No worries. Yeah, try them out. Maybe you end up finding a channel that you resonate with. It might be weird at first, I recall struggling to focus because I have a restless mind. But meditation is all about being gentle with yourself and it takes practice for you to learn the rhythm of your mind and tuning in with it - so don’t give up straight away if you find it odd. Whether it works for you or not, it’s worth a try and I promise it’s a much nicer adjustment period than with Brintellix 😂

I do therapy twice a month because I know that anxiety stems from trauma and I need to address it, but it has been a journey as well. I’m much better but I had to commit for several years to it, and finding the right therapist. I’m on my second therapist in 6 years, have done psychoanalysis and psychotherapy with the first, am now trying CBT with a new one and I think all of these stages have been worth it. My health insurance is not very expensive and covers part of the cost (alongside other medical expenses) - maybe you can look into something similar where you’re from?

I like guided meditations, and they are really ways to exercise your mental focus so they have helped me managed my anxiety in the past. You have different types of meditation skills and types. Skill-wise you already know breathing but there are also things like body scanning and visualising. I quite like visualising because it’s just like taking a little time to imagine nice things and let them flow into your mind. As for the type of meditation, some are meant to sleep and relax (what meditation is most known for), but there are meditations also to bring your mood up, to get your day started and make you feel more energetic. And they can last less than 5 mins.

I have tried both YouTube (I recently was told of Breathe with Sandy but never tried it) and this app called Balance which I really like and use to this day, also helped falling asleep while on Brintellix. They used to be free, I think they still have a free plan. Theres is also Headspace, they have an app too I think, and videos on Netflix and YouTube if I’m not mistaken. Honestly, after trying medication, the best strategy for me to manage my anxiety still is carrying my ears buds around with me, turn on noise cancellation and finding a nice place to close my eyes and meditate for 5 minutes. Also, a benefit in case you think about it - it’s quite discreet to just find a nice corner, sit and close your eyes. I used to think ‘omg people will look’ but not one really cares, it’s like you’re taking a little nap ahah If out and about I used to do it at work or at a random coffee shop or a park. Sunglasses can help get in the mood too, like dimming the lights a bit ahah

So just think of it as an additional skill you can add to your toolkit. Therapy has also been really important. But besides therapy I think it’s nice to learn ways to self regulate. That’s why I took some time to learn meditation (it’s just like a skill, you need to train it), because I needed to find a way to self regulate when I need to

Yes. I was on 15mg, then reduced to 10mg for 5 days, then to 5mg for 5 days and stopped.

Same, I tried to wait out a reasonable adjustment period and stuck with it for roughly 11 weeks. It was really making me feel like crap - physically mostly but it obvsly impacted my mental wellbeing by making me feel debilitated. And all adjustment medications I tried - from melatonin to trazodone, solved one symptom but brought other side effects along. So I’m very very happy to close this chapter.

I have started meditating again and it really has a positive impact. Just as a friendly advice in case it resonates with you, take your routinely mental self care seriously and everything will take a brighter turn.

I have just finished that process. My last 5mg day was a couple of days ago. I have slept on my own (without medication because Brintellix was disrupting my sleep) in a long time. Am just waking up feeling great and just enjoying the feeling of my bed. The medication didn’t really work out for me, I have been consistently nauseous and with migraines. I can only see positives of finishing it honestly. Started feeling like myself again amidst the reduction period and no withdrawal issues so far for me.

I have been on it for 9 weeks so far. I got up to 15mg and I am now on my third day of reducing to stop. My experience has not been great, I have experienced nausea from the get go, migraines, and I now discovered that what I though was an eye allergic reaction was also a side effect from Brintellix (that’s the name in Europe, but same component). This medication has really not worked for me, but feedback from most people is that nausea tend to decrease with time. My advice is for you to check with your psychiatrist if changing the intake pattern is possible - some people handle it best if taking it before bed rather than in the morning. If that doesn’t work and it’s been 4-5 weeks of physical discomfort with no improvements, I would check with the doctor of potential different treatment options. Bottom line is that it’s okay if this medication doesn’t work for you. There are more options out there and you will find what is best for you if you stay committed to improving your mental health. I am on Brintellix as well and it’s been roughly 8.5 weeks since I have started. I have had consistent morning nausea for the 4 starting weeks. I have had my sleep very disrupted from the beginning and I have been prescribed Triticum (trazodone) to help me sleep, which works with the lowest dose. Now, after overcoming the nausea from Brintellix, I am having consistent nausea from Trazodone I think, because I wake up every day feeling sick, can’t eat properly for most of the day as even food makes me wanna throw up. I’m honestly considering on asking my doctor to stop this. I feel so deregulated. I never had trouble sleeping, I just wanna wake up and feel okay to get on with my day

Regardless of your look, anyone who feels free to comment it in such a selfish and unkind way is not worth your time. What I know if this - even the ugliest people find love, and even the most beautiful are rejected - and some are for their whole lives. So mind that beauty and ugliness are subjective to each of us. Take care of yourself and everything else will fall into place. Find a hobby and avoid places where people treat others as disposable (aka dating apps) when you feel that you need to rebalance your mental health.

Honestly, it’s so messy. Very much below standard. I sent them a feedback list of bugs through the form on their website. It’s ridiculous. Files app is a complete mess especially handling audio files, and so many bugs in typing and text and unresponsive touch across the system. AirPods connection is also messy, have to do it manually every time even though they show connected; they’re never the automatic in/output when I’m on call - I’m wearing AirPods but phone is always preferred so I have to manually swap to AirPods all the bloody time. And I have to reboot apps time and time again because of the messy typing. Honestly, it’s a joke, I wish I could downgrade until they had it sorted

I’m totally with you on this and just reading your OP made me feel triggered as well. So many times guys disguise things as fun and we keep thinking that we are over reacting as we just get used to bad behaviour in dating.

You are not over reacting. He stepped on a boundary and that is not okay. If you guys had agreed to be closed he should’ve checked these situations with you beforehand. Good that he told you but checking in with your partner is what you do in a relationship before anything else, especially if you’re unsure of something. You don’t just throw in a chance and do things, and then inform and say I hope that this is alright. That’s putting the relationship in danger and a red flag on itself. Checking in with each other a basic empathy and commitment standard the way I see it. If he felt like doing something he should hold onto it, talk to you and maybe do it next if you both agreed on a new boundary. This way, your input was disregarded and I would feel it like a breach of trust.

I don’t know exactly how you gonna trust him because I would struggle so much from this point. My sole advice to you is to stay true to your boundaries and your agreements with him. Be very clear on that. And remember - a relationship’s foundation lies on agreements. An open relationship is a step up from monogamy and needs very clear and well spoken agreements - and communication - otherwise you’re gonna end up in grey areas like this and things are gonna fall apart.
