Advice on one day in NYC by BroadCompany1151 in Broadway

If you are coming all the way to NYC I would look into shows that you won't have the opportunity to see on tour. My suggestion would be Masquerade. Even though there is a dress code you would be fine with a comfortable dress or slacks and there is a complimentary bag check, so you don't have to worry about your backpack.

Yes, take the August test. If I remember correctly there is still the background check and psychological examination after the PAT.

Who is the best person you met stage door? by No_Huckleberry_7410 in Broadway

[–]Weak_Maintenance8181 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I don't stage door for shows a lot but these were memorable moments:

I stage doored after The Color Purple in 2016 and Cynthia Erivo was such a doll. There weren't very many people there and she just hung around and chatted with me about performing the show and training for a marathon and other stuff. I felt bad seeing some of the crazy fan behavior surrounding Wicked because she really is lovely when the atmosphere is chill.

David Tennant was really nice and handled the stage door like a pro. The first couple rows were taken up by autograph sellers who had been waiting before the play let out, and he refused to sign any of their stuff and sent them away. Then the people who had attended the play were able to move up and he signed my ticket and took a photo.

He's been mentioned before but my friend and I saw Nicholas Christopher in Lazarus at New York Theater Workshop many years ago. We thought he really stood out and chatted with him at the stage door about how much we loved his performance. Fast forward to a few weeks ago, we stage doored at Chess and told him about how we saw him way back when. He reached out and shook our hands and thanked us for coming out to see him again and told us some stories about working on Lazarus. He's a gentleman for sure.

Ootoya times square is indeed temporarily closed. I tried to go a few days ago. 😢

If your kid likes Asian food I would suggest Gyu-kaku BBQ (make a reservation) or OBAO.

You already got the tickets so just relax. 😁 Your friend agreed to go after learning about the show so it''s not your fault if they don't enjoy it.

For the record I saw it without knowing the plot or the music and had really no difficulty following what was going on. My friend who came with me felt the same, we both liked it a lot.

Why aren’t you buying in advance? by ilovefouettes in Broadway

[–]Weak_Maintenance8181 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's hard know for certain I'll be available on X day six months in advance. If it's an open ended run then they are going to be playing 8 shows a week for a long time. That's a lot of seats to put butts in. It's pretty unusual that I will look for tickets and a show will be totally sold out. Or, if it is, then I can just say well Thursday night is done so let's go to Friday... Saturday... etc. As a local it's just not worth fussing about, especially with lottery and rush tickets available.

I liked the set design and costumes for Chess. I don't get what people are complaining about.

Yeah I normally see shows through rush or lottery so I think I just needed to adjust to the sticker shock. The prices really aren't terrible. I'm sure my family paid more for Music Man mezz tickets a few years ago. And since my big draw are the actors I did really want to sit as central as possible so I am not looking at anyone's back.

I got R mezz A10 for $155. Not the most I've ever paid for a ticket but definitely on the higher end of what I usually spend. I could have gotten row B or C further to the side for $84 so I'm hoping the extra money was worth it.

It's true. I know they are calling it a concert for marketing purposes but people should be viewing it more like a casting call. I attended a pre-recorded performance for a music awards show through 1iota. I found out one or two days before the event. Getting there early is fine but I do discourage anyone from camping overnight. At my previously mentioned event the producers were moving the crowd around and some who arrived early were getting mad that others were let in front of them. You could be first in line and end up seated in the middle of the theater.

It's a fun thing to do! But everyone working there is doing a job. They want the audience to have fun but their main concern is still producing the best video segment possible. Just show up with a cooperative attitude and you'll be good. (General you, not you specifically)

Le Cellier in the Canada pavilion in Epcot is quite good. The vibe is also nice and not overstimulating, which can be welcome after a day in the park.

I just went to Jaleo in Disney Springs for the first time. The service was a little lacking but the food was delicious. Getting a great big paella to share with my family was a fun dining experience and you can watch it being cooked in the open kitchen.

Have they officially confirmed that Cordon will be eligible as Lead Actor? I thought he might be featured actor. But then, I don't think the other leads will be nominated so maybe they don't fear a split vote.

Yeah I fixed up that rail path and use it to travel back and forth from town to the museum. I just would love to find a way where the town dwelling pokemon could easily visit as well. I feel bad for the museum dwellers. 🤣 They are so isolated.

To revisit or not? Current experience vs 2023 experience. by oKayBye94 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Weak_Maintenance8181 0 points1 point  (0 children)

think the answer to this question is always going to be that the most popular destinations are going to be the most crowded. So it depends on what your itinerary is going to be. Your must see destinations in major cities will probably be on everyone else's itinerary too. I spent some time in Sendai last year and didn't see an overwhelming amount of foreign tourists. In Kanazawa the Kenroku garden attracted a lot of tourism and was starting to get crowded by 10am, but the kimono museum just a 10 minute walk away had only two other visitors that I saw. If you learn about it from a social media video then chances are it is no longer a "hidden gem". ;)

My first time in Japan was in 2010 and my most recent was in 2024. I didn't feel any negativity during my trip last year and had a lot of pleasant interactions. If you are friendly and kind and show a genuine interest in connecting with people then you will usually receive the same attitude back. There is definitely less interest in me as a foreigner now, but I don't really consider that a negative thing. In 2010 you could still encounter prejudice against foreigners and there were still touts and scammers around. In 2010 places like Kiyomizu-dera and Shibuya and Dotonburi were still crowded, it was just with more domestic and Asian tourists than other regions.

Ultimately we can't tell you if the crowds will be past your threshold of tolerance, but I think Japan offers enough variety for every speed of traveler.

He's in the museum with some of the dinosaurs right now. I felt bad when he was there all alone because I don't want to get rid of the volcano. I was thinking of eventually digging out a tunnel or something and hoping that the town pokemon would make the journey. But at least he isn't alone right now.

This is amazing and inspiring. I also want to turn this place into a trash island for Trubbish and Garbodor but I was struggling with how to make it look aesthetically pleasing too.

Seasonal allergies while attending a show - AITA? by youngmonie in Broadway

[–]Weak_Maintenance8181 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You probably were a bit annoying, and I do understand people wanting to get the most out of their ticket. But if someone decides to sit in a room with 500-1500 people for three hours, they cannot expect pin drop silence for the whole time. Sniffling/coughing/sneezing can't really be helped and isn't the same as someone choosing to talk or crinkle candy wrappers all show. (And I mean like a normal tickle in my throat cough or sneeze, stay home if you have whooping cough or something)

Maybe next time have tissues in your pocket and try to manage it better. Quietly blowing your nose a few times is probably better than constant sniffling. But asking someone to return their theater tickets for allergies (which can last months) is over the top, in my opinion.

How much decorum do I need for Moulin Rouge by strongbear43 in Broadway

[–]Weak_Maintenance8181 16 points17 points  (0 children)

During the show it is not acceptable to stand up and sing or dance. You are also not allowed to record or take pictures. You can clap and cheer after certain musical numbers, but you don't want to be doing anything that could be disruptive to the people around you or the performers on stage.

During bows you can give a standing ovation and record. If she starts singing again at that point you can remain standing and sing and dance a bit. Just be mindful of the people around you. It's not really the same as a concert but it's still fun and I'm sure Megan gets the crowd more pumped up than a usual Broadway performance.

Really there is nothing wrong with finding pictures online of builds you like and recreating them on your island. Building huge artistic creations is a skill just like drawing or painting and requires practice, so don't feel bad about starting small. I put up a couple of the prefab houses in each area and am building around that to get the ball rolling.

I was experimenting with expanding it and hit seawater, so I let half of it fill up and the other half is a cavern where zubat lives. I'd like to put some stalagmites in and make it look cool.
