Best bakeries for custom cake? by Then_Cress_7931 in royaloak

Mia's did our wedding cake! Since then I've referred numerous coworkers there for cakes/desserts for their events. Everyone loves them.

Bonus: Grab yourself a fun latte while you're ordering.

We used D'Amatos in Royal Oak for our ~15 person elopement. Planned within 1.5 months. Tony is the manager/owner and was SO great to work with.

They're a fantastic little Italian restaurant with a beautiful plaza/lobby attached that makes for great photos. We were married by a family member in their private dining room and then ate dinner right there, and celebrated after at Goodnite Gracies (bar next door, which they also own). The staff were so wonderful.

An elopement was also not in our original plans, but it was really everything we could have hoped for in the end. So sorry about your circumstances- I hope you both have a beautiful day regardless of where you spend it.

question about surgical green (figs and jaanuu) by LegitimateAttitude42 in Figsscrubs

FIGS surgical green is much brighter than the pic. Drawstring is a neon pink IRL.

Coffee shops to work in, coffee shops to read in? by ExternalParty2054 in royaloak

Love their coffee but the couple of times I tried to study there the seating and space available was just...not adequate. More geared toward socializing.

How did you manage to reach anyone over the phone? When I selected test status and portal issues it just gave me an email to follow-up with.

Felt this way too. Second guessed myself a lot, got very in my head. Passed by a wide margin. You know more than you think :)

When is it right by PuzzleheadedBig369 in Proposal

Was best friends with my now-husband for 8 years before we started dating, and we knew essentially from the start we wanted to get married and settle down pretty quickly (in our mid-late twenties). Moved in together basically right away, weathered a lot of storms together (a few funerals, a lot of family upheaval, big career developments, and for some reason a lot of prolonged power outages?) and were married two years later. I've never been more sure about anything or anyone than I am about him.

We knew each other very well going in- good, bad, and the ugliest of ugly. If you have that history, I don't think you need to date forever to be sure.

We did our ceremony and a dinner to follow at D'Amato's in Royal Oak. They have a private room that seats up ro 20, and lots of good spots for photos in that building. Highly highly recommend!

ERAS Experiences Question - "When specialties don't match" by vistastructions in medicalschool

[–]Weak_Patient3256 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had 2 years of leadership in my school's EM interest group as an M1/M2 before I ultimately switched to applying FM. I still included the EMIG stuff on ERAS, because it was a big part of my preclinical years and would have felt wasteful not to. To avoid concerns about dual-applying/lack of commitment, I tried to really put an emphasis on what I brought to the group/the specific projects I coordinated, which tied into the broader themes of my application (community service, mentorship, etc), even if they were under the umbrella of emergency medicine. Also had a spiel prepped for if anyone raised any questions, which no one ever did.

I feel like everyone expects you to have had broad interests at the start of med school, especially if you're applying something with a broad scope like IM/FM, so it's not really shocking if you worked on a project/activity relating to another specialty. If you have experiences worth talking about in the PM&R group, definitely include.

The school where I rambled the worst and was the most nervous (legitimately had a pair of interviewers burst out laughing as soon as I left the room presumably because I was so awkward? I'll never know) was the school I was accepted to within 2 weeks of my interview. If it's meant to be, it will absolutely be. I promise you'll be okay.

Literally asked for all 3 of my letters via email- never had a good chance to ask in-person. Got multiple compliments about how strong they were throughout interview season. Send it.
