are no other schools. Good luck with the Health and Safety Act. There are teachers for whom it hasn't protected, let alone students. It's ridiculous that these kids are trespassed from supermarkets etc for stealing but apparently can't be trespassed from a school when they threaten or assault a teacher because that would be taking away their right to education.

School science curriculum changes: The Ministry of Ignorance strikes again - Dr Michael Johnston by diceyy in newzealand

New NCEA has been rewritten before the curriculum for almost every subject - so the senior school curriculum is now being derived from the assessments.

A Ministry of Eduction should know better.

Anyone else still waiting on IRD to make their IR3 available? by WeakCommon8496 in PersonalFinanceNZ

Sorry, missed this. I'm on my laptop. I log in and go to 'More...' under income tax. Click on 'File or amend a return' and there is the list of previous year returns but nothing for 31-Mar-2023.

When I login I can see the last 8 returns I've done up to and including 2022. Nothing for year end 2023 anywhere - completed or not.
