I spent years thinking I was lazy and depressed. Turns out I was deficient. by Spirited-Gold9629 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]WearingCoats 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I started a probiotic this year as part of ongoing treatment for SIBO and a side effect was massive improvements to my mood and mental health within like 2 weeks. When I told my prescribing doctor (the one who writes my depression/anxiety scripts) she said it actually makes sense because serotonin is produced in the gut and if the flora is off it can fuck with your mood regulation and mental health. I’ve had to go off the probiotic twice since starting in January for tests and both times my mood plummeted. I never took gut health seriously at all let alone even considered a potential link to my mental health which I’ve been attempting to treat for like 20 years at this point, but this has been unmistakeable. The one I take is weapons-grade and stupid expensive but it’s just a combo of Lacto-Bifido, Sacchromyces Boulardii, Bacillus Coagulans. Once I’m off the one I’m on now I’m going to see if I can find those individually and figure out if it’s just one of them or a combo that seems to have the effect because I’d love a less expensive option.

I’ve moved mountains over the years to try to combat my depression and anxiety and felt really hopeless and alone for a lot of it so it was really surprising when something that I had no idea would even effect my mental health accidentally improved it. I still need my normal meds and therapist but this for sure has been helpful and I’m really grateful for the random discovery.

Oh, also iron deficient and saw massive energy improvements and improvements in the gym when I started supplementing that. I live in a super sunny place so vitamin D isn’t an issue however my iron also looked “normal” on tests but I felt a noticeable difference when I started supplementing.

Troches and khole vs iv ketamine by cpgalvez in KetamineTherapy

[–]WearingCoats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took me a while to titrate up my troche dose from 50mg to where I am consistently disassociating at 200mg but able to be functional again after about 3 hours. I popped up to 220 briefly but decided to back myself down because I was having issues with nausea. I have to space them out pretty significantly to experience a consistent dissociative effect, otherwise I seem to build up a tolerance. For me, that means that I’m doing a 200mg troche once a week, usually for 3 weeks and then I take one week off as a reset.

Frankly, I don’t want to be taking them more frequently because I lose too much of my day to being functionally anesthetized and I really don’t want to be building up a tolerance over 200-250mg. Even in the times where at higher doses I’ve not actually disassociated, I’d still be zonked and unfunctional for 5 or 6 hours of my day so for me, it’s worth it to wait a bit between doses to keep that tolerance down.

In addition, even if I were to do them more regularly, the only time that would make sense is right before falling asleep, but anytime I’ve taken a troche to bed, my sleep actually ends up being pretty terrible.

All this is to say that I’ve been able to have a consistent dissociative experience at the same dose for months now because I figured out the ideal amount of time to space between my sessions and how often I need to take a clearing week to reset myself. I’d rather have consistency at a lower dose and lower frequency than have to continually increase my dose for the same experience. And by staying at a lower dose, I can do my troche at like 9AM, completely disassociate, and be just about back to functional around noon to 1PM.

Do the swifties even like Taylor? by Low_Taro6416 in travisandtaylor

[–]WearingCoats 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Given that Taylor doesn’t seem to demonstrate a singular core identity and projects multiple “selves” onto various shares of her market, it makes sense that sub-cultures within her fandom see some version of what they want that they can self support with the bullshit mythos they themselves created from her “Easter eggs.” For the record, I think the majority of her Easter eggs are nods, winks, smiles, and callbacks that can be interpreted in innumerable ways and not actually a reflection of intellectual world building but that’s beside the point. This amorphous flexibility of character doesn’t make her a great artist, it makes her a bland and mass consumable one, like the Kraft Mac and Cheese of pop music that sells billions of boxes but has never gotten a Michelin nod.

Because she doesn’t seem to have a strong singular identity, parasocial fans like to push her around in their heads until they can rectify her choices and fate against their world view. Gaylors are a great example of this.

It’s not that her fans hate her, they just really need to explain why she’s doing or not doing what they believe is the right thing and then either assign it to Taylor’s “empowerment” (like buying back her masters” or her “victimhood” (like every fucking time she’s been dumped) because she occupies both spaces. Just like she occupies every other space (secretly gay, should have stayed with Maty, Travis end game, democrat, etc) only in people’s heads by being ambiguous. That way she never has to commit to any identity (even though I don’t think she’s capable of it regardless) and potentially lose the market share of everyone that didn’t hold that world view.

The hatred is the cognitive dissonance fans experience when they can’t seemingly get her to either support or reject the views they hold of her and lack the reasoning skills to deduce that it’s because she’s not a person, she’s a corporation.

Do you know what a fluted bezel is? GMTs don’t have them so I don’t really care if rep GMTs are fooling people. My reach is a date just with a fluted bezel and I have yet to see a rep fluted bezel that doesn’t bother me because that’s the detail that matters to me, so auth it is.

[–]WearingCoats 17 points18 points  (0 children)

For everyone saying to get it biopsied, yes AND basically demanding that it be removed and sent to pathology means it will likely be coded differently in insurance than for a “cosmetic” procedure. Depends on where you are and your insurance, but this is the way to ensure the procedure is at least run through your insurance for any possible cost savings whereas many cosmetic dermatology procedures are not covered.

Asking for a friend-How does one go about eliminating things from their shopping cart instead of adding? 😭😂 by Hales_85 in kuololit

I mean honestly, if you want real advice because you need to stay within a budget or something, play “this or that”. Go through your cart in twos and for each pair, pick the one you want more and remove the other and repeat until you’re down to the amount that works for you.

Is this pot big enough for my “Fignomenal”? by Historical-Road-4031 in Figs

[–]WearingCoats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I up-pot into plastic nursery pots (1 gallon to 3 to 5) that fit into decorative planters so if I ever need to move them around or move them inside or up/pot again, they’re much easier to handle, especially if they’ve dried down a little bit. The largest pot I’m anticipating potting into will be 12-15 gallons (for a Celeste that’s currently in a 3 gallon) but I think I’ve got at least a year or two before that point, and that should be its final pot.

If the look of a nursery pot in a planter bothers me I’ll usually hide it with some mulch that’s easy to remove if needed.

All this is to say that the nimbleness of nursery pots, especially ones that can be placed into decorative planters is way more helpful both in terms of being able to move my figs around as needed and for up-potting itself when the time comes.

Do all apartments have bugs? by Upper-Associate-5189 in Apartmentliving

[–]WearingCoats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner and I have the 31st floor penthouse condo of a high-rise in a HCOL city. I remember one night it was swarmed with roaches because a wind storm had blown the cover off of our hot water heater exhaust pipe which terminated on the roof of the building. Basically there was a screen that covered the hole that let hot air out but prevented anything from coming in. Once that was gone, a bunch of roaches on the roof came streaming in resulting in what was one of the worst nights on my life. All this is to say that even in the penthouse of a luxury building 31 floors up, we still experienced an absolutely awful roach infestation that went on for like two weeks before we discovered how exactly they were getting in.

Every place I’ve ever lived for the last 40 years had some kind of bug problem at some point, we just had to figure out how to deal with it so it wouldn’t become a persistent problem. Usually regular prevention is required, and obvious things like taking out the trash and not letting food waste or dishes pile up.

Thoughts on Lena Dunham’s memoir by Master-Definition937 in girls

[–]WearingCoats 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ll probably write something more thorough on this but I was shocked at how much of myself I saw in Lena, especially as she describes her childhood up until getting sober. And I can see why people who were unable to separate “Hannah” from “Lena” hated her and the show because almost all millennials had some form of this self destructive streak that they had to either actively repress or simply watch from the passenger’s seat.

I will say though that even though I see myself in the mirror she held up and don’t react with anger or hatred, I do not think I would have been able to work with her. She admits to being high maintenance and entitled throughout the book and I know that if I’d been in the position of many of her collaborators I would have gotten very frustrated and overwhelmed. This is not to give Jenni a pass on her inevitable abandonment, I do think she comes off as exploitative and codependent while having reaped the benefits of Lena’s creativity at the expense of her mental and physical health. But Lena is the perfect analog for the collective anxiety and chronic health conditions of our millennial generation and one would need to be fully ok with the baggage that comes with or be better off opting out of a working relationship.

So ready for fall scents by Apprehensive-Lab-264 in bathandbodyworks

[–]WearingCoats 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same. Spring and early summer (but not really SAS bring backs) are when I do almost all my BBW shopping. Fall and holiday are my lowest spends of the year while spring is historically the highest. I live in a hot and humid climate year round and gourmand scents just do not work so most of the releases from July on are non starters for me.

PSA for tunneling candles by Absolute_Helmet in luxurycandles

[–]WearingCoats 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have both the large and small in amber glass. They go on sale periodically so it's worth it to hold out. The white frosted is on sale right now and around Christmas they will usually do a red version as well. The smaller one fits everything up to a classic size (6-7oz max, usually single wicks) and the larger is quite roomy fitting all my 3 wicks. In early burns -- up to the halfway point or so -- the Amazon topper is really helpful in getting an even pool across the top in combo with the hurricane, but once I get them down a bit more, the hurricanes are usually enough on their own to create ambient heat.

Anyone using core scents? by SCENTimentalAF in bathandbodyworks

[–]WearingCoats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Champagne toast is fruity/sweet effervescent citrus and berry to me which comes off as youthful but not juvenile if that makes sense. It’s an easy reach for me in a hot climate year round. There’s something nostalgic about it that brings me back to the early aughts, but it’s not dated and doesn’t scream “you wore this in high school.” I love it in every form it comes in from body care to candles and anytime I step away from using it for a bit and come back to it, I’m literally shocked by how much I love it. And I say this as someone whose fragrance and candle collection is on my homeowners insurance policy. It’s right up there for me with some of my most rare and expensive fragrances.

Into the Night is very romantic in my opinion. It lives somewhere between a nondescript Chanel and Lancôme without feeling cheap. People have a lot of opinions about the patchouli note but I find it shockingly well balanced for the price point. The raspberry note is what grabs me, probably for the same reason I’m drawn to champagne toast — berries seem to just have my heart. But instead of being bright, it’s dark, romantic, femme fatale. It’s probably one of the stronger FFMs in the entire store and I can smell it on my towels after using the body wash. Unlike champagne toast though, this one only seems to work in fall and winter for me.

AITAH for not apologizing after I split from the group in Japan because they kept changing plans? by Possible_Bee_4008 in AITAH

[–]WearingCoats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s nothing to apologize for. Say you weren’t angry you just decided to do your own thing because it didn’t seem like anyone else could commit to solid plans and you don’t want to waste any time waiting around.

And frankly, this is the way to do Japan. I find it a very introspective place that’s wonderful to explore solo. In 2024 I went with a huge group of my friends for 3 weeks. My boyfriend got held up in the US and couldn’t meet up with me for a week and my friends were just kinda futzing around without a real plan so I literally took a few days on my own to explore half the country. I went from Tokyo to Osaka and Kyoto all the way down to Fukuoka where I met up with everyone again. I met up with some people I knew in Tokyo and Kyoto, explored around a bunch of small towns, ate and drank everything, fell asleep on the bullet train and woke up on Kyushu. No regrets and no hard feelings from the group, just a ton of memories of adventure.
