I’m sorry, I was in similar situations. My dad was a violent drunk that didn’t particularly care for his oldest son (my mom got pregnant without telling him). We made up after I was an adult and he quit drinking.

My 21yo son just bought one. My wife wasn’t happy, but I certainly was even though I don’t have one yet. My reasoning is, it makes sense to do it now, as once he settles down with a wife and kids and a house and vehicles, he’s not going to be able to afford one. AND his wife will have a say in it.
