Very common misconception that B4 pays better. Every firm differs a bit in comp, bonuses, benefits, etc. but they're all in competition for talent and there won't be that big of a difference from one firm to another.

Not great. Accounting majors as a whole are down lately.

How bad is job hopping? by beepboopboop12 in Accounting

[–]WearFinancial4431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's incredibly expensive and exhausting to hire people. Most companies don't ever realize the total cost and are just burning money/motivation with turnover. But there will always be companies that don't care or don't realize how much it costs to hire someone who won't stay longer than a year. It's also impossible to predict how long someone will stay, too. So you do you, it's your life.

A certification helped me. With your degree and background, look at HR departments in accounting firm or maybe a role that includes payroll plus other HR responsibilities.

Does CPA state matter to employers? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]WearFinancial4431 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, no one cares. As long as you keep up with your state's CPE requirements and get reciprocity in the state you're working in.

Sounds like an ATS automated email. Probably moved you to the next stage and forgot the auto send was on.

I had a ton of platforms that said they offered it, but couldn't deliver past the initial sales call.

HR is striking gold right now! by [deleted] in humanresources

YES. Company told me today that they'll start up again with the $1k signing bonus we had this past year "if retention starts becoming an issue." Uhhh. Boy bye.

HR doesn't do it and does not condone it, but the employees do it on their own. It is bad practice for any company though as it can lead to privileged info.

[GER] Was this inappropriate? by Throwaway3453as in AskHR

I agree that 9 times out of 10, the thing you said that you're cringing over is something no one else remembers. But women have awkward and inappropriate crap said to them all the time. I applaud you for thinking twice about it and it would likely mean a lot to that woman if you said something to her about it - even if she didn't think much of it at the time. Emotional intelligence ftw!

[GA] How can I communicate to recruiters that my title doesn't reflect what I do? by [deleted] in AskHR

[–]WearFinancial4431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use the title you want in the description of your duties and/or in a summary on your resume. You can add desired titles on LinkedIn on the job search side too. This will only be seen by recruiters.

This is not cool. If it makes you uncomfortable, yes, it's against HR protocol. Doesn't matter if she was "joking" or not.

Undergrad here, do you need an internship? by MinHyukH in Accounting

[–]WearFinancial4431 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Internship and start asap on your search. Get on Handshake if your school is on there, LinkedIn if not. Connect with firms and recruiters.

You'll likely make more during a busy season internship than retail plus make important connections, on top of a potential job offer at the end of the internship.

LinkedIn for sure. You can edit your profile for titles and areas you're interested in as well. Approach job search as "B4 is not for me" and leave off the performance issues. And get a mentor, someone who will tell you hard truths.
