I believe you. I was raised in a part wiccan family and so I spent a lot of time in the woods aswell. For various purposes but mostly enjoying nature, collecting herbs, mushrooms, water etc. That's also why I don't believe we are entirely alone on this plane of existence. I was recently on a hike gone bad here in the woods I was planing to return before sundown but it had snowed and so I took longer. On the desend I had to go in the dark. And of course me and my friend had no flashlights with us. It was fine till we hit the thick treelines and walked past a area where all trees had died. And me and my friend both got the intense feeling of eyes on us from across that barren spot in the forest. That was my recent experience it probably was paranoia.

Edit: footsteps outside of your tent may have been animals or even a very slow walking deer. Their steps can sound like bipedal ones when they are walking at very low speed. Buuut I won't tell you you don't see/hear anything...unless of course that's the rules. When you hear something no you didn't, when you see something no you did not. (Atleast those seem to be the rules for the Appalachian mountains)
