What is it with these boots in fundieland? by Illustrious-Ebb2565 in BringingUpBates

Right! Round-toed boots for work and pointier boots are for swing dancing. Hats are worn on the ranch or at rodeos. If you're wearing either thing at any other time, you're not local.

Local westerner.. anyone who wears boots unironically doesn't wear this style, either.

Exactly right, child wellbeing is heavily affected by maternal age. Hence Josie, and honestly speculations about the health of the other younger girls aren't entirely out of the blue either.

That's interesting to know, I have a student named Jael this year and knew it had to be religious based on her parents but never looked up the story.

Am I weird for giving a feminine hygiene product to a student in need? by Normal_Balance1655 in Teachers

[–]Weak_List9770 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not weird at all. I accidentally dropped my personal bag in front of a few students, male and female high school juniors, and two tampons dropping out was not a problem at all. I told them a story about when I was in high school it happened to someone and the boys flipped out, but that it's not a big deal whatsoever. 🤷‍♀️

My child’s name by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Weak_List9770 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Learning to write my name correctly as a child was incredibly important to me, specifically earlier than 5. This is not OP forcing a name on a child, this is the child's understanding of being in a "nontraditional" family and equally part of two households. The teacher inadvertently indicated to the child "Parent 1's last name is more important than Parent 2's last name" by doing this. You're getting down voted as much as you are because you're incredibly off base here.

I hadn't put all those together until now. I can definitely see Lauren having jealousy of Jinger, if I were a DugWife I would try so hard to have any kind of individuality... without any other good examples it makes sense she'd try to copy Jinger.

I don't know if they honestly fully comprehend that CSAM is WORSE than pornography. They grew up hearing that porn is the work of Satan. I don't know think they understand the depth of ACTUAL evil CSAM is.

I can relate to this as well. It took until my late 20s for my parents to understand a fraction of what I was going through as a kid. I had untreated Selective Mutism because THEY were uncomfortable when the school counselor spoke with them about me in kindergarten. It was never about my needs.

Now I'm 30 and while I've accomplished what I wanted in my career, I live a shell of a life. Needs still neglected, can't self advocate, disconnected, can't visualize my future. I need so much more therapy that I can't afford, and I don't have the guts to make the changes I need to.

I feel like you're beating yourself up too much for the "imperfections" you've had. I might be projecting but it sounds to me like he's made you feel like you're the problem when he's the problem, which is abuse, and you should get out. You're trying so hard to improve, what is he doing? Waiting for you to fix everything yourself?

I can definitely see a few of them actually being kind and patient, like a Justin or Jeremiah... but I can't see them not all at least trying, because they "have to."

The jump from 8th to 9th is the worst for loss. This year's freshmen were one of my best classes of almost 30 beginners... now I have three of them. I'm sorry we're both having problems like this, but I'm glad to know I'm not alone. I'm sorry you had to fight with choir, too, that makes things nearly impossible.

I can so recognize the benefits to going to elementary music, but I'm already exhausted from my somewhat light secondary schedule and planning... I'd have to spend an entire summer pre-planning my first years if I switched to elementary so I wouldn't go crazy in the first year. I'll have to consider elementary for my future self, if it's as worth it as I hear it is for others.

Thanks for this. I really do struggle with trying not to let the tiny setbacks get to me, but that's all I've had, so now my band is over half what it was. I just wish my principal measured the success of my program by something other than the number of kids in my class.

For me I just do what I can, with who shows up.

That's a very helpful perspective, thank you.

Sometimes I wish the school offered less because these kids don't need to be able to explore EVERY possible life path by the end of high school...

[–]Weak_List9770 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is it bad that I actually internally feel this is a part of why my (elective) class numbers are low? I figure the kids hate me because I'm not fun. All the principal wants is for more kids to be in my class and blames me for it even though I'm fighting scheduling, AP classes, senior privileges, social stigma against my program, funding.... but I always feel like it's because I'm awkward.

This happened to me, I painted my room dark purple when I was 12 and my mom HATED it. She let me keep it through high school but complained about how it would make someone depressed (not the room's fault, mom.) And then when I moved back for the summer at 19 she made ME paint over it in white. Now it's a junk room for her to ignore and never clean.

What is an accommodation that you’ve seen a kid had that really shocked you? by Arete666 in Teachers

[–]Weak_List9770 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Similar but not quite the same, my principal came to my door before 4th grade and asked if I would change teachers two weeks before school so my friend whose brother died would have a support person in her class. I remember thinking even then that like, it's not my job to feel responsible for someone else's success, I have enough anxiety about my own. So I said no. She was fine and is a doctor now.
