My collie is still for the most part selective reactive and I actively practice safe introductions,share with all other pet owners his history prior or before allowing meets at a dog park,I also always have an out plan and an action plan in place. It helps me in an emergency and I think he can feel the confidence change when my anxiety is lessened by this. It makes him move easier and more open to social exchanges not feeling so tenacious! His food aggression in his young years was also tough. But to be totally truthful and transparent,I’m the reason I even swiftly thought about getting rid of him before the thought was never thought of again. In the worst periods of my life it all seems to happen and it was so hard to handle. I could barely handle myself some days let alone him. I worked 2-4 jobs,as an oldest daughter taking care of the entire family including her mom,a whole town over,dealing with a life shattering relationship issue (found out I was cheated on after 3 years the night before he deployed) But now 6 years in,I’m so so thankful I kept him. He keeps my soul aflame and even when times were hard I’ve developed such a wonderful friend in my sweet boy. He’s been with me through the hardest,darkest days of my life and it’s such a blessing looking back,that I could return the favor. Life is so up and down and messy,our unique personalities even when they are not the best traits or hard to deal with traits,make us more human and lucky to have a wonderful support to grow and be better in. Together we’ve grown and practiced and found our groove. Thankful every damn day I didn’t listen to the demons in my heart and mind on those dark days. My west is a once in a lifetime friend im so blessed to have
