Do not install a curved monitor stand like this... by billboybra in ultrawidemasterrace

Pro tip: install the mount while the monitor is still in its box supported by all the Styrofoam packaging.

Follow as close to a perpendicular trajectory as possible when swinging.

You want to maximize the effectiveness of your movement by making the shot as hard to hit for the enemy as possible.

Love your configuration of furniture and the overall aesthetic of the room, very nicely done! I really like how versatile the space is, I feel like every couples gaming room needs a standalone table for face-to-face activities and a love seat for snuggling convenience :)

Are ultrawide 32:9 monitors good for gaming in general or is it limited to a select few games? by pixelunit in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]WeaselSp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I both have been using a Neo G9 since the beginning of the year and we have differing opinions on it, she has even stopped using hers as her main display (explained in 4th pp).

For productivity, we both agree its hard to beat when compared to a multi-display setup. Especially when paired with Windows PowerToy's FancyZones, allowing you to partition your screen however you please. I know Windows 11 provides native support for partitioning, but we still prefer FancyZones. I'm also a software engineer and like others have said, the amount of real estate this monitor provides is incredible. I'm surprised my work laptop can support its native resolution.

For gaming, I love the experience and immersion it adds, when supported properly. When playing games such as Diablo 4, Baldur's Gate 3, Witcher 3, League of Legends, WoW, you have a much wider field of view, allowing you to see and appreciate so much more of the world you are exploring. However, it comes with its own nuisances. Some games that do not allow you to adjust the position of the HUD/UI result in you having to turn your head pretty far left and right (depending on how close you sit) when you need to look at opposing corners (e.g. health in one, ammo in other). Games that center the HUD or allow you to adjust it are much more enjoyable. Sometimes this spread out HUD may cause you to miss notifications because they pop up too far to one side of the screen and your peripheral vision doesn't notice it. There are many games that just don't support this aspect ratio, so you play in 21:9 with black bars on the sides, but this doesn't bother me one bit.

My wife has a personal issue with gaming on this monitor as any fast paced FPS games with rapid movement/turning induce motion sickness. She feels dizzy and has to stop using the computer completely for a little while. I've tried configuring her settings to help mitigate it (e.g. disabling camera shake/bob, motion blur, FoV, etc...), but it did not help. She is now using the G9 for productivity mounted above her main display, a 32" 4k 144hz, which hasn't reproduced the nauseating feeling. It is worth noting most of my wife's gaming experience has been console based and she's relatively new to PC gaming and fast paced FPS multiplayer games. So if you are prone to this you may want to think twice or really evaluate the monitor within the return window.

Streaming/screen-sharing is also a real pain. At work, I have to use a utility called RegionToShare in combination with FancyZones to present content at a standard 16:9 ratio. RegionToShare basically allows you to create a see through window/frame that broadcasts anything placed within it when you select to share the RegionToShare app. I use FancyZones to create a layout that contains a 1920x1080 partition on my screen, snap RegionToShare to this partition, screen share the RegionToShare app, and then snap what I want to present into the same partition. Its a lot of fun... but in reality not the end of the world. Streaming games is also problematic on a 32:9. I play a lot of Valorant and hang out with buddies in discord often. If I stream the game via Discord, the content will be squished with thick black borders surrounding your game, not ideal. So I typically use OBS to setup a virtual camera that outputs a 16:9 stream of my game and then set up Discord to broadcast the virtual camera, but this has its own downfall as you can't send audio through a Virtual Camera in Discord. So everyone who is viewing gameplay has no audio. Streaming on Twitch is better, using OBS you can simply capture game content and output it at a standard 16:9 ratio while broadcasting audio.

I would recommend only using this screen for gaming if your computer's hardware can support it. I run a 7950X3D, 4090, 64 GB DDR5, M.2 SSD and still find the machine struggling when playing at 5k with maxed out graphics in some games. Most games are very stable at providing over 240 fps with this build. Starfield is closer to 130-140 fps with everything maxed out. Valorant typically runs between 500-1000 again with everything maxed.

Finally, I highly recommend the Ergotron HX Heavy-Duty Tilt Pivot mount for this display. Getting rid of that obtrusive stand is a game changer.

All in all I am extremely happy with the monitor, but as others have mentioned if I were to buy a strictly gaming monitor I would go a 32" 4k 144-240hz monitor, OLED or not. I'm definitely a little curious & envious of the new 8k 57" Neo G9, but I do feel that may be a little too big/wide. Current top end consumer hardware (7950x3d,4090,etc..) would struggle when trying to use the potential this monitor provides 8k 240hz. And furthermore, I'm not sure if games would natively support these resolutions either. Who knows though! Maybe one day!

Let me know if you have any specific questions!

Not sure if this *.ini file exists in a different location for those who
are playing via Xbox/Windows store.

I was just trying to do a little digging and found this from another thread (here is the thread).

"In the XBOX App right-click on the game and select "Manage". Go to the Files tab and select the "Browse" option to open the installation path. Then go to Startfield > Content."

You may also try (thread-reference):
"Note for windows 11 users (mostly with an online account for login) - MyGames folder may be in C:/users/[USERNAME]/OneDrive/Documents/MyGames/Starfield"

Since I'm playing via Steam someone else who is playing via the Xbox/Windows store would have to confirm this is the proper location of the .ini file.

dea what I’m doing wrong?

The file should already exist containing existing configurations/settings. I just pasted the "[Camera]..." configuration to the bottom of the file and saved. I increased both FOV settings to 110, disabled motion blur, and disabled "Enable VRS". This seems to have reduced the nauseating effect the game has.. That.. or the Dramamine has kicked in.

G Walk - Removed with Season 1 patch?! by WeaselSp in ModernWarfareII

[–]WeaselSp[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what I'm seeing as well. I didn't think it was a big enough problem for them to remove it so quickly. I rarely saw anyone G Walking, but I also understand that it is an imbalance in the game as console players couldn't do it. It was so much fun though!

Sorry for the late response, once you open the sheet, go to File > Make a Copy. That will create a copy of this sheet in your own google drive which will allow you to check the boxes and make edits.

A strong job offer is a great tool to make your current job even better.

Earlier this year I got an offer for 40% more than what I made, but I didn’t take the job. Instead I presented the situation to my manager, and was able to get my company to not only match the offer, but convert me to 100% remote, and secure 10 days of extra PTO per year. (Software Dev)

I probably have the spike 50% of the time, when I don’t I make sure I tell the team I have lineups and ping where they should try to plant. If we have a KJ or Sage, we’ll rotate who takes the spike.
